The effectiveness of the private school in the Johannesburg region for the period 1986-1991

Kadungure, Gordon 04 November 2014 (has links)
M.Ed. (Education) / The private school has become a common feature in black education in recent years. The development of this new education phenomenon can no longer be underest imated and should become a field of concern in the community. The rejection of Bantu Education by the black community and the school boycotts that followed during the 1980s witnessed the emergence of a new type of private school in the Johannesburg Region. commonly known as the "inner-city"/flyby- night/street private school/college. The researcher has observed that a few private schools achieve good standard ten external examination results while the majority do not. The researcher investigates this state of affairs by answering the question: How can the organisational structures be improved and made effective to enhance the positive contribution of the private school? With the support of the State and the community , strong management and administrative procedures should be introduced in the private school.

A marketing strategy for independent schools.

McAlister, David Ronald 14 October 2008 (has links)
M.Ed. / Independent schools in South Africa, over the years, have evoked an intense interest and conversational debate. Their contribution to the educational system and children of South Africa has been enormous and continues to grow on a daily basis. Initially these school were set up through the church system and therefore have been the first schools to incorporate everyone and recognise their fundamental right in terms of freedom of association, religion and culture. Independent schools are increasing in number and continue to form an essential and permanent part of the educational system. Independent education is a complex subject which can be researched from a myriad of perspectives. This study is essentially an enquiry into the marketing of independent schools in South Africa. To this end the study will focus specifically on what school marketing is, what the role of independent schools are within the educational system, the perceptions of an independent school principal to marketing and how to develop a methodology of implementing a marketing strategy for a dynamic marketing process. / Prof. T.C Bischoff

Parkside Christian Academy: a different choice

Owens, Jossie Etta January 2003 (has links)
Thesis (Ed.D.)--Boston University / PLEASE NOTE: Boston University Libraries did not receive an Authorization To Manage form for this thesis or dissertation. It is therefore not openly accessible, though it may be available by request. If you are the author or principal advisor of this work and would like to request open access for it, please contact us at open-help@bu.edu. Thank you. / The purpose of this study was to discover why African-American parents, traditionally supportive of public school education, are seeking private schooling for their children in growing numbers. In particular, this study addressed the question of "What are the factors, variables, or conditions that contribute to African-American parents selecting Parkside Christian Academy as their school of choice?" Both qualitative and quantitative methods were used to find out how and why African-American parents select schools for their children. The findings of this study suggest that parents make choices regarding their children's early elementary school years many times based on the parents' own personal school experiences. As a result ofthe interviews and the survey, a new model called the Parent Concern Model was created. This model has ten dimensions that correspond to factors that might influence the way parents select schools for their children. The ten dimensions that emerged from the twenty qualitative interviews shape and affect the way African-American parents think and select schools. The ten dimensions, identified as the Parent Concern Model were financial concerns, performance concerns, equity concerns, self-esteem concerns, transportation concerns, safety concerns, displacement concerns, teacher concerns, parental involvement concerns, and emotional distress concerns. / 2999-01-01
