Os eixos condutores de investigação foram a fundamentação teórica e pesquisa de campo através da utilização de uma entrevista com instrumental semi-estruturado direcionado aos pais que adentraram com a ação de Negatória de Paternidade nas Varas de Família e Sucessões na comarca de Uberlândia-MG, fórum Abelardo Penna e que foram encaminhadas ao setor de Serviço Social, nos anos de 2010 a 2013. O principal objetivo foi identificar se a paternidade socioafetiva deve ser vista com os mesmos princípios da paternidade biológica. Para maior entendimento do tema abordado, o referencial teórico permeou os primórdios da civilização até os dias atuais, procurando entender o processo de construção da família e formação das sociedades, perpassando pelos diversos modelos familiares que se construíram ao longo da história. O universo pesquisado foi de 6 indivíduos que perpetraram ação de Negatória de Paternidade nas Varas de Família da Comarca de Uberlândia-MG. Também realizamos, por amostragem, a pesquisa documental de 16 processos que tramitaram nas respectivas Varas de Família e Sucessões e que foram direcionados ao Setor de Serviço Social, processos que foram arquivados, o que nos possibilitou a visualização de todo o processo assim como o resultado, isto é se o pedido de Negatória foi deferido ou indeferido pelo juiz da Vara.
