A presente tese parte do reconhecimento de que a violência tem desafiado, insistentemente, nossas instituições sociais contemporâneas. E assim a violência seria uma das características que marca as relações sociais na atualidade. Também seriam próprias do tempo atual mudanças no âmbito da família e do trabalho o que deixaria, sobretudo os jovens, com um sentimento de que suas vidas estariam em uma situação “labiríntica”: sem referências de como e para onde seguir suas trajetórias. Por estas razões, o estudo busca discutir a capacidade de uma instituição, como a escolar, em lidar com os contornos assumidos pelos processos de socialização e de integração social dos jovens no contexto das sociedades atuais, indagando sobre as formas e os significados dos ajustes dessa instituição à nova realidade que se nos apresenta. Neste sentido, constata-se que o volume da capital social desta organização escolar (parcerias e colaborações estabelecidas pelas escolas) tende a interferir favoravelmente na execução de programas e ações de prevenção à violência na escola. Isso é demonstrado pelo estudo da implementação do “Programa Escola Aberta para a Cidadania” (PEAC) em escolas públicas estaduais situadas na Região Metropolitana de Porto Alegre. / This thesis starts from the recognition that violence has challenged our contemporary social institutions insistently. Changes within the family and work are also typical of the present time and these would make people, mainly the youth, feel as if they were inside a labyrinth: without any points of reference on how to lead their lives. For these reasons, the study seeks to discuss the ability of an institution, like school, in dealing with the outlines assumed by processes of socialization and social integration of young people in the context of contemporary societies, by inquiring about the ways and the meanings of the adjustments of such institution to the new reality presented to us. In this regard, it is noted that the volume of social capital of this school organization (partnerships and collaborations established by schools) tends to interfere in favor of implementation of programs and actions to prevent violence at school.
