Problematika komunikace se seniory s poruchou sluchu / Communication with elderly people suffering from a hearing disorder

People communicate to understand one another and share information. Speaking is crucial in the course of everyone's entire life. In this thesis, we have focused on the issues related to communication with seniors with a hearing disorder. It is necessary to properly diagnose the hearing disorder using suitable methods of examination, and subsequently propose possible means of therapy and train the patient on use of the hearing aid if necessary. Two objectives were set out, both of which were achieved. Objective 1: Map the effective skills used by nurses when communicating with seniors with a hearing disorder. Objective 2: Determine how unsuitable communication by nurses affects seniors with a hearing disorder. A quantitative and qualitative examination was performed. Within the quantitative examination, 200 questionnaires were handed out, of which 178 properly completed were returned for processing. The qualitative examination consisted of a semi-structured interview of ten seniors with a hearing disorder with the help of technology. We defined three hypotheses. Hypothesis 1: The type of education affects nurses' communication skills with seniors with a hearing disorder. Hypothesis 2: Nurses adhere to the principles of communication with seniors with a hearing disorder. Both hypotheses were confirmed. Hypothesis 3: Nurses consider care for seniors with a hearing disorder to be a burden. The last hypothesis was not confirmed. Three research questions were also defined. Research question 1: How does the current manner of communication by nurses affect seniors with a hearing disorder? Answer 1: The current manner of communication of nurses with seniors with a hearing disorder has a positive effect. Research question 2: How do seniors with a hearing disorder perceive non-verbal communication by nurses? Answer 2: Seniors with a hearing disorder consider the non-verbal communication of nurses to be adequate. Research question 3: What problems do seniors with a hearing disorder encounter when communicating with nurses? Answer 3: The most common problem mentioned by seniors with a hearing disorder was lack of eye contact.

Analýza krizové komunikace maloobchodních řetězců / Analysis of Crisis Communication in Retail Chains

This diploma thesis focuses on an analysis of crisis communication in food retail chains, using pragmatic linguistic methods. In the theoretical part I deal with speech acts theory from the viewpoint of John L. Austin and Emile Benveniste, Grice's Cooperative Principles and the Theory of Argumentation. I use all these methods in analyzing press releases published by retail chains in the case of a negative food affair. I am therefore interested in the way those linguistic tools are used by the authors in the press releases in order to communicate most effectively in a time of crisis, so as to prevent the loss of either costumers or the good name of the company. I will also focus on the most frequent mistakes made by the authors of press releases. The aim of my thesis is to find out whether it is possible to find some repetitive mechanisms used in the communication of different crisis topics. The main hypothesis is that although there are different crisis situations which need to be communicated, communication methods used in individual press releases are similar and they often recur. An investigation into an experiential approach to training in group psychotherapy

High-quality group psychotherapy training is considered more important than ever in the current mental health care environment. With the need for ongoing education and development in the field of group psychotherapy, concern has been raised regarding the lack of group psychotherapy training guidelines for trainee psychologists. Findings from numerous empirical studies show that at present, most training courses often maintain a rather unstructured format for fostering an experiential group process. The literature suggests that without standardized course objectives, students are vulnerable to harm, they are ill equipped to meet professional demands, and trainers are not provided with adequate guidelines for instruction. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to review the relevant literature in order to describe the principles of group psychotherapy as they manifest in group interaction, and to compare the subjective experiences of trainee group psychotherapists with the findings from the literature. The aim of this investigation was to generate hypotheses about the effectiveness of the use of an experiential group as a training medium, in group psychotherapy. Further objectives included exploring the merits of an experiential approach to training in group psychotherapy, and identifying factors that could potentially aid/hinder trainee development. In order to adhere to the objectives of the investigation, a qualitative, exploratory research design was used. Data for the study was gathered by means of a client-centered interview conducted with five group psychotherapy trainees who received training in a Clinical Psychology Masters program. In addition, these trainees were also required to complete a semi-structured questionnaire. The interview focused on how the trainees' subjective, affective experiences influenced their perceptions of the qualitative aspects of group life, while the questionnaire was designed to elicit information about the ways in which trainees cognitively conceptualized their understanding of group process, group dynamics and group facilitation skills. The results of the study were analysed through the qualitative method of content analysis. Results showed that, while trainees may have perceived that they gained tremendous benefits through exposure to the experiential group, an analysis of their interaction patterns highlighted certain areas which can be considered problematic. For example, it was found that trainees did not have a theoretical understanding of group process and group dynamics, and were therefore, not equipped with the necessary skills required to facilitate groups. This is further substantiated by the finding that the group facilitator had a pervasive influence on the development of the individual trainee and on the development of the group as a whole. Furthermore, results obtained raised certain concerns regarding the suitability and adequacy of using an experiential group as a tool for training, in group psychotherapy. The research findings suggest that, while the experiential group may provide the trainee with an invaluable experience, it alone is insufficient as a training method, in group psychotherapy. This study also raises questions about the ethics of such a training program in its current form. One of the major conclusions of this investigation is that there is a need for ongoing research and evaluation of the training programs. Finally, recommendations are made for improving the group psychotherapy training experience. These recommendations are based on the evaluation of the trainees' subjective experiences / Psychology / (M.A.(Clinical Psychology))

Evaluace efektivity práce v zařízení Portus pro osoby s mentálním postižením / An evaluation of work efficiency in Portus, an organisation for people with mental disabilities

This diploma thesis is to acquaint with people with intellectual disability. Basicaly it deals with terminology associated with intelectual disability, definitions, types of intellectual disability, symptoms and causes. One of the chapters is devoted to the principles of communication of people with mental disabilities and auxiliary communication techniques. Next it focuses on Portus organization, which has been working with this target group for over 20 years. It provides several social services, about which we gathered basic information and based them on the law on social services. The last chapter in the theoretical part is devoted to the burnout syndrome, which is in the opinion of helping professions and in social work, not least, a more common phenomenon than we can imagine. The investigation itself took place in the above- mentioned organization, where I distributed questionnaires on satisfaction with the services to several groups of respondents. In the practical part, I evaluated these questionnaires and evaluated them with other services. The evaluation showed that the clients are satisfied with the support provided and the employees and guardians (family members) perceive the situation in a very similar way.
