The objective of the work refered to the understanding of the structure and standard of familiar functioning presented by such families which possess a model based on the Japanese culture, searching to perceive how such aspects influence in the relation established among grandmothers-fathers-grandsons. Four interviews with grandmothers and grandsons have been carried through, using a qualitative methodologial referential in a systemic familiar approach and the results have pointed to the importance of the beliefs, affective standards, authority, loyalty and delineation of the familiar borders for the confrontation of the situation of separateness of the group caused by the migration of some of its members / Este trabalho refere-se a uma pesquisa realizada com famílias de dekasseguis (trabalhadores brasileiros que migram para o Japão) nas quais os avós permanecem no Brasil com a responsabilidade da educação dos netos. O objetivo do trabalho referiu-se à compreensão da estrutura e padrão de funcionamento familiar apresentado por tais famílias que possuem um modelo baseado na cultura japonesa, buscando perceber como tais aspectos influenciam na relação estabelecida entre avós-pais-netos. Foram realizadas quatro entrevistas com avós e netos, utilizando um referencial metodológico qualitativo numa abordagem familiar sistêmica e os resultados apontaram para a importância das crenças, dos padrões afetivos, da autoridade, da lealdade e do delineamento das fronteiras familiares para o enfrentamento da situação de separação do grupo ocasionada pela migração de alguns de seus membros
