In recent years, the ecosystem of performing arts in Taiwan showed a prosperous condition. Not only the quantity of performing art organizations increased rapidly¡Abut also the quality of performing arts raised which shown by the diversified works made public and the high degree evaluations from overseas come along with the performance of their works. It indicates the prosperous creative dint of Taiwan performing artists and the international level of their arts. And it also emerged the active attempt of the oversea market. To promote the ability in international competition by going with the tide of the application of culture creativity industry, Taiwanese authority also list the industry of culture creativity as one of the administrative issues. And also, treat performing arts as one of the core industries of culture and art. The performing arts considered as sustaining by the dependence on resources of government become the focus of public attentions by a new image which differs from the past. The subjects about the industrialization of performing arts, positions of the performing art industry and the management of performing arts industries mentioned and discussed over and over again. Cloud Gate Dance Theatre is the research corpus in the thesis. This research exam the ¡§Cloud Gate Dance Theatre¡¨ through the " Value chain " theory raised by master Porter to find out the topology of its existing organization which formed as their own need .Then, also I analyze the ¡§Valuable activities¡¨ and the connections between in order to adjust each single value activity to optimize the ability of accomplishing the management strategy . This can raise the competition ability in its industry and create the advantages for lasting management. I expect the result of my research can provide a reference example of the best strategy suiting the performing art organizations which are still looking for or fixing the management strategy.

A Study on Co-marketing Alliances Model of Business Companies and 2009 "Marketing Platform of Performing Arts" in Kaohsiung

As Taiwanese performing arts environment changes, some performing arts groups begin to co-operate with business companies and share marketing resources aggressively. On the other hand, since National Culture and Arts Foundation has launched Performing Arts Marketing Platform project in 2006, which has promoted several platforms to co-market with business companies and to gain benefits. However, this business model has not been developed throughly. The purposes of this study are to explore the theories of co-marketing alliances; to understand the influence of the marketing platforms during co-marketing alliances as arts intermediaries; to compare four cases of co-marketing alliances; to modify the co-marketing alliances models and to conclude some suggestions for business companies and Performing Arts Marketing Platforms to improve their cooperation. This study is based on four co-marketing alliances case studies, with observation and in-deep interviews to collect research data. The study concludes that except marketing concern and brand awareness, social responsibility, which helps performing arts organizations to gain more trusts from business companies, becomes another important motivation to form alliances. These motivations affect business companies for choosing their partners, managing the alliances, and evaluating the results. Furthermore, ¡§complementary possibilities¡¨ and ¡§alliance promoters¡¨ are two advantages for Performing Arts Marketing Platforms to built relationships with business companies. Since customers¡¦ cognitions and attitude are not easy to be evaluated, business companies can only measure the outcomes of the alliances through number of consumers, advertisement impression, overall revenue and return questionnaires, which are also difficult to distinguish from normal situations. Therefore, most of the business companies prefer to evaluate the alliance by managers¡¦ subjective judgments. In order to establish a steady alliance, a business company has to familiar with the diversity of performing arts and alternative alliance models beforehand. A Performing Arts Marketing Platform has to consider the needs of business companies, performing arts organizations and itself. The study also suggests a Performing Arts Marketing Platform should increase its advantages and emphasize equal partnerships. It can connect the resource from all the performing arts organizations it helps, and enhance alliance promoter¡¦s professional ability.

The Relationships between Performing Arts and Functions of the Cultural Centers in the Seven Cities/Counties of Southern Taiwan

The Municipal cultural center plays the major role for culture promotion in every city/county in Taiwan. It has great influence on performing arts industry in the past 20 years. Facing the environment change, a municipal cultural center should know how to adjust its functions to meet the needs of the theater in the future. The researcher studied the cultural centers in the seven cities/counties of southern Taiwan before of the merger of 2011, analyzed the development of performing arts, arts activities, audience participation, and the utilization of these cultural centers. The staffs of seven cultural centers, fourteen performing arts groups, and four experts¡¦ opinions are asked in order to know the strength and weakness of cultural center. To accomplish these purposes, the researcher applied the case study method of qualitative research in this study. The study also adopted questionnaire survey and interview to collect data. On the part of the cultural centers, it showed that: 1. Cultural centers usually meet the demands of performing arts groups and provide venue. 2. Cultural centers make their own application schedules, twice a year. 3. Most of the cultural centers have middle-sized theaters. 4. The renting cost of the venue depends on each center. 5. The performances of the cultural centers usually come from domestic groups. The programs directly sponsored by the cultural centers are rare. On the part of performing arts groups, most of them are satisfied with the assistance of the cultural centers. However, they still raise some issues which cultural centers should improve, such as the application schedule, the usage time of the venue, the venues staffs¡¦ collaboration, the provision and improvement of the theaters¡¦ equipments, promotion method and higher subsidy. The study concluded that the cultural centers should adjust their policies, redefine their positions, raise the budget, cultivate the professional talent of the workers, develop self-characteristic, cooperate with other centers, improve the quality of programs, give clear channel of the information, enhance the relationships with the communities and develop the audience.

Culture and arts can be recognized as a major heritage of a country. Globalization tendency causes rapid exchanges between different cultures through innovated information technology. Culture and arts, therefore, becomes one of the best country- and city-marketing tools. Increasing cultural and arts activities also provide people living in this age extra options for nutrition of their body, mind and spirit. At the same time, it may create more working opportunities for professional arts workers and arts students. Many successful Taiwanese performing arts troupes are continuously performing various and diverse works on worldwide stages. They realize that performing arts workers need a mature working environment and also performing arts troupes need a government, which gives a high attention to the development of cultural and arts education. Despite of being highly dependant on policy and environmental changes, performing arts companies can endeavor to make organizational changes and variegate their productions. So that performing arts companies may develop a self-support arts environment for an eternal living. This research aims to discuss the strategy of developing an industrialized performing arts industry in Kaohsiung. As a performing artist, I recall my experiences and observations and find that there are many restrictions to the management and development of performing arts companies in Taiwan. To receive an effective practice for the industrialization of performing arts, I will use two successful case studies ¡V¡§Cloud-Gate Dance Theater of Taiwan¡¨ and ¡§Singapore Dance Theatre¡¨- and reflect their successful stories to ¡§Kaohsiung City Ballet.¡¨ In Chapter one, I will introduce the motivation and purpose of this research, applied methodology and research flow. Chapter two is Literature Review. In Chapter three of Case Study, I will focus on analyzing characteristics and managing strategies of Cloud-Gate Dance Theater of Taiwan¡¨ and ¡§Singapore Dance Theatre.¡¨ In Chapter four, according to the analyzing results in Chapter three, I will make an industrializing strategy for ¡§Kaohsiung City Ballet.¡¨ The plan will be issued from a complete study of developing history, organizational structure, SWOT analysis and industrialization plan. Chapter five will include a conclusion and recommendation.

Revolution of Reinvention: A Self Study on Recording and Entrepreneurial Skills in Modern Music Performing

abstract: A common concern among musical performers in today'’s musical market pertains to their capacity to adapt to the constantly changing climate of the music business. This document focuses on one aspect of the development of a sustainable, entrepreneurship skill set: the production of a recording. While producing the recording Chocolates, the author examined and documented the multiplicity of skills encompassed with a recording project. The first part of the document includes a discussion of various aspects of the recording project, Chocolates, through an entrepreneurial lens, and an evaluation of the skill sets acquired through the recording process. Additionally, the inspiration and relevance behind the recording project and the process of collaboration between the two composers from whom I commissioned new compositions, Noah Taylor and James Grant, and myself is considered. Finally, I describe the recording and editing processes, including the planning involved within each process, how I achieved the final product, and the entrepreneurial skills involved. The second portion of this document examines a broad range of applications of entrepreneurship, marketing, and career management skills not only within the confines of this particular project, but also in relation to the overall sustainability of a twenty-–first century music-–performing career. / Dissertation/Thesis / D.M.A. Music 2013
