Algorithms for an Unmanned Vehicle Path Planning ProblemQin, Jianglei 16 December 2013 (has links)
Unmanned Vehicles (UVs) have been significantly utilized in military and civil applications over the last decade. Path-planning of UVs plays an important role in effectively using the available resources such as the UVs and sensors as efficiently as possible. The main purpose of this thesis is to address two path planning problems involving a single UV.
The two problems we consider are the quota problem and the budget problem. In the quota problem, the vehicle has to visit a sufficient number of targets to satisfy the quota requirement on the total prize collected in the tour. In the budget problem, the vehicle has to comply with a constraint of the distance traveled by the UV. We solve both these problems using a practical heuristic called the prize-multiplier approach. This approach first uses a primal-dual algorithm to first assign the targets to the UV. The Lin – Kernighan Heuristic (LKH) is then applied to generate a tour of the assigned targets for the UV. We tested this approach on two different vehicle models. One model is a simple vehicle which can move in any direction without a constraint on its turning radius. The other model is a Reeds-Shepp vehicle. We also modeled both problems in C++ using the multi-commodity flow formulations, and solved them to optimality by using the Concert Technology of CPLEX.
We used the results generated by CPLEX to determine the quality of the solutions produced by the heuristics. By comparing the objective values of the obtained solutions and the running times of the heuristics and CPLEX, one can conclude that the proposed heuristics produce solutions with good quality to our problems within our desired time limits.

Vývoj a struktura progamingu a jeho význam v současném světě / The development and structure of progaming and its importance in the contemporary worldPuharič, Petr January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this work is to describe progaming scene development since its beginings till present days. Also I would like to focus to progaming importance for current world. To achieve this goal I analyse individual years since 1997 till 2016 and I sumarize state of the current progaming scene. In this work I describe professional players chracteristics and I also describe various game types, some individual games, competitions, tournaments... In analysed years there are described prize money, players counts in tournaments and coutnry origins of players. In conclusion there is shown development of these statistics in the whole analysed period of time. Outcome of the statistics development in time is detailed overview of progaming scene including its current importance.

FOREIGN AID FOR TRADE POLICY REFORMSNanivazo, Malokele 01 August 2011 (has links) (PDF)
The goal of this dissertation is to investigate how foreign aid can be used as means to induce a recipient country to engage in trade policy reforms. For this purpose, we develop a two-good and two-country model where the donor commits to give foreign aid in the first period and disburses in the second period. The donor`s commitment for foreign aid is based on an equation where the volume of foreign aid is a function of the recipient tariff rate. We analyze the donor and the recipient actions in two types of game: a passive donor game and an active donor game. The active donor game has two sub-games: a simultaneous game and a sequential game. This dissertation is composed of two theoretical chapters and one empirical chapter. The two theoretical chapters use a similar theoretical model but they differ on the assumptions we make the recipient country economy. In the first chapter, we assume that the recipient country government is lobbied by interest groups that own its stock of capital. We find evidence that the donor can, under certain conditions, influence the recipient`s trade policy even when interest groups lobby the government. In the second chapter, we assume that the recipient country has borrowing constraints because it faces a quantitative restriction on its borrowing set by the international credit markets. Our results suggest that the recipient engages in trade liberalization depending on the type of games that the recipient and the donor participate. In the third chapter, we ask two questions: First, is the allocation of aid based on trade policy reforms; particularly, trade liberalization? Second, does foreign aid spur economic growth when we take into account the allocation of foreign aid based on trade liberalization? For this purpose, we use a panel data set of 137 countries from 1995 to 2009 which we estimate using the system GMM estimator. We find evidence of a negative relationship between trade liberalization and foreign aid. Our results suggest that foreign aid spurs economic growth.

Initial insights into the impact and implementation of Creating Active Schools in Bradford, UKMorris, Jade L., Chalkley, Anna, Helme, Zoe, Timms, O., Young, Emma, McLoughlin, G.M., Bartholomew, J.B., Daly-Smith, Andy 10 July 2023 (has links)
Yes / Few whole-school physical activity programmes integrate implementation science frameworks within the design, delivery, and evaluation. As a result, knowledge of the key factors that support implementation at scale is lacking. The Creating Active Schools (CAS) programme was co-designed and is underpinned by the Capability, Opportunity, Motivation and Behaviour (COM-B) model and the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR). The study aims to understand the initial impact and implementation of CAS in Bradford over 9 months using McKay's et al.'s (2019) implementation evaluation roadmap.
Focus groups and interviews were conducted with school staff (n = 30, schools = 25), CAS Champions (n = 9), and the CAS strategic lead (n = 1). Qualitative data were analysed both inductively and deductively. The deductive analysis involved coding data into a priori themes based on McKay et al's implementation evaluation roadmap, using a codebook approach to thematic analysis. The inductive analysis included producing initial codes and reviewing themes before finalising.
Identified themes aligned into three categories: (i) key ingredients for successful adoption and implementation of CAS, (ii) CAS implementation: challenges and solutions, and (iv) the perceived effectiveness of CAS at the school level. This included the willingness of schools to adopt and implement whole-school approaches when they are perceived as high quality and aligned with current school values. The programme implementation processes were seen as supportive; schools identified and valued the step-change approach to implementing CAS long-term. Formal and informal communities of practice provided "safe spaces" for cross-school support. Conversely, challenges persisted with gaining broader reach within schools, school staff's self-competence and shifting school culture around physical activity. This resulted in varied uptake between and within schools.
This study provides novel insights into the implementation of CAS, with outcomes aligning to the adoption, reach, and sustainability. Successful implementation of CAS was underpinned by determinants including acceptability, intervention complexity, school culture and school stakeholders' perceived self-efficacy. The combination of McKay's evaluation roadmap and CFIR establishes a rigorous approach for evaluating activity promotion programmes underpinned by behavioural and implementation science. Resultantly this study offers originality and progression in understanding the implementation and effectiveness of whole-school approaches to physical activity. / Higher Education Innovation Fund (UKRI), Sport England’s Local Delivery Pilot in Bradford, Bradford District Metropolitan Council via the Living Well Programme / Research Development Fund Publication Prize Award winner, Jun 2023.
