Mandala, Venkata Bhaskar Reddy, Chandra, Marepalli Sharat January 2012 (has links)
Context: Software industry is looking for new methods and opportunities to reduce the project management problems and operational costs. Cloud Computing concept is providing answers to these problems. Cloud Computing is made possible with the availability of high internet bandwidth. Cloud Computing is providing wide range of various services to varied customer base. Cloud Computing has some key elements such as on-demand services, large pool of configurable computing resources and minimal management effort to the users. The software organizations are looking for cloud benefits to address the project management problems. Objectives: The study is to identify various cloud benefits for addressing project management problems faced by software industry. The study is also investigates various challenges or problems faced by the organizations while using cloud computing environment. The solutions or suggestions to overcome these identified cloud challenges are also produced in this study. Cloud benefits across different cloud types also found during this study. Methods: Systematic literature review is conducted across eight databases to find different cloud benefits and challenges for the organizations to address the project management problems. Interview study is conducted across industrial experts working in cloud computing environment. Interview study is to check the status of cloud benefits and challenges found through systematic literature review and find new additions. The solutions and suggestions are also found to address the cloud challenges through both methodologies. Results: A total of 21 cloud benefits and 12 challenges found across 43 primary studies through systematic literature review. 26 cloud benefits and 14 cloud challenges found through interview study among 7 cloud computing industry experts. 6 cloud benefits and 2 cloud challenges found through this study are not available in existing literature. Cloud benefits across different types are also discussed in this study. Conclusion: This study identifies various cloud benefits and cloud challenges for organizations to address project management problems. Cloud utilizing organization has to differentiate its project management problems for identifying cloud type. Cloud utilizing organization has to take care of the challenges at the time of writing Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with the help of third party organization.

Modeling The Performance Of International Construction Joint Ventures

Ozorhon, Beliz 01 October 2007 (has links) (PDF)
International joint ventures (IJVs) have become popular because of their importance as a strategic alternative in global competition. Construction companies consider IJVs as a vehicle to enter new markets and exploit business opportunities. Being a special type of strategic alliance, IJVs offer partnering companies to combine the distinctive competencies and the complementary resources. Despite the benefits associated with IJVs, such entities are very difficult to manage mainly due to their inherent complexity, involving a mixture of different cultures, managerial systems, philosophies, and attitudes. As a result of these difficulties, the failure rate of IJVs is generally high. Therefore, measurement of the performance of IJVs has been an important research topic for a few decades. However there is no consensus on an appropriate definition of the indicators and determinants of IJV performance in construction. In this study, a framework is proposed to model the IJV performance in construction industry. A multi-dimensional performance measure is developed and determinants influencing the level of performance are defined. In this context, a questionnaire survey was administered to Turkish construction companies that have established IJVs with foreign partners. The validity of the proposed drivers and measures of performance is investigated and relationships between them are analyzed using the structural equation modeling technique. The results point out the significance of the inter-partner fit and the quality of partner relations for a successful IJV operation. The findings of the study also suggest that project-related factors have a moderate influence on IJV performance. In a properly designed IJV structure, partners with compatible skills, resources, and cultures are found to maintain good relations and are expected to achieve greater IJV success.

Lapointe, Jonathan 07 1900 (has links)
The impact of cancer care is a major public health issue, mainly because of both its major health and economic impacts. The use of information technologies (IT) is seen as a solution that can contribute to reduce the load associated with cancer. Despite this, there are only few experiments evaluating their use in the cancer care. The purpose of this memoir is to find ways how IT can be used to improve this situation and describe what strategies can help them succeed. To do so, this memoir presents two articles each pursuing a goal related to that global objective. The first article aims to gather existing knowledge on how the use of IT may provide better coordination of cancer care. It presents the results of a literature review that built a typology of six uses in which IT can be used to provide better care coordination. It also offers six recommendations to insure the success of their design and their implementation. The two most important ones are rigorous planning and strong intervention design. The second article reports and analyse the perception of health professionals in relation to the use of mobile technologies in a cancer care setting. It presents data gathered from 10 interviews conducted a the cancer center (France). Their analysis shows that most of them have a positive attitude towards the use of IT in cancer care. It also denotes some of the fears associated with the adverse impacts it may bring. The results highlights the importance of considering organizational issues for the implementation of sucessful interventions. These two studies show that there are many similarities and few differences between the usages and recommendations from the literature and the perceptions of the professionnals working in a specialized cancer care center.
