Music for player piano : a study of seventeen selected examples

Bowdery, Francis T. January 1995 (has links)
From virtually the beginning of the twentieth century, musicians were sufficiently intrigued by the possibilities of the player piano to compose and specially arrange music for it. The aesthetic of 'automatic music' reaches back at least as far as JS Bach and forward to Conlon Nancarrow and Georgy Ligeti, as well as in developments in electronic popular and art music. This thesis makes a case study of seventeen compositions, arrangements and fragments from the period of the instrument's greatest commercial success, 1900-1927, including music by Bax, Busoni, Casella, Hans Haass, Hindemith and Stravinsky, and seeks to relate them to the broader range both of player piano compositions and music for other automatic musical instruments, as well as the stylistic developments of the time. A number of items are in score for the first time, and an attempt at a complete listing of the repertory for player piano is included.

Amoedo Portela, Alejo 07 January 2020 (has links)
However, the repertoire where the piano is included went unnoticed; as a consequence, we set out to carry out this work with the aim of providing interpreters and scholars with a reference document of the repertoire in which the instrument is used, which is summarized in works for solo piano, chamber music for a piano sextet (composed of two violins, viola, cello, double bass and piano), for violin and piano and voice and piano. We include in the annexes the revision and edition in a score format of a representative selection of works, as well as the recording and edition in CD format, of a choice of them for solo piano. This repertoire is framed in what we can generically call «lounge music». As a result of the research work developed, we can get to know this composer better and provide new information about his life and work. Finally, the cataloged works were a total of 85, distributed in: 63 for solo piano, 5 for sextet with piano, 3 for violin and piano and 14 for voice and piano. Keywords: Reveriano Soutullo, piano, pianola, sextet with piano, lounge music. / Amoedo Portela, A. (2019). The development of a piano-recorder system

Damm, Bernt W January 1993 (has links)
Thesis (Masters Diploma (Electrical Engineering)--Cape Technikon, Cape Town, 1993 / This thesis describes the development and design of a pianorecorder system. This system makes it possible to record the notes played on a piano onto a computer disk. The records can then be used for the manufacturing of pianola rolls.
