An LMI Approach to Multiobjective Control via Static Output Feedback

Lin, Chao-Yen 08 July 2004 (has links)
In this thesis, LMI approach is employed to design a static output feedback controller so that all poles of the considered closed-loop continuous-time system are located within a prescribed LMI region, named D region. Based on the coordinate transformation, an analysis about the derived LMI-based sufficient condition is also established. The result is, moreover, extended to treat pole placement in the generalized LMI region, denoted by DR region. In addition to the requirement on pole location, two commonly exploited system performances in robust control, i.e. the H2 and Hinf designs, are also considered so that the multiobjective control by static output feedback is investigated in this thesis. To address robustness issue of the designed controllers, three different uncertainty descriptions, i.e. norm bounded uncertainty, positive real uncertainty, and polytopic uncertainty, are considered and LMI conditions for quadratic D stabilization by static output feedback have been derived. The bounded realness and positive realness with respect to an LMI D region are studied as well. Numerical examples are provided in the end of chapters 3, 4, and 5 to illustrate the obtained results there.

DC Motor Speed Control via Fuzzy / Pole Placement / PI Controller

Ashraf, Ali Junaid January 2010 (has links)
This report presents a new way of control engineering. Dc motor speed controlled by three controllers PID, pole placement and Fuzzy controller and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of each controller for different conditions under loaded and unloaded scenarios using software Matlab. The brushless series wound Dc motor is very popular in industrial application and control systems because of the high torque density, high efficiency and small size. First suitable equations are developed for DC motor. PID controller is developed and tuned in order to get faster step response. The simulation results of PID controller provide very good results and the controller is further tuned in order to decrease its overshoot error which is common in PID controllers. Further it is purposed that in industrial environment these controllers are better than others controllers as PID controllers are easy to tuned and cheap. Pole placement controller is the best example of control engineering. An addition of integrator reduced the noise disturbances in pole placement controller and this makes it a good choice for industrial applications. The fuzzy controller is introduce with a DC chopper to make the DC motor speed control smooth and almost no steady state error is observed. Another advantage is achieved in fuzzy controller that the simulations of three different controllers are compared and concluded from the results that Fuzzy controller outperforms to PID controller in terms of steady state error and smooth step response. While Pole placement controller have no comparison in terms of controls because designer can change the step response according to nature of control systems, so this controller provide wide range of control over a system. Poles location change the step response in a sense that if poles are near to origin then step response of motor is fast. Finally a GUI of these three controllers are developed which allow the user to select any controller and change its parameters according to the situation.

Controle baseado em linearização por realimentação dos estados aplicado a um servoposicionador pneumático / Feedback linearization control applied to a servo pneumatic positioning systems

Suzuki, Ricardo Murad January 2010 (has links)
Pneumatic positioning systems are clean, lightweight, cheap and present a good rate between the payload and supply power. However, this system shows a highly non-linear behavior, caused mainly by the compression of the air and the friction force. Linear strategies do not present an efficiently control in this kind of system and an improved design technique of control is needed, as neural network control, adaptive control, variable structure control or feedback linearization. In this work, it is developed the application of a feedback linearization control scheme integrated with the state feedback and pole placement method to a pneumatic positioning system. The feedback linearization strategy uses the non-linearities estimation of the pneumatic model to linearize the pneumatic positioning system and allow the use of linear or non-linear controls technique to control the behavior of the servopositioner. In this work, an analysis of the convergence properties of the closed-loop errors of the system when the proposed controller is employed is provided. It is shown that if the parameters are known than the system presents asymptotic convergence of the tracking errors to zero. The robustness properties analysis of the controller is also presented and the system behavior with the uncertainty parameters is analysed. Simulation and experimental tests were performed to assess the behavior and the efficiency of the feedback linearization control. The result of the proposed control shows to be promising on the reduction of position errors in trajectory tracking and in steadystate behavior. The tests show the presence of a strong influence of the friction force and that the friction comparation in techniques must be studied in futher developments.

On the Relationships Between Robust Stability, Generalized Performance, Quadratic Stability, and KYP Lemma

Wei, Chia-Po 17 March 2011 (has links)
There are two main approaches to robust stability analysis: the input-output stability framework with scaling or multiplier, and the Lyapunov functions. Analysis methods in these two directions are usually developed independently, and the relationship between the two is not clear except for some special cases. This motivates us to study the relationship between the two approaches. The generalized performance problem refers to certain frequency-domain conditions on a transfer matrix. We prove the equivalent relationship between generalized performance and robust stability under certain assumptions. The definition of generalized performance requires the internal stability of a transfer matrix, which is not a necessity for robust stability. In view of this, we derive new frequency-domain conditions for robust stability without this requirement. Our result contains a version of the circle criterion as a special case. To tackle the generalized performance problem, we propose a version of the Kalman-Yakubovich-Popov (KYP) lemma to transform the frequency-domain conditions into linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The proposed LMI condition is then connected to the quadratic stability of an uncertain linear system. Combining the derived results gives a clear picture of the relationships between robust stability, generalized performance, quadratic stability, and KYP lemma. The connections not only unify some previous results but also extend those results to more general stability regions and types of uncertainty. In addition to robust stability analysis, we also tackle the corresponding synthesis problem, i.e. robust pole placement. The desired region for robust pole placement can be the intersection or the union of simple regions. (Simple regions are the half plane, the disk, and the outside of a disk.) One contribution of our synthesis result is that the desired region can be non-convex¡Xmost results on robust pole placement focus on convex regions only. Two examples of the longitudinal control of a combat aircraft and the attitude control of a satellite demonstrate the effectiveness of our result.

Modelling and Control Methods with Applications to Mechanical Waves

Norlander, Hans January 2014 (has links)
Models, modelling and control design play important parts in automatic control. The contributions in this thesis concern topics in all three of these concepts. The poles are of fundamental importance when analyzing the behaviour of a system, and pole placement is an intuitive and natural approach for control design. A novel parameterization for state feedback gains for pole placement in the linear multiple input case is presented and analyzed. It is shown that when the open and closed loop poles are disjunct, every state feedback gain can be parameterized. Other properties are also investigated. Hammerstein models have a static non-linearity on the input. A method for exact compensation of such non-linearities, combined with introduction of integral action, is presented. Instead of inversion of the non-linearity the method utilizes differentiation, which in many cases is simpler. A partial differential equation (PDE) can be regarded as an infinite order model. Many model based control design techniques, like linear quadratic Gaussian control (LQG), require finite order models. Active damping of vibrations in a viscoelastic beam, modelled as a PDE, is considered. The beam is actuated by piezoelectric elements and its movements are measured by strain gauges. LQG design is used, for which different finite order models, approximating the PDE model, are constructed. The so obtained controllers are evaluated on the original PDE model. Minimization of the measured strain yields a satisfactory performance, but minimization of transversal deflection does not. The effect of the model accuracy of the finite order model approximations is also investigated. It turns out that a model with higher accuracy in a specified frequency interval gives controllers with better performance. The wave equation is another PDE. A PDE model, with one spatial dimension, is established. It describes wave propagation in a tube perforated with helical slots. The model describes waves of both extensional and torsional type, as well as the coupling between the two wave types. Experimental data are used for estimation of model parameters, and for assessment of the proposed model in two different cases. The model is found adequate when certain geometrical assumptions are valid.

Vural, Ozgur Ahmet 01 January 2003 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis involves modeling, guidance, control, and flight simulations of a canard controlled guided missile. The autopilot is designed by a pole placement technique. Designed autopilot is used with the guidance systems considered in the thesis. Five different guidance methods are applied in the thesis, one of which is the famous proportional navigation guidance. The other four guidance methods are different fuzzy logic guidance systems designed considering different types of guidance inputs. Simulations are done against five different target types and the performances of the five guidance methods are compared and discussed.

Rivas López, Santiago Miguel January 2007 (has links)
The present work proposes the development of an algorithm to control active suspension systems for high performance elevators.
