Syftet med studien var att beskriva hur sjukvårdsansvariga styrmän ser på trygghet och säkerhet vid vårdande av sjuk eller skadad besättningsmedlem eller passagerare ombord på svenskflaggade fartyg. Metodvalet utgjordes av semistrukturerade intervjuer i studien där varje intervju analyserades sedan enligt en kvalitativ metod. Resultatet visar på att sjukvårdsansvariga styrmän generellt känner att de som individer påverkar patientsäkerhetskulturen ombord i både positiv och negativ bemärkelse som till exempel att de känner att den utbildning som finns idag inte räcker till. Resultatet visar även att styrmän önskar sig mer utbildning inom området, framförallt i sådant som blir mer och mer vanliga folksjukdomar som till exempel stroke. Det visar även kulturella skillnader i omvårdnad och den generella synen på sjukvård, som till exempel synen på läkemedel, ombord på fartyg med mångkulturella besättningar och att detta påverkar patientsäkerheten ombord / The study was conducted to see how officers responsible for the medical care onboard looks at the safety culture and the safety climate onboard ships sailing the Swedish flag. The study was done by a semi structure interview, each interview was analyzed according to a qualitative method. The result shows that the medical responsible officers generally feel that they personally affect patient safety culture onboard both positive and negative for example that the officers feel that the education provide for them today is not enough. The result shows that officers wish for more education, especially in areas that has become national diseases. It also shows on cultural difference in both nursing and how we look at medical care, for example how we look at medicine, overall onboard ships with multicultural crew and how this can affect the safety of the patient onboard.
