Different theoretical theorists were considered, among them Alfonso Berardinelli, Walter Benjamin and Gaston Bachelard. The specific objective is to analyze the manner of representation of the images of big cities in Verhaeren?s poetry. / Este trabalho tem como objetivo geral analisar a poesia moderna das grandes metr?poles no livro Cidades tentaculares (Les villes tentaculaires, 1895), de Emile Verhaeren, partindo da compara??o com outros poetas que abordaram essa tem?tica, como Charles Baudelaire e Walt Whitman. Foram consideradas teorias de diferentes autores, especialmente Alfonso Berardinelli, Walter Benjamin e Gaston Bachelard. O objetivo espec?fico ? analisar o modo de representa??o das imagens das grandes cidades na poesia de Verhaeren.
