This study examines the producer and consumer welfare associated with structural change of supply attributed to the effect of a government policy restricting the size of the production unit. The performance of the poultry industry in Indonesia is analyzed in terms of producer and consumer welfare using supply and demand elasticities. The elasticity of supply and demand were estimated using the Seemingly Unrelated Regressions (SUR) method. The hypothesized policy-induced structural change is estimated through a dummy variable accounting for shift in supply associated with implementation of the policy. / It is found that structural change induced by the restructuring policy shows a negative impact on the output supplied and welfare of society. Welfare losses are estimated for different levels in the marketing system namely producer, wholesaler and retail levels. Eighty percent of the losses are shared approximately equally by producers and consumers with the remaining twenty percent borne by the marketing sector.

The purpose of this study has been to analyze the effect of market regulation in the broiler industry in British Columbia and Washington State by comparing and contrasting the structure, conduct and performance of two institutions established to provide a degree of organization by producers in the marketing of broiler chickens. The two institutions studied have been the B.C. Broiler Marketing Board, in the province of British Columbia, Canada and the Washington Fryer Commission, in the state of Washington, United States of America. An analysis of the structure and conduct of the B.C. Broiler Marketing Board and the Washington Fryer Commission has been presented. An objectives model for organized marketing in the agricultural sector has been proposed, and from this model criteria have been chosen upon which to evaluate the market performance of the two structures with respect to organized marketing. It has been observed that the powers held by the B.C. Broiler Marketing Board are far more extensive than those held by the Washington Fryer Commission. It has been further observed that the performance of the B.C. Broiler Marketing Board has been primarily restrictive in nature and has had serious negative effects on the market environment for broiler chickens in British Columbia. The performance of the Washington Fryer Commission has been supportive in nature, and has had a positive effect on the
market environment for broiler chickens in Washington State. In analysing the two approachs to organized marketing in the broiler industry, it has been concluded that the vesting of powerful tools of market regulation with primary producer groups (whose interests

Extension strategies important and feasible for the improvement of poultry production in BangladeshAhmed, Hossain, 1955- January 1989 (has links)
The study identified the "most important" and the "most feasible" poultry extension strategies for the improvement of poultry production in Bangladesh during the next five years. Eighty-two poultry Extension agents of the Bangladesh Department of Livestock assessed the importance of the poultry Extension strategies and 15 Extension administrators assessed the feasibility of the "most important" strategies as identified by the agents. The response rate was 82.4% for the extension agents and 100% for the administrators. Descriptive statistics were used to analyse their responses. The respondents identified 38 "most important" poultry Extension strategies and 12 of these strategies as being also "most feasible" for the improvement of poultry production in Bangladesh. In addition, using the Spearman rank order correlation (rs, the study found that there was no significant difference between poultry Extension agents who were Veterinary Science graduates and Animal Husbandry graduates in their ranking of the importance of the poultry extension strategies despite the differences in their educational preparation.
