Etude de la surface et de la subsurface de Mars par sondage radar. Analyse des données MRO/Sharad / Study of the Surface and Subsurface of Mars by radar sounding (SHARAD/MARSIS)

Le radar sondeur Sharad (NASA/ASI) prospecte actuellement la surface et le sous-sol de Mars àune fréquence de 20 ±5 MHz depuis une orbite polaire basse (Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter).L'instrument a pour but de contraindre la composition du sol et de détecter, puis d'interpréter, desinterfaces enfouies afin de restituer le contexte géologique martien à l'échelle régionale. Ce travail dethèse se propose de contribuer à ces objectifs en se focalisant principalement sur l'étude de terrainsglaciaires et péri-glaciaires Martien.Dans un premier temps, par une méthode d'inversion impliquant la reconstruction d'un sousbassementrocheux par interpolation, nous obtenons les paramètres diélectriques représentatifs duvolume de glace d'eau constituant la calotte polaire Nord, Planum Boreum. Nous en déduisons un tauxde pureté du matériel glaciaire > 95 %. Nous fournissons une carte de l'épaisseur des dépôts qui vérifieun volume de glace de 1,14106 km3.Dans une deuxième étude, en confrontant les transects Sharad à des données topographiques etd'imagerie visible, nous élaborons un profil morphologique et stratigraphique complet d'escarpementsglaciaires présents dans la région d'Ultimi Lobe, Planum Australe. Nous appelons ces escarpements"Laps" (large and assymetric polar scarps). La similarité avec des failles listriques associées à desanticlinaux de roll-over nous amène à proposer l'hypothèse de macro-ruptures mécaniques d'une glacesous contrainte extensive et d'un mouvement subséquent par glissement basal.Puis, nous nous intéressons à la réflectivité radar de la surface dont l'amplitude dépend de larugosité et de la permittivité du sol. Nous élaborons une méthode nous permettant de construire unecarte globale de la réflectivité. Afin de séparer les paramètres physiques qui constituent ce signal, nousproposons des méthodes statistiques simples, inspirés du SAR (radar à synthèse d'ouverture) terrestre,complétées par l'élaboration de modèles de rétrodiffusion de surface à incidence normale. Nousmontrons des résultats de cette approche et leur adéquation avec les modèles théoriques. Enfin, nousmettons en évidence une variation temporelle de la réflectivité aux pôles que nous attribuons à laprésence des condensats saisonniers de CO2. Notre méthode d'analyse statistique de la réflectivité,associée à un modèle de rétrodiffusion à trois couches, nous permet d'évaluer la variation d'épaisseurdes condensats dans des régions à très hautes latitudes (80°-85°). / This thesis presents several geophysical studies using the Sharad radar sounder dataset(NASA/ASI). Sharad is exploring the surface and subsurface of Mars with a frequency of 20  5 MHzfrom a low polar orbit. The mission goals are to constrain the soil composition and to detect someburied structures in order to interpret the Martian geological context at a regional scale.First, the radar signal has been analyzed over the North polar deposits to retrieve the dielectricproperties of the bulk ice. We deduce a purity rate of the ice > 95%. This study required thereconstruction of the bedrock by interpolating the surrounding topography. From this, we provide amap of the deposits thickness that agreed with a volume of ice of 1.14  106 km3.In a second study, we compare the Sharad cross-sections to surface topography and opticalimages in order to develop a complete morphologic and stratigraphic description of polar scarps in theregion of Ultimi Lobe, Planum Boreum. This description is similar to listric faults associated with rolloveranticlines. It leads us to propose a new formation process hypothesis implying a macromechanicalfailure of the ice under stress and a subsequent basal sliding.Then we studied the surface radar reflectivity whose magnitude depends on the roughness andpermittivity of the soil. We develop a method to build up a global map of the reflectivity. To separatethe physical parameters contributing to the signal, we propose a simple statistical method associated tosurface backscattering models at normal incidence. We show that the vertical roughness can bederived without prior calibration for surfaces whose correlation length is > 500 m. In this case,permittivity can be estimate only if a reference area is known to calibrate the signal. Finally, we detecta seasonal variation of the reflectivity at poles that we attribute to the seasonal CO2 frost. Ourstatistical approach for the reflectivity, associated with a three layers backscattering model, allowsderiving the thickness variation of the frost. We report a late recession in the cryptic region.

This article describes some methods of measuring complex permitivity in milimeter – wave band, their characteristics, anvatages and disadvantages. Discused are here the reasons for their use in the construction of work place. On the basis these reasons is chosen the best method for practical measurement. That is cavity resonant method. Article contain description of designed measurement system. Whitch is verified by computer simulating of developed model in HFSS Ansoft. Text contain also result of simulations and execute computing of comlex permittivity and tangent loss. In Conclusion is desribed results of practical permittivity measure with realized measurement system.

This work deals with modeling of progression of dielectric variables and mixture formulas for solution of properties of composite materials in dependency on frequency. Theoretical part of the work explains physical principles of polarisation mechanisms and influence on dielectric constant with changing temperature and frequency. In theoretical part processes inside the composite material, which is in electrical field are described. The work contains summary of mixture formulas and methods of their derivation. Program for use in education is a part of the work. It allows modelling of progression of dielectric variables in dependency on frequency and Cole-Cole circle diagram. In mixtures it allows modelling of frequency dependencies of dielectric constant in accordance to Maxwell's, Bőttcher's and Lichtenecker's mixture formulas.

Presented thesis is oriented on wearable antennas. The main aim of this thesis is to introduce the basic properties, measurement of textile’s electric properties and several manufacturing methods. The antenna design for the ISM 5.8 GHz bandwidth is also included and further observed by numerical model in CST Microwave Studio. The impact of flexibility and the influence of human tissue are evaluated in the case of designed equipment. According to the optimized design was made several samples by various technologies and samples were measured. Achieved results are further compared to equivalent results listed in actual available references.

Ce travail concerne l’étude de deux dispositifs coplanaires de type composite main droite/gauche (CRLH : composite right left handed). Il s’agit d’un résonateur d’ordre zéro (ZOR) et d’une ligne méta-matériaux (méta-ligne). Dans la première partie du mémoire, des généralités sur des méta-matériaux et des méta-lignes et quelques domaines d’applications sont présentés. Ensuite, des dispositifs agiles en fréquences de types composites CRLH sont décrites et en particuliers ceux à composites à bases de nanoparticules magnétiques réalisés dans ces travaux de thèse. L’agilité en fréquence recherchée a été obtenue avec moins de pertes dans les dispositifs. La deuxième partie concerne la caractérisation électromagnétique (EM) de sol-gel. Quelques méthodes de caractérisations EM sont présentées. Ensuite, celles qui ont été utilisées pour caractériser les composites solgel magnétiques. La troisième partie est vouée aux démarches technologiques et résultats expérimentaux sur les méthodes de caractérisation EM. Quelques procédés de dépôts ont été énumérés. Les propriétés EM complexes (ℰ* et μ*) de so-gel dopé ont été déterminées / This work concerns the study of two type coplanar devices composite right / left handed (CRLH). It is about a zero order resonator (ZOR) and a metamaterial line (meta-line). In the first part, brief generalities on metamaterials, meta-lines and some domain of application are presented. Then tunable devices in frequency CRLH composite types are described and particularly those made of magnetic nanoparticles (sol-gel) made in the this work. The desired frequency agility was achieved with less loss in the devices. The second part concerns the doped sol -gel electromagnetic characterization. Some methods for electromagnetic characterization are presented. Then, those which have been used to characterize the sol-gel are presented. The third part is devoted to technological approaches and experimental results on electromagnetic characterization methods. Some deposition processes have been listed. Two important mechanisms in preparation of ultrathin films of magnetic oxides were systematically investigated in this work. First, influence of epitaxial strain on resulting magneto-optical properties of La2/3Sr1/3MnO3 (LSMO) ultrathin films was studied. The investigated films were grown by pulsed laser deposition on four different substrates, providing a broad range of induced epitaxial strains. Magnetic properties were found to deteriorate with increasing value of the epitaxial strain, as expected due to the unit cell distortion increasingly deviating from the bulk and effect of the magnetically inert layer. A combination of spectroscopic ellipsometry and magneto-optical Kerr effect spectroscopy was used to determine spectra of the diagonal and off-diagonal elements of permittivity tensor. The off-diagonal elements confirmed presence of two previously reported electronic transitions in spectra of all films. Moreover, they revealed another electronic transition around 4.3 eV only in spectra of films grown under compressive strain. We proposed classification of this transition as crystal field paramagnetic Mn t2g → eg transition, which was further supported by ab initio calculations. Tesis por compendio / [ES] La permitividad es una propiedad física de los materiales que describe su comportamiento en presencia de un campo electromagnético. Los sensores de microondas pueden desempeñar un papel esencial en las tareas de detección, supervisión o control de procesos, ya que algunos parámetros fisicoquímicos de los materiales producen cambios medibles en las propiedades dieléctricas. Además, la tecnología de calentamiento por microondas está adquiriendo una relevancia creciente para la transición ecológica y la descarbonización de los procesos industriales, y la permitividad es el parámetro esencial para el desarrollo exitoso de estos nuevos procesos. La permitividad depende de muchos factores, por lo que los métodos de medición de la permitividad deben adaptarse a las necesidades del material y del entorno de medición. El número de aplicaciones que requieren la monitorización o medida de las propiedades dieléctricas, las altas dependencias de esta magnitud bajo diferentes condiciones, y la necesidad de poner esta tecnología al alcance de un usuario más amplio y menos especializado, justifican el desarrollo de este trabajo. Esta tesis pretende desarrollar nuevos dispositivos para la monitorización y caracterización de dieléctricos adaptados a diferentes entornos, cubriendo un amplio rango de formatos, formas y propiedades de los materiales. Las dos primeras publicaciones incluidas en la tesis describen dos enfoques diferentes para abordar las mediciones de permitividad. El primer artículo describe un instrumento versátil, autónomo y fácil de usar para medir la permitividad de materiales dentro de tubos. El diseño de la cavidad logró una excelente sensibilidad, y el estudio de la red de acoplamiento permitió la caracterización de materiales de pérdidas bajas, moderadas y altas con una misma configuración. Este dispositivo incluye un reflectómetro vectorial portátil propio, lo que lo hace portátil y asequible. Las características del instrumento desarrollado permiten un uso sencillo por parte de personal no especializado y proporcionan versatilidad en muchas situaciones. La segunda publicación presenta el diseño específico de una sonda coaxial de extremo abierto con una mayor sensibilidad para determinar la permitividad de productos alimenticios de altas pérdidas en función de la temperatura a frecuencias de RF. Este artículo destaca la importancia de seleccionar la técnica de medición más adecuada, adaptada al entorno y a las particularidades del material, para la determinación apropiada de la permitividad. Los dos artículos siguientes describen el desarrollo y la utilización de un microscopio de microondas de campo cercano con resolución micrométrica para determinar mapas de permitividad de materiales planos heterogéneos a frecuencias de microondas. En ambos trabajos se describen los diferentes elementos que componen el instrumento del microscopio y las técnicas de análisis para determinar los valores de permitividad a partir de las medidas de los parámetros de la resonancia. En el primer trabajo se empleó por primera vez la tecnología de microondas en aplicaciones contra la falsificación, obteniendo la marca dieléctrica de la marca de agua de un billete. Además, este estudio demostró la capacidad de la energía de microondas para detectar marcas ocultas detrás de capas dieléctricas o metálicas, lo que abre nuevas posibilidades para el desarrollo de elementos de seguridad ópticamente opacos e imposibles de rastrear por medios ópticos. El segundo estudio demuestra la versatilidad de este sistema para determinar las propiedades dieléctricas de materiales planos heterogéneos midiendo la respuesta dieléctrica de especímenes de roca. Microwave sensors can play an essential role in detecting, monitoring, or process control tasks as some physicochemical parameters of materials produce measurable changes in dielectric properties. Besides, microwave heating technology is gaining increasing relevance for the ecological transition and decarbonization of industrial processes, and permittivity is the essential parameter for the successful development of these new processes. Permittivity depends on many factors and thus, permittivity measurement methods must be adapted to the needs of the material and the measurement environment. The number of applications that require the monitoring or measurement of dielectric properties, the high dependencies of this magnitude under different conditions, and the need to make this technology available to a broader and less specialized user justify the development of this work. This thesis aims to develop new devices for the monitoring and characterization of dielectrics adapted to different environments, covering a wide range of materials' formats, shapes, and properties. The first two publications included in the thesis describe two different approaches to address permittivity measurements. The first paper describes a versatile, stand-alone, and easy-to-use instrument for measuring the permittivity materials inside tubes. The design of the cavity achieved an excellent sensitivity, and the study of the coupling network allowed the characterization of low, moderate, and high-loss materials with the same setup. This device included an in-house portable vector reflectometer, making it portable and cost-affordable. The features of the developed instrument allow straightforward use by non-specialized personnel and provide versatility in many situations. The second publication presents a specific open-ended coaxial design with increased sensitivity to determine the permittivity of lossy food products as a function of temperature at RF frequencies. This paper highlight the relevance of selecting the most suitable measurement technique, adapted to the environment and particularities of the material, for the appropriate determination of permittivity. The following two papers describe the development and use of a near-field scanning microwave microscope with micrometric resolution to determine permittivity maps of heterogeneous planar materials at microwave frequencies. The different elements comprising the microscope instrument and the analysis techniques to determine permittivity values from the resonance measurements were described throughout both works. In the first paper, microwave technology was employed for the first time in anti-counterfeiting applications by obtaining the dielectric mark of a banknote watermark. Besides, this study showed the ability of microwave energy to detect hidden marks behind dielectric or metallic layers, opening new possibilities for developing optically opaque security features untraceable by optical means. The second study demonstrates the versatility of this system in determining the dielectric properties of heterogeneous planar materials by measuring the dielectric response of rock specimens.
