1	"All Our Work is Political": Men's Experience in Pro-feminist Organizing Bojin, Kate 28 November 2012 (has links) This research project examines the personal and political experiences of five men engaged in pro-feminist organizing. Their experiences are explored in the context of the emergence of anti- feminist groups, and an increasingly volatile funding environment whereby women’s rights organizations are seeing their financial resources threatened. Using a critical and sociological approach to masculinities, significant challenges at the personal level for these pro-feminist men are examined and are shown to compound engagement with women feminists, and the potential of cross gender partnerships. A people-oriented qualitative approach is employed to capture men’s personal journeys and how they self- identify with the feminist movement. This research adds to the prevalent “Man Question”, contesting men’s engagement in the feminist movement. Ultimately, however, the thesis concludes that men’s engagement in the feminist movement needs to be clearly positioned as a political project with an explicit commitment to building alliances with women’s rights networks. pro-feminist organizing masculinity feminism 0453

5	Reclaiming a Pro-Feminist Orientation in Adlerian Therapy Bitter, James, Robertson, P., Healey, A., Cole, L. 01 January 2009 (has links) Adler (1931, 1938) adopted and defended a decidedly pro feminist perspective in Individual Psychology. Without question , he was the first mainstream psychologist of the 20th century to address the alleged inferiority of women and the myth of masculine superiority. During his lifetime, feminism was still in its first wave, its first phase of development. It would be another 50 years before feminism evolved into a psycho therapeutic model. Currently, the emphasis on women's issues in Adlerian therapy depends largely on the practitioner's interest in making women's issues a focus of counseling or therapy. This article reviews earlier Adlerian scholarship in an effort to reclaim a pro feminist orientation for Individual Psychology and suggests a process for integrating feminist and Adlerian therapies. 6	A constructivist approach to challenging men’s violence against women Laming, Chris January 2005 (has links) This PhD by project consists of a Manual for workers engaged in men’s behaviour change programs and a dissertation that theorises the principles underpinning the approach. The Manual and the dissertation examine a constructivist approach to challenging men’s violence against women. / The project, which is situated in rural Australia, is called the Men’s SHED (Self Help Ending Domestics) Project. The SHED Manual is based on a constructivist approach to men’s violence against women that reflects best practice principles within a profeminist framework. The Manual is comprised of eight sections that articulate various aspects of challenging men’s violence against women, with individuals, groups and communities. The dissertation details the journey of the project from its inception in 1994 to the beginning of 2002. / Personal construct theory provides a philosophical basis for the approach being enunciated in this study and it enables an exploration of constructive alternatives in engaging and challenging men towards behaviour change. As such, it is utilised both in engaging men to become non-violent and at the same time, reflexively enabling workers and facilitators to examine ways in which they can construct more effective ways for this to happen. The project is thus one of hopeful anticipation leading to new constructive alternatives in the endeavour to stop men’s violence against women.
7	The subversion of patriarchy: exploring pastoral care with men in the Church of the Province of South Africa on the East Rand Bannerman, David Hugh 30 November 2007 (has links) This dissertation is concerned with pastoral care with men in the Anglican Church. It is grounded in the rapidly changing post-apartheid years in the East Rand region of South Africa. It seeks to explore through participatory action research the negative effects of patriarchy as a discourse of power and entitlement on the lives of men of differing cultures in South Africa as victims and perpetrators of abuse. It also seeks to explore ways of pastorally caring with men through the creation of participative care groups that enable personal stories of men to be told, invitations to responsibility for abuse made, and the negative effects of patriarchal cultural and theological discourse deconstructed, and alternate understandings of masculinity constructed and performed. The work is done from a contextual theology, pro-feminist perspective, and collaborating with postmodern philosophers Derrida and Foucault, the social anthropologist Bruner and the narrative therapists White, Epston and Jenkins. / Practical Theology / M.
