Optimal Vibration Suppression Using On-line Pole/Zero Identification

McEver, Mark Andrew 18 January 2000 (has links)
Vehicles and mechanisms which must perform very precise tasks or maneuvers require controllers to compensate for their inherent structural flexibility. Many of these applications involve structures that have time-varying dynamics, or have dynamics that are not considered in the traditional off-line controller design. These types of structures necessitate the use of adaptive control algorithms which can redesign themselves on-line in response to changes in the structural dynamics. This work describes an on-line control algorithm that uses the pole-zero spacings of the collocated control-to-output transfer function to design the optimum Positive Position Feedback (PPF) control law. The PPF control law uses second-order filters to add closed-loop damping to resonant structural modes. An on-line PPF design algorithm was developed based on the theoretical model of the collocated control-to-output transfer function. The optimal PPF filter parameters are shown to be a function of the pole-zero spacing in the collocated transfer function. These parameters were found by solving the pole placement problem using a theoretical model for various pole-zero spacings. The parameters are then stored in a lookup table in the realtime controller, and a frequency sweep algorithm identifies the pole-zero spacing on-line and designs the PPF filters using the parameters in the lookup table. A Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) was also studied as a means for adaptively tuning the PPF filters on-line. The PLL behavior in the presence of random and deterministic signals was characterized. The PLL was used experimentally to tune a PPF filter to a changing modal frequency. Analysis of the theoretical model indicated the amount of closed-loop damping a PPF filter can add monotonically increases with the amount of frequency spacing of the pole/zero pair. Experimental results with the on-line optimal PPF control algorithm proved it to be effective at adding damping to structures and suppressing vibration. The poles and zeros of the control-to-output transfer function were accurately identified by the pole/zero identification routine. However, the closed-loop performance was shown to be very dependent on the correct placement of sensor and actuator pairs. Tests with pointing control problems showed the algorithm to be better suited to vibration suppression rather than vibration isolation. Simulations and experiments with the phase-locked loop showed it to be unable to track a modal frequency of a structure excited by broadband noise. Bandpass prefilters would be necessary to eliminate the frequency content of the other modes, limiting the usefulness of the PLL. / Master of Science

Otevřená strunová teorie pole v přístupu oříznutí levelem / Level Truncation Approach to Open String Field Theory

Kudrna, Matěj January 2019 (has links)
Given a D-brane background in string theory (or equivalently boundary conditions in a two dimensional conformal field theory), classical solutions of open string field theory equations of motion are conjectured to describe new D-brane backgrounds (boundary conditions). In this thesis we study these solutions in the bosonic open string field theory using the level truncation approach, which is a numerical approach where the string field is truncated to a finite number of degrees of freedom. We start with a review of the theoretical background and numerical methods which are needed in the level truncation approach and then we discuss solutions in several different back- grounds. First we discuss universal solutions, which do not depend on the open string back- ground, then we analyze solutions of the free boson theory compactified on a circle or on a torus, then marginal solutions in three different approaches and finally solutions in theories which in- clude the A-series of Virasoro minimal models. In addition to known D-branes, we find so-called exotic solutions which potentially describe yet unknown boundary states. 1

RADNICE - VĚC VEŘEJNÁ, Správní centrum městské části Brno-sever / CITY HALL - RES PUBLICA, The administrative center of the district of Brno-sever

Šírková, Kateřina January 2015 (has links)
The New Town Hall for Brno Sever is located in a dominant position at the centre of a new residential development at the site of the former barracks. The design seeks to fulfill the principles of a citizen-friendly city hall and Vitruvius perfect scale of construction, durability, utility and beauty. A design is clear, beauty can be an application of timeless solution based on the purpose and simplicity of forms. Permanence means a building capability to respond flexibly to changes in the territory, legislation and society. From the square a visitor passes through a wide portal into the inner public space in to which galleries and offices are open. The most frequently used functions are concentrated in the inner parterre. The building includes all workplaces required by a construction workplan and also a ceremonial hall, restaurant, exhibition space in the atrium and a so- called company nursery for employees' children, where it is possible a short-term babysitting for children of the town hall visitors.

Tvarování přijímací charakteristiky mikrofonních polí / Beamforming using microphone arrays

Bartoň, Zdeněk January 2010 (has links)
The aim of the master thesis is to sum up theoretical information about beamforming methods of microphone arrays and to verify their functionality. At the beginning of this work there are simulated different varietes of linear uniform and nonuniform microphone arrays and circular arrays. The results are verificated by a practical measurement in ideal conditions. Then I will focuse on implementation of the DAS(Delay And Sum), SAB(Sub Array Beamforming), CDB(Constant Directivity Beamforming), CDB-CA(CDB-Circular Arrays) beamformer including theoretical and practical verification of the functionality in ideal conditions. At the end of this thesis are all beamforming methods compared with each other at SNR(signal to Noise Ratio) and directivity parameters.

Synchronous Machine for Unidirectional Application

Yu, Yang January 2012 (has links)
This master thesis investigates the possibilities for performance improvements of synchronous machines with unidirectional application. The literature review part presents theories and applications of asymmetrical machine. Four categories regarding asymmetrical machine, namely mixed pole, saturation mitigation, pole shifting and asymmetrical pole shaping, are summarized. It is shown that asymmetrical concept offers characteristic improvement in one or both rotational directions. A field winding synchronous model was used in FEM simulation (FLUX 2D). Armature reaction effecton this machine is investigated. It is found that armature reaction has different effects with varying current angle. Two ideas regarding asymmetrical pole shaping are investigated. First of all, pole shoe cutting idea is investigated. It leads to increased airgap length and less output torque. Secondly, progressive airgap idea shows reduced armature reaction effect and improved power factor, but higher torque ripple.Furthermore, an improved idea is suggested to reduce the torque ripple. Performance improvement by assisted permanent magnet is also studied. Four ideas of this field are investigated. It is found that permanent magnet can be used to reduce saturation, improve power factor and output torque. The reasons for limited improvements are analyzed.

La recherche de « sexiness » chez les adeptes de pole-fitness : une étude de terrain montréalais

Beauchamp, Valérie 08 1900 (has links)
This study explores the new female subject of postfeminism centred on the idea of ‘classy’ sexiness that represents a transformation from the traditional bourgeois femininity focused on passive sexuality. The possibility for women to represent themselves as active sexual subjects is understood by postfeminism writers as a way to transgress the stigmata attached to those who do not behave as mute and passive sexual objects. This transformation in normative femininity have been criticised due to the fact that it may represents only one form of power given to women which is limited to the sexualised body and thus supports heteronormative relations. In this vision, the new female subject operates as a disciplinary discourse by the injunction to constitute oneself through sexiness. The interpretation of this new female subject causes divergent opinions within feminist circles. The need to obtain an interpretation of this new female subject that will take in consideration both the possibilities of resistance to patriarchy and heteronormativity as well as the regulative aspects of this limited version of femininity based on sexiness represents a tense fray in the feminist communities. This study aims to enrich this debate by gaining a deeper understanding of what drives women to enroll in pole dancing classes and what meanings they attach to this activity. The main objective is to shed new light on the impact of this search for sexiness on female subjectivities based on the tense relation between disciplinary practices and strategies of resistance.
