[ex] CHANGE : an architecture of experience : a train station and intermodal freight warehouse in Pretoria West

Joubert, Danie 09 December 2010 (has links)
The thesis is about the programmatic exchange and confluence between production processes, public transportation and people. The proposed intervention would be developed to fit in with the City of Tshwane Spatial development framework and an industracity vision and framework for the location in Pretoria West, developed by the framework group. The new intervention will deal with both production process and public activity in the design of a train station and intermodal freight warehouse. The site location is in Pretoria West, a mixed use suburb with restricted industry, business, retail, flats and single residential areas. The site is the Pretoria West Power Station an intersect fir existing infrastructure and public transportation routes. The aim of the investigation is the integration of public functions with industrial functions in ways that contest monotonous urban environments, preserving the heritage of the site in the outcome. The research questions what can be done to facilitate the return of lost production, increase the interaction of people and processes and address the decaying historical fabric of the Pretoria West Power Station. The study examines the history of production and railway stations, uses descriptive survey methods, precedent studies and architectural and urban theory to inform the intervention. The aim of the design is to transform an industrial site into a vibrant integrated environment, introducing programmes that will attract people , but keep the industrial character intact. The character of the site will be conserved through the introduction of new light industries, keeping the memory of process. The design concept links into the idea of electrical input and output exchanges of a power station. It focuses on the exchanges of energy, physical and visual exchanges between heritage, people and products, service exchanges and exchanges in function between freight and passengers and in context - heritage and production. The design objectives are to extend the railway line as a suspended platform to provide access and exchange for freight and passengers and to depart from the introverted nature of the existing buildings to encourage public interaction with the history of the site and the production processes. The railway track infrastructure will serve multiple purposes. / Dissertation (MArch (Prof))--University of Pretoria, 2010. / Architecture / unrestricted

[re]find - Pretoria West Power Station: reproducing the furniture industry through adaptive re-use

Pauw, Izaan Rykie 09 December 2010 (has links)
The aim of the design is to adapt a historic industrial structure and create a building that houses a production process, that is socially and historically responsive. A new structure will subtly connect with the old and accentuate the architectural heritage. By converting an old Boiler House into a furniture factory, the architecture strives to enable a physical and visual link between production and daily life. The urban fabric and showroom visually connects with the furniture makers, in order to inform the public on the production process. This will create a integrated socially responsive environment, where people can live, work and play. / Dissertation (MArch(Prof))--University of Pretoria, 2010. / Architecture / unrestricted

Oxyfuel-Technologie: Von der Grundlagenforschung zum Großkraftwerk mit CO2-Abscheidung

Löser, Jan, Hellfritsch, Stefan, Weigl, Sebastian, Wilhelm, Ronald, Klemm, Marco 15 January 2008 (has links)
The ‘CO2-free’ power station is a frequently encountered keyword in the media. This paper highlights the efforts which are being undertaken at TU Dresden to avoid carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere and, instead, to store it safely under ground. The handling of combustion with pure oxygen, simulation of the processes and cleaning of the exhaust gases are steps which need to be linked into a functional process chain for further evaluation. It is shown that this research is necessary in order to keep ‘CO2-free’ electricity affordable.

Facelift EDU / Facelift PDU

Sobotková, Monika January 2020 (has links)
The master thesis deals with the facelift of the forecourt of the Dukovany Nuclear Power Station . This space consists of supporting functions for the main working such as administrative, metrology, stocks, cloakrooms and services. There is also the station for the buses, which carry employees to and from work, the regular bus station and parking lots. The forecourt of the power station is now inconvenient from a functional point of view, because the capacity of the existing buildings and parking lots is insufficient; and also from aesthetic point of view, because the buildings from 70’s don’t look good anymore, the parking consists of the large asphalt areas and there is no representative anteroom in front of the main entry, which should be there in view of the significance of the power station. In the study I deal with these problems by the complex reconstruction of the area, I replace the huge asphalt parking lots with the parking houses, create the administrative zone with the public place in front of the main entry to the plant, extend the capacities for the particular functions and add the new required functions (kindergaten, other services). The result of this conversion is the area with the particular functional zones with the representative forecourt in front of the main entry and with the enough space for each of the functions. This work follows up the last semester urbanist-architectonic study. The diploma thesis focus on the improvements of the weaker parts of the prime study and on the elaboration of the architectural study of the adminstrative zone with services.

Zajištění datové komunikace digitálních ochran a terminálů do monitorovacího systému jaderné elektrárny Dukovany / Design of The Data Communication Between Digital Protection Relays and Monitoring System of Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant

Šula, Vladimír January 2015 (has links)
This thesis describes the provision of the data communication of the new protection relays via 6 kV switch gears to the electro monitoring system at the Dukovany Nuclear Power Station. These protection relays will replace the current analog protection. The replacement process will start in 2015 and will finish in 2018. Given the overall complexity of the project, this thesis deals only with the following 6 kV switch gears 9BB and 9BD. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part concerns the actual consumption and output of the Dukovany Nuclear Power Station. The following chapters describe the electro monitoring system and GRAF and LOGA software programs that are closely connected with it and that were used in the practical part. The last chapter of the theoretical part deals with the actual replacement of the protection relays of the 6 kV switch gears. Also, it describes a new optical network, which will be set up at the Dukovany Nuclear Power Station as a part of the process of replacement. The segment of the practical part concerns laboratory verification of the data communication of the new protection relays. Next, it describes actions that had to be taken in order to ensure and verify correct functionality of the data communication. This part is followed up by a closely related practical activity, which describes examination and verification of the protection functions of each of the 9BB and 9BD switch gears protection relays.
