Optimum Design of High-Rise Office Buildings

Janosik, Jan January 1972 (has links)
Page V not included in the thesis. /
This project report includes classification of a design of high-rise buildings. Then the survey of recent optimisation techniques is made. The optimum design of one-way flab, beam and girder slab is presented. Also optimum design of flat plate is presented as both problems are part of overall optimum design of high-rise buildings.

The project report also describes the development of the computer programs for optimum design of one-way slab and flat plate. The behaviour of cost function in vicinity of optimum solution is presented and comparison of conventional versus optimized design method is made.
/ Thesis / Master of Engineering (MEngr)

Optimum Iteration Schemes for the Improved Quasistatic Method

Schafer, Steve 12 1900 (has links)

General theory of nuclear reactor kinetics is discussed, with emphasis on CANDU* reactors. The numerical solution of the group diffusion equations using the IQS+ method is presented. Several important numerical parameters are studied with reference to a one-dimensional slab reactor undergoing a LOC° accident. These parameters are: number of mesh points in the region of solution, frequency of shape calculations, and convergence criteria. * Canada - Deuterium - Uranium + Improved Quasi-Static o Loss of Coolant / Thesis / Master of Engineering (MEngr)

A real-time simulation-based optimisation environment for industrial scheduling

Frantze´n, Marcus January 2013 (has links)
In order to cope with the challenges in industry today, such as changes in product diversity and production volume, manufacturing companies are forced to react more flexibly and swiftly. Furthermore, in order for them to survive in an ever-changing market, they also need to be highly competitive by achieving near optimal efficiency in their operations. Production scheduling is vital to the success of manufacturing systems in industry today, because the near optimal allocation of resources is essential in remaining highly competitive. The overall aim of this study is the advancement of research in manufacturing scheduling through the exploration of more effective approaches to address complex, real-world manufacturing flow shop problems. The methodology used in the thesis is in essence a combination of systems engineering, algorithmic design and empirical experiments using real-world scenarios and data. Particularly, it proposes a new, web services-based, industrial scheduling system framework, called OPTIMISE Scheduling System (OSS), for solving real-world complex scheduling problems. OSS, as implemented on top of a generic web services-based simulation-based optimisation (SBO) platform called OPTIMISE, can support near optimal and real-time production scheduling in a distributed and parallel computing environment. Discrete-event simulation (DES) is used to represent and flexibly cope with complex scheduling problems without making unrealistic assumptions which are the major limitations of existing scheduling methods proposed in the literature. At the same time, the research has gone beyond existing studies of simulation-based scheduling applications, because the OSS has been implemented in a real-world industrial environment at an automotive manufacturer, so that qualitative evaluations and quantitative comparisons of scheduling methods and algorithms can be made with the same framework. Furthermore, in order to be able to adapt to and handle many different types of real-world scheduling problems, a new hybrid meta-heuristic scheduling algorithm that combines priority dispatching rules and genetic encoding is proposed. This combination is demonstrated to be able to handle a wider range of problems or a current scheduling problem that may change over time, due to the flexibility requirements in the real-world. The novel hybrid genetic representation has been demonstrated effective through the evaluation in the real-world scheduling problem using real-world data.

The changing importance of OCA arguments in the national discussions about euro accession in the new EU member-states of Central and Eastern Europe in times of crisis

Slezák, Milan January 2013 (has links)
The Eurozone has been the object of much controversy recently. Both on the member-state and on the EU level, policies are being made to cope with the many problems of the Eurozone. In this paper we state that academic economics is often unable to give the right advice for policymakers in the case of the Eurozone crisis, because this is a new situation where academics are disagreeing fundamentally about the best remedy for the problem. We come to this conclusion by first showing how one of the most prominent theories about monetary unions (the Optimum Currency Area theory) is unable to give any good advice to policymakers. After that we make a country-comparitive study between the ten new EU members in Central and Eastern Europe that joined in 2004 and 2007, which shows us that these countries respond fundamentally different on the Eurocrisis and that these reactions are more based on political and public support and national economic performance than on formal academic economics.

In order to protect the biodiversity and the depleted marine resources, we should reserve them for future generations. Therefore, try to introduce the concept of Marine Protected Areas ( MPAs) which are based on ecosystem. It is divided into different kinds of protected areas to reserve the resources and protect the biodiversity and the completeness of natural habitats. MPAs offer the foundation of natural Sustainable Development. According to this research, and use the theory of resource economics basis to discuss the effective of MPAs. Then, it continued to discuss the effective of MPAs which is under negative uncertainty. According to the evidence of results, MPAs indeed can reap the benefit of our ecological at the same time , it also can maintain the effectiveness of MPAs.

Optimalizace návrhu těžeb vedoucí k těžební vyrovnanosti lesního majetku

Machačík, Michal January 2014 (has links)
The aim of the thesis was to optimize the total cut of the private property of B. F. P., Lesy a statky Tomáše Bati, spol. s. r. o. leading to harvest balance within a period of next 30 years. Two different harvest models as well as the model of shortening the rotation period of spruce were included in the calculations for the expectant total cuts. All these three models were compared, with the optimal result of not carrying out the whole total cut according to the legal options. If the total allowable cuts, which arise from the current age composition of the property, were fully used, the significant decrease in harvest would follow and keep on decreasing as early as the second decade. Shortening the rotation period of spruce would make the situation even worse.
