A model driven methodology to measure the Level of Application of Management Process (LAMP) in manufacturing enterprise

Shamim, Khalid January 2013 (has links)
Increasingly Manufacturing Enterprises (MEs) need to perform competitively to survive in today s global markets. This thesis investigates the notion that competitive product realisation is not simply dependent on deploying state of the art operational and infrastructural support processes but also depends upon the adoption of management processes that ensure efficient and effective use of human and non human resources. Having an experience of more than two decades working in a public sector ME located in Pakistan the author has observed that improvements in timelines, quality and profit begins from measurement; followed by goal, problem & solution understanding, then planning and control of needed change. Therefore, a desire to enhance best practice qualitative and quantitative measurement of management processes triggered and focussed this research. Consequently the aim of this research has been to contribute to knowledge by using state of the art modelling techniques to structure and enable quantitative measurement of management processes within MEs. Subsequent research of the author has conceived, implemented and case tested a modelling methodology that is designed to measure the Level of Application of Management Process (LAMP) in pursuit of ME productivity improvement. In order to achieve the aim of this research, a semi generic model of management processes deployed in MEs was defined and explicitly modelled by using an ISO Enterprise Modelling technique. The definition of this semi-generic model was realised consequent upon (1) a literature review and (2) conducting semi-structured interviews with experts (n=42) in three public sector MEs located in Pakistan. Use of the Enterprise Modelling technique enabled decomposition and classification of management processes into so called Domain Processes, which subsequently were explicitly defined as Business Processes at a more detailed level of modelling abstraction. Then during subsequent research the author conceived and developed the use of a methodology to apply a LAMP scorecard the use of which was tested whilst conducting structured interviews with project managers (n=25) in three public sector MEs located in Pakistan that operate on project oriented management structures. The case study results partially validated the fitness for purpose of the model driven measurement methodology, identified opportunities for future methodological research and illustrated how LAMP identified and enabled measurements can help to define, quantify and direct potential opportunities for ME enhancement.

Application Of Statistical Process Control To Software Development Processes Via Control Charts

Sargut, Kamil Umut 01 January 2003 (has links) (PDF)
The application of Statistical Process Control (SPC) to software processes has been a challenging issue for software engineers and researchers. Although SPC is suggested for providing process control and achieving higher process maturity levels, there are very few resources that describe success stories, implementation details, and implemented guidelines for applying SPC to specific metrics. In this thesis the findings of a case study that is performed for investigating the applicability of SPC to software metrics in an emergent CMM Level 3 software organization are presented. As being one of the basic and most sophisticated tools of SPC, control charts are used for the analysis. The difficulties in application of Statistical Process Control to a CMM Level 3 organization are observed by using the existing data of defect density, rework percentage, productivity and review performance metrics and relevant suggestions are provided for dealing with them. Finally the analysis results are summarized and a guideline is prepared for software companies who want to utilize control charts by using their existing metric data.

Vliv vybraných faktorů na výkonnost pracovníků / Influence of selected Factors on the Performance of Workers

Nekutová, Tereza January 2013 (has links)
This thesis deals with impact of the chosen factors on the performance of employees. It describes performance itself, productivity and difference between them. It examines factors which can have impact on the performance. There are analyzed different ways of evaluation of working performance and productivity and examined possible ways of performance management. There is analyzed which factors have impact on performance in chosen organization where research was made, using logistic regression. There are presented results of research and analyzed impact in practice. Finally it suggests possible solution and recommendation for management of the organization.

Propuesta de un proceso básico de gestión de planeamiento y control enfocado en la producción de cacao fino de aroma para mejorar la productividad de los productores de la provincia de La Convención, Cusco

Milla Contreras, Walter Diego, Onofre Vila, Kelly Jazmín 21 August 2019 (has links)
This thesis consists in the exploratory investigation of the production of fine aroma cocoa in the province of La Convención, department of Cusco, developed in the period of 1 year, from July 2016 to July 2017. The diagnosis of the research was obtained through in-depth interviews with 33 cocoa producers and the Alto Urubamba Cooperative. As first results, it was possible to identify that the production activities are empirical and that they have been inherited from their ancestors, have one of the lowest yields equivalent to 246 kg / hectare, there is no efficient distribution of cocoa trees that allows their sustainability over time, more than 80% of the producers do not carry out the fermentation activity but do the drying process obtaining conventional cocoa, the remaining 20% if they comply with the post-harvest process, producing a fine aroma cocoa, the producers will they are in the poverty line with monthly income equivalent to approximately S/ 350.00 nuevo soles. To address this problem, our research proposes a management model by process of Planning and Production Control that would ensure that 100% of the production is of fine aroma cocoa, increase its productivity by more than 50%, improve its yield to more than 1000 kg / hectare through an Agroforestry System and would generate approximate per capita income of S/344.00 nuevo soles, allowing producers to be located outside the poverty line. / Tesis
