To investigate this phenomenon started from the hypothesis that relations of friendship and kinship influence the migratory process of peruvians and impact negotiations identity experienced by them. In this sense, one of the concerns of this work is understand the motivations and meanings of different personal trajectories of men and women of peruvian nationality who left their country of origin and they integrated in another sociocultural reality. So, to verify the proximity between brazilians and peruvians and the different levels of changes made between them, to reveal the identity aspects that determine and characterize the insertion of peruvian migrants in Boa Vista´s society, was used the qualitative methodology, with an emphasis in the open interviews and informal conversation. The interlocutors of the study were men and women of peruvian nationality, between 18 and 72 years old, who came at different periods and they exert different professional activities, as merchants, doctors and teachers. The light of the theories of migration studies and identity was possible to understand how the peruvian migrants negotiate their identities, according to their migration experiences, although they are away from their place of origin, they do not lose the native culture and identity like a reference. However, they also incorporate elements of culture, and the identity of the destination enabling the negotiation of their identities through their survival strategies, from their representations, the dilemmas of their own migrant status and through of mediation wherein feel understood by Boa Vista´s society. In this context, the families networks and friendships of peruvian migrants, they strengthen the referential significant of place of origin, well as the condition of migrant subject.

Nakamura Goshima, Patricia 10 April 2018 (has links)
A common problem that immigrants who arrive to different countries of the world face is finding information, guidance and support related to the education of their children. Generally, social networks formed by other fellow nationals represent an important source of support. However, a question arises from that premise. What happens in the case of immigrants who do not have these kinds of connections with their fellow nationals? This paper analyses the case of a Peruvian community in Japan where a lack of strong relationships that represent a valuable social capital for its members was observed.

(Dual) Citizenship in the Mirror. The everyday understanding of citizenship among Peruvian migrants in Italy and Spain

Yapo, Stefania 27 February 2020 (has links)
This research investigates why people acquire dual citizenship. It focuses on the acquisition of dual citizenship through residency, with a processual lens and under conditions of “ordinariness” to tackle aspects that are usually overlooked. It builds on the differentiated access to dual citizenship granted to Peruvian migrants by the Italian and Spanish citizenship regimes. The 79 Peruvian migrants included in the study are either prospective dual citizens or actual dual citizens. The research builds on qualitative methods ranging from participant observation to in-depth semi-structured interviews. It investigates the motivations, expectations and contingences that bring migrants to the status acquisition. The analysis distinguishes between early and postponed acquisitions to highlight how practices of convenience and everyday forms of substantive commitment can coexist under the same national umbrella. Moreover it suggests that the availability and accessibility of the dual status cannot be conflated with a supposed desirability. Although nation-states design their citizenship and immigration regimes according to normative stances that should shape their ideal citizenry, individuals qua migrants manage to forge their own way into the host community while formally abiding the law. Thus, migrants’ pathways across statuses are the result of structural constraints as much as personal preferences and deliberate positioning vis-à-vis nation-states. The study shows how people navigate the laws through both legal and semi-legal means; how they cultivate constellations of belonging that do not necessarily match formal memberships; and how they invest citizenship with multiple meanings that can converge, collide, or simply bypass the state-led rhetoric on national membership.

Vivanco Vidal, Andrea Paola 30 October 2020 (has links)
COVID - 19 has harmed people's mental health worldwide.

Murrugarra Cerna, Juan Carlos 12 1900 (has links)
Immigration in Quebec has recently experienced a new trend. In fact, the arrival of immigrants socially perceived as "ethnic minorities", or more specifically as "visible minorities", has become increasingly evident, especially in the urban context where ethnic diversity is palpable every day. In this master’s thesis, we focus on the impact of leisure defined as a set of cultural practices, that is to say leisure practices embedded in the “habitus,” to support the analysis of the social integration of a group of Peruvian immigrants recently arrived in Montréal. This investigation seeks to explore the relationship between leisure and integration. Utilizing a theoretical framework allowed us to approach leisure, as a field that encourages participation in the host society. To achieve this goal, we used a qualitative approach in order to "rebuild" the integration trajectory of five Peruvian newcomers who had settled in Montréal for five years or less. The data analysis reveals that the integration process of these immigrants is difficult, since this process presents challenges of adaptation (acculturation) to the host society, and leisure activities have a positive impact on that process in part because they play a strategic role that promotes adaptation and participation. These activities also illustrate the modes of incorporation into some areas of social life (employment, cultural life, friendship and socialization), which does not completely break the ties to the community of origin. In daily practice, leisure promotes the rapprochement with the majority group and more generally, with the other ethnic groups living in Montréal: the friendship develops, the practices of sociability are deployed, the consumption of some goods and services is stimulated, and the individual meet more people, etc. The connection between ethnic communalization and integration can allow the individual to enter different areas and groups. Moreover, pleasure is the engine of leisure, so this means that leisure activities chosen by these individuals match their personal tastes and interests. This link facilitates the deployment of specific “responses” by these newcomers (coping responses), in order to face their problems of adaptation, and the confirmation of a sort of integration feeling among them.
