Em outras palavras, nossa pesquisa procurou estudar o exercício do poder religioso da Igreja Católica, na vila de Passa-Quatro/MG, como modo de discutir os limites deste poder, e para tanto, precisamos estudar o Ultramontanismo, em Minas Gerais, bem como a Questão Religiosa e a Carta Pastoral Coletiva de 1890. ________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This present work had as the objective to comprehend the secularization of marriage from the analysis of books of marital exemption of Passa Quatro/MG, in the period of 1890 (Decree n. 119-A) to 1916 (Civil Code), looking for a reflexion about the reaction of Catholic Church, that played a role in the transformations undertaken by the newly proclaimed Republic, in 1889. In other words, our research sought to study the execise of the Catholic Church’s religious power, in Passa Quatro/MG village, as a way of discussing the limits of this power, and, for doing so, we need to study the ultramontanism, at Minas Gerais, as well as the Religious Issue and the Collective Pastoral Letter of 1890.
