The literacy event horizon: Examining orality and literacy in Leslie Marmon Silko's CeremonyDavis, Andréa Diane 01 January 2005 (has links)
Applies James Gee's concept of Discourses to illustrate how literacy and orality thematically constitute hybrid identity in Silko's novel Ceremony. Then, applies Wallace Chafe's linguistic framework of integration and involvement showing that the novel is a linguistic hybrid, not just a text that thematically elevates hybridity. Unlike other Native American authors who create half-breed characters merely as bridges between two cultures, Silko creates her character Tayo as an embodiment of an emergent hybrid culture.

January 2018 (has links)
In this sense, we intend to identify, describe and analyze some phonological-phonetic phenomena that emerge in the essays of elementary school students, more specifically of 6th grade students from three public schools of Araraquara / São Paulo. For the collection of the essays, a narration proposal appropriate was created to School series of the research participants and a simple social profile questionnaire was applied to informants. The phenomena investigated are orthographic deviations of phonologicalphonological nature, especially those that originate from speech habits and that arise in the writing. The orthographic deviations found were separated into 02 types, (i) related to the very arbitrary nature of the system of spelling conventions and (ii) those resulting from the transposition of speech habits into writing. In order to explain the operation of the phenomena researched, we follow the enumerated and discussed by Cagliari (2002), Bortoni-Ricardo (2005), Seara, Nunes and Lazzarotto-Volcano (2011) and Mikaela-Roberto (2016). After the collection and diagnosis of deviation we surveyed the teachers' attitudes through linguistic attitudes to verify teachers' subjective reactions to students' written product...
Abstract: The purpose of this master thesis is to understand the history, orality and memory, as well as to its appropriateness to the short story genre in A cidade e a infância by the Angolan writer, José Luandino Vieira (2007). In this sense, there will be a clarification between Luandino Literature and Angolan culture, including short narratives and social world elements of Luanda Mosques, where Luandino lived since he was a child, when he arrived from Portugal. This work clearly shows the importance of orality as ancestors registers and the interrupted childhood dreams with Strong and striking metaphors beyond. The collection presents the key point of rupture and aesthetic change that has initiated by Laudino Vieira Literature, presenting short stories that reveal feelings and situatiations that were hidden such as poverty, exploitation, misery, segregation, colonial imposition and prejudice. These elements were the driving force behind the Angolan literary revolution, and it ensured denunciations and dialogues between literature and history, highlighting social problems and reverting Angolan culture that was still obscure. These elements will be analysed and presented in a triad form society/culture/literature, wich proceeds, in a social terms, the political imposition of the colonizers, in the cultural plane, the rescue and resistance in preserving the ancestry values, and in the literary plane, the confirmation of its proper literature system with the introduction of the ... / Mestre

Stylizace mluvenosti v současné české próze jako překladatelský problém pro jazykovou kombinaci čeština-němčina / Stylization of orality in contemporary Czech prose as a translation problem for the language pair Czech-GermanKreisel, Mirjam Elisabeth January 2021 (has links)
This thesis examines the translation of stylization of orality in the context of linguistics, the development of language and literature as well as translation theory. Three contemporary Czech novels and their translations are analyzed in regard to their oral features. The statistical analysis applies selected elements, that are characterized in specialized literature as typical for orality. It explores their incidence using a corpus analysis method. As concerns the source texts, the results show differences regarding the levels of language and groups of lexemes, which indicates an individual stylization. This is, to a lesser extent, true of the target texts as well, notwithstanding the fact that they show a greater uniformity overall. A contrastive comparison leads to the conclusion, that oral features with more commonality in Czech tend to be neutralized to a greater extent. A functional analysis of orality is also carried out. Its aim is to characterize the impression (Wirkung) of orality in a given passage and distinguish between the so called adapted and mimetic kinds of orality. The analysis follows its own model and points to, amongst other things, a special role of Common Czech (obecná čeština) and of particles as well as adverbs devoid of meaning in German. It becomes clear, that the...

Previous issue date: 2018-08-28 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / This study is linked to the line of text and speech research in the oral and written modalities of the program of post-graduate studies in the Portuguese language of the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, and has as its theme The presence of orality in texts produced by young and adult education students (EJA). The general objective of this study is broadening the literacy of EJA students as an approaching of orality and writing as social and discursive practices. The specific objectives are 1) to identify and analyze the informal variant explained by the oral marks present in dissertations texts produced by EJA students; 2) to reflect on the implications of informal variant through these marks in the development of the communicative competence of the pupils. In order to achieve these objectives, we adopted the theoretical assumptions of Sociolinguistics (ANTUNES, 2003; 2016; BAGNO, 2002; BORTONI-RICARDO, 2004; 2005; 2006 PRETI, 2004; 2006) and textual linguistics (FAVERO, 2008; FAVERO KOCH, 2009; FAVERO ANDRADE AQUINO, 2012; MARCUSCHI, 1997; 2003; 2004; 2007; 2008; 2015). The corpus consists of eight essays produced by EJA students based on the essay proposal of UNESP of 2003. The research has allowed us to verify that the students surveyed do not have the perception that the writing varies less than the speech.
