An ecology of things/thinking is a textual work, a document of my thinking and the things Ihave created during my master studies in fine arts at Konstfack. As the title and word suggests‘ecology’, it is a material practice. I have called it a choreographic step entering thiseducation. With several motives and desires and with a ten-year background in dance andchoreography, the main thread has been to look into the object and installation work I havebeen doing. in which objects, clothes and larger sculptures have been ways for me tounderstand choreography not only entangled in dance but in everything. Concepts/words likehospitality, temporality and context are reoccurring topics of my inquiries, as I understand thehuman with great plastic qualities and potential. In my work I always need to consider thecontext, pre-conditions and conditions for a dance to emerge.I see the body as both reading and writing machine, we cannot only producetext, dance and objects, but we also read and write the movement in between things, the largerchoreography and the interwoven parts. Doing dance and choreography, my artistic practiceblends these notions in both making objects or exhibitions, dancing for others or myself,writing poetry and curating events. For my master studies I needed to leave the morespectacle-like parts of dance and performance out of my palette of expressions. I wanted to letthe objects and installation work have more agency, still working with choreography. Thesituation/context – Konstfack became my field of study and from where I could speak/createfrom.

Educed Play: An Investigation of Synergy and Improvisation

abstract: Educed Play is a performance installation that investigates spontaneity and the invisible communication that can exist in improvisation and collaborative play. The work unites the mediums of dance, drawing, music, and video through improvisational performances. The multimedia installation entitled Educed Play was presented in the fall of 2012. Inspiration came from the idea of relics created by ephemeral interactions, using improvisation as a means to performance, and working within a genuine collaboration. PSEUDOLOGY: LYING IN ART AND CULTURE

This dissertation draws upon Western literature in critical theory, aesthetics, art theory, and art history to explore how lying can foster aesthetic experience and the sociopolitical effects of this experience. It nominates the idea of pseudology—lying as an art—and outlines its distinguishing features from the dawn of postmodernism to contemporary practices. This study demonstrates an analysis of lying premised on an understanding of aesthetics as caught up in the wider issues of public pedagogy and everyday politics. Taking as case studies specific works of Marcel Duchamp, Robert Rauschenberg, VALIE EXPORT, and Carol Duncan, this dissertation argues for the narrative framing of artwork as paramount for its reception. As well, by examining the artistic mystifications of Mierle Laderman Ukeles, Guillermo Gómez-Peña, Coco Fusco, Joshua Schwebel, and Iris Häussler, this dissertation analyzes the use of pseudology in institutional critique. The study finds that perfidious practices can point to the importance of the relational boundary between what is real/unreal, highlight the social construction of this boundary’s aesthetic aspects, and reveal the ways in which each of us are active in the construction of a shared reality. Ultimately, our active framing of everyday life and the affective nature of our construction of a shared reality has been problematized by a contemporary prevalence of lying in the realms of public culture and politics. Pseudology reveals the power of narrative framing. The pseudological artworks discussed here expose, as models for the political aesthetic of lying, the need to debate the very tenets of reality constantly and continually—an essential civic action in the ethical, communal relationships of a democracy. / Thesis / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) / An analysis of the use of lying as an artistic technique.
