Avaliação dos traços de personalidade em pacientes com anorexia nervosa, segundo o Inventário de Temperamento e Caráter de Cloninger / Evaluation of personality traits in patients with nervous anorexy, according to the inventory of Temperament and Character of Cloninger

Baise, Mirella 14 October 2008 (has links)
The eating disorders are characterized by behavior not good in consumption and dietary patterns, and wrong beliefs about diet that cause a worser nutritional quality. Object Relations Theory and Personal Construct Theory: Rapprochement Opportunity

Rasile, Karen D. 08 1900 (has links)
Empirical investigation of the tenets of Object Relations Theory is recent. This study of the theoretical convergence between Object Relations Theory and Personal Construct Theory brought a new direction to the empirical investigation. It was hypothesized that individuals who displayed a well developed level of object relations, as measured by Object Relations Theory, would also display a highly adaptive blend of cognitive complexity and ordination, as described by Personal Construct Theory, and vice versa. A correlational analysis of personality measures on 136 college students approached but did not attain statistical significance. Results indicated no significant theoretical convergence between Object Relations Theory and Personal Construct Theory. Further research is warranted only if greater variability in sample age, life experience, and psychopathology is assured.

Response distortion and social desirability in high-level executives

Schnure, Katherine Anne 17 November 2009 (has links)
The effect of Socially Desirable Responding (SDR) and response distortion on personality and selection measures has been debated for decades (Edwards, 1957b; Messick&Jackson, 1961; Morgeson et al., 2007, Ones, Viswesvaran,&Reiss, 1996). One area of this broad topic that has received less attention over the years has been the effectiveness of the scales used to measure SDR when evidence of potential response distortion is present. Using a MANOVA, this study found significant differences between job candidate and incumbent responses on the scales of the 16PF (Cattell&Cattell, 1995), which can be indicative of SDR (Rosse et al., 1998). However, no difference between the groups was found on the Impression Management scale used to measure SDR. Differences based on the job function of the respondents were also explored.

Detecting Inaccurate Response Patterns in Korean Military Personality Inventory: An Application of Item Response Theory

Hong, Seunghwa 16 December 2013 (has links)
There are concerns regarding the risk of the inaccurate responses in the personality data. The inaccurate responses negatively affect in the individual selection contexts. Especially, in the military context, the personality score including inaccurate responses results in the selection of inappropriate personnel or allows enlistment dodgers to avoid their military duty. This study conducted IRT-based person-fit analysis with the dichotomous military dataset in the Korean Military Personality Inventory. In order for that, 2PL model was applied for the data and person-fit index l_(z) was used to detect aberrant respondents. Based on l_(z) values of each respondent, potentially inaccurate respondents was identified. In diagnosing possible sources of aberrant response patterns, PRCs was assessed. This study with the military empirical data shows that person-fit analysis using l_(z) is applicable and practical method for detecting inaccurate response patterns in the personnel selection contexts based on the personality measurement.

Personality Attributes in Clinical Presentation, Measurement, and Treatment

Thalmayer, Amber Gayle 10 October 2013 (has links)
Psychotherapy is sought for diverse problems, and trust in its efficacy has led to increasing parity in insurance coverage for psychological services. But about half of those who begin therapy drop out prematurely, and only about half of those who complete therapy experience significant improvements. Here issues of efficacy measurement and the potential role of personality differences to better guide and assess treatment are explored. It is hoped this knowledge could lead to increased success rates. In terms of outcome measurement, the use and psychometric properties of the Outcome Questionnaire-45 (OQ-45), a popular, brief measure of psychological functioning and change, are assessed. Factor structure is tested in clinical (Study 1) and student (Study 2) samples. Alternative scoring models test whether dimensions of personality drive responses. Using bi-level models, including a total score factor, fit of the intended structure and three- and four-factor personality models was similar. A seven-factor problems model provided the best fit. About half the variance in OQ scores was accounted for by a Big Six personality inventory. The best items for assessing personality attributes in OQ-45 data are noted. Secondly, the relation between personality attributes and clinical presentation and outcomes is explored. Self-report scores on personality attributes predict virtually every life outcome and are highly associated with clinical presentation. Such attributes surely also play a role in treatment, but this association has not been widely studied. In Study 3 the relation of personality attributes to presentation, usage, and outcome is tested in a Couples and Family Therapy clinic sample (N = 222). Neuroticism was strongly associated with initial OQ-45 score, as were other scales (except Openness) to a lesser degree. Being older, more educated, and married predicted attending more sessions, and being older, female, and higher income predicted termination success. Personality scales did not play a role in either outcome. Honesty/Propriety and Neuroticism were, however, associated with steeper decrease in OQ-45 scores over time. / 2015-10-10

A cross-cultural examination of personality factors associated with text bullying in 13 - 14-year-old girls : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in Psychology at Massey University, Wellington, New Zealand

Sanderson, James Edward January 2009 (has links)
This research set out to determine factors associated with text bullying. It examined the relationship between personality traits and the level of hostility expressed by students in reaction to sample text messages. One hundred and ninety eight girls aged 13 and 14 in Canada and New Zealand volunteered to complete a questionnaire consisting of four personality measures - the impulsivity subscale of the PRF-E, cynical distrust scale (revised), needs for power scale (revised), and the rejection sensitivity scale (adult, short). The survey also rated their proposed likely response to eight sample text messages that covered four themes and to two levels of intensity. Results using Pearson’s r correlation of .01 demonstrated a significant relationship between hostility and impulsivity. There was no significant difference in either the results of the personality measures or their level of hostility between the results of the Canadian and New Zealand participants. How these findings contribute to the current theoretical knowledge of adolescent bullying and the practical application of these findings for schools are also discussed.

The Relationship of Selected Personality Factors to Turnover Among Restaurant Managers

Daughtry, Perry 08 1900 (has links)
This study investigated the relationship between turnover and personality measures through the application of discriminant analysis in a split sample cross validation design. Four personality tests measuring 34 dimensions of personality were administered to 300 Caucasian male job applicants. The tests were the Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientation-Behavior, the Vocational Preference Inventory, a shortened version of the DF-Opinion Survey, and the Guilford Zimmerman Temperament Survey. Ten of the dimensions were initially found to be significantly related to turnover. The shrinkage of the coefficient after cross validation was enough for the loss of statistical significance. It is suggested that personality measures are moderately associated with turnover and that investigations examining methods to reduce turnover should focus on other variables.

Fidedignidade do sistema compreensivo do Rorschach: revisão e estudo da estabilidade temporal em adultos da cidade de São Paulo / Reliability of the Rorschach Comprehensive System: review and study of temporal stability in adults from the city of São Paulo

Silva Neto, Antonio Carlos Pacheco e 30 April 2008 (has links)
We have evaluated the temporal stability of 59 Rorschach Comprehensive System (RCS) core variables. Our sample was composed of 32 nonpatients adults from the city of São Paulo, who volunteered to participate. They could have access to assessment results after the data collection. Participants were predominantly women (75%), single individuals (50%), from socioeconomic classes A (41%) and B (41%), with ages from 19 to 58 and 13 years of education on average. Twenty-five participants (78%) were employees from the university where the research was accomplished, two (6%) were students at the university and five (16%) were acquaintances of the employees. We used a test-retest design with a 3 to 4 months retest interval. All records were collected and codified by the author. A second rater independently coded 10 records from test and 10 records from retest, randomly selected. Interrater reliability was substantial (iota > .60) for most RCS variables. The mean test-retest correlation for the 59 core variables was r = .61, which indicates a moderate level of temporal stability. We also investigated directionality of proportions and categorical consistency. Between 44% and 70% of the participants were in the same interpretive category on test and retest. These results were lower than the original RCS research, but similar to the findings of a recent French study. Temporal stability for constellations was high, with at least 88% of the participants keeping the same negative or positive status on test and retest. Range restriction and skewness did not seem to explain the lower stability found in our sample, but the distributions of values for some variables, with a high frequency of participants with scores of zero and outliers, may have contributed. Task engagement in our sample apparently was similar to that found for the normative sample of adults from São Paulo, but lower than in the original RCS research. Lower task engagement may have contributed to the lower temporal stability. Factors of the testing situation seem to have played an important role in the results also. Brazilian users should take care in interpreting RCS results, mainly when task engagement is low (indicated by low R and high Lambda). More research with RCS in Brazil is needed, also to investigate procedures for obtaining higher task engagement, which may contribute to higher reliability and validity of test results.
