No. of bitstreams: 1 DIS_CAIO_DE_CARVALHO_PROENCA_COMPLETO.pdf: 12934991 bytes, checksum: 0fadae01b0300e5c567bc345f1fa6730 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2017-03-27 / Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento Cient?fico e Tecnol?gico - CNPq / Driven by the mood of student movements and workers' strikes, freelancers and contracted photographers sought to occupy spaces and conquer labor rights within newspapers and magazines in the main cities of Brazil during the second half of the 1970s. The objective of this work is to analyze the photographic practice, the internal organization of the photographic staffs, and how similar photo reportages were published in the magazines Veja and Isto? from 1976 to 1979. Based on the use of the visual and oral source, I present to the reader the proposal of each Magazine, focusing on the similarities and differences of the photographic practices and editorial positions of these two journals. The visual confrontation between the two teams marked the atmosphere experienced by photographers in the second half of the 1970s in Brazil. The desire to have more space on the pages, the creation of photo editorials, the search for more freedom of choice of published photographs, better working conditions and the control and ownership of its authorial production began to be debated by the two teams in this period. Understanding how the two photographic teams formed in the magazines makes it possible to understand the different photojournalistic practices of the 1970s, ranging from the photographer's journey to the streets, the development of the negatives, the choice of each photograph, the layout of the magazine pages and the editorial alignment with the use of the image. This dissertation explains the details of this process in order to present to the reader the definition of photojournalism in this period, the format of these two magazines and who worked there to produce a visuality of urban centers in Brazil in the process of political opening in the second half of the 1970s.
