Sánchez, Natalia Paola 26 February 2015 (has links)
The Chos Malal fold-thrust belt is located in northwestern Neuquén province and includes more than 4500 meters of sediments that belong to the Neuquén Basin and were deformed during the Andean orogeny. Based in detailed field work, we reconstruct the geometry of the structures along four E-O profiles with two different sectors: one with the basement participation in the deformation and the other with the deformation in the sedimentary cover. The Cordillera del Viento is a huge basement wedge that involves paleozoics rocks and the Lotena and Cuyo Groups, and reach the beds of Auquilco Formation, which represents the first significant detachment level in the cover. This detachment, localized on a more deep level than those proposed by other authors, is strongly suggested by the Alamito Backthrust, which overthrusts part of the Tordillo Formation over the Vaca Muerta Formation. From the interpretation of seismic lines two more wedges were recognized in depth for the first section, this is agreement with the higher elevations in this sector, and an additional wedge in the three remaining sections. The restitution of the structures developed in the sedimentary cover allowed us to calculate of 15.7 km (28.1%), 15.7 km (28.31), 14.85 km (27%) y 14.12 km (26.23%) of shortening respectively for each of the sections. The deformation in the area have been related to compressive event during Late Cretaceous, but also other important pulse occurred during the Miocene, as evidenced by the analysis of fission tracks in apatites. Keywords: Andean Orogen, thin and thick deformation, kinematic evolution, Cordillera del Viento, fission tracks in apatites

This work presents the geologic, petrological, and geochronological data of Morrinhos Granite belonging to Pensamiento Intrusive Suite, located in the areas of Paraguá Terrain, southwestern portion of the Amazonian Craton. Geological mapping allowed the identification of two facies in Morrinhos Granite, which are: Hornblende-biotite granodiorite e Biotite monzogranite, the first of which predominates in areal extent. The first facies is characterized by leucocratic rocks, light gray, consisting of quartz, plagioclase, alkali feldspar, biotite and hornblende, unlike facies Biotite monzogranite, that is consisting of pinkish gray leucocratic rocks, with biotite as the only mafic essential. Both metamorphosed at greenschist facies. Chemically, these rock types characterize an acid sequence formed by sub alkaline magmatism, alkali-calcic metaluminous to slightly peraluminous type with some features A-type granites as standard evolved through fractional crystallization mechanisms. Structural data show two phases of deformation represented by the schistosity (S1) and cleavage crenulation (S2) with preferential attitude, respectively, 220 /80 and 350/85, both probably related to San Ignácio Orogeny. Geochronological determination obtained by the U-Pb (SHRIMP) and isotope geochemistry (Sm-Nd) of these rocks indicate, respectively, crystallization age 1350 ± 12 Ma, TDM around 1.77 Ga and negative value for εNd(1.35) of -2.57.The results obtained suggest that the Morrinhos Granite has been generated in a continental magmatic arc during the post colisional stage of San Ignacio Orogeny and allow to recognizes as an extension of Pensamiento Intrusive Suite.
