Commande optimale d'un processus de mélange

Desilets, Gilles January 1968 (has links)

Collin, Christian 20 November 2023 (has links)
This dissertation addresses the use of instructional robotics in secondary school classrooms by answering the research question: "What are student's perceptions of the influence of educational robotics on the use of a problem-solving approach with 4ᵗʰ Secondary level mathematics students?" There's much study in the literature to support the use of educational robotics and problem solving in the classroom to help students solve problems. Research was carried out with 4ᵗʰ Secondary level students to gather their perceptions after completing a four periods workshop on educational robotics used with the Arduino platform. Programming was carried out using the Tinkercad interface, which enables programming using the Scratch language virtually. Students had to complete seven challenges using their knowledge and some notions of algorithms. Following the workshop, students were asked to answer two mathematical questions before completing a questionnaire. The participant's responses enabled us to understand how they perceived the activity, raising advantages to use educational robotics, without understanding the merits. The participants were able to identify elements enabling us to say that learning programming helped them to solve problems, but for their part, they didn't necessarily perceive a clear improvement in their problem-solving ability. This research is therefore in line with the actual literature, i.e. that problem-solving, programming and educational robotics are elements that can help students when they need to use a problem-solving approach.

Stochastic approach to Brokering heuristics for computational grids / Approche stochastique d'heuristiques de méta-ordonnancement dans les grilles de calcul

Berten, Vandy 08 June 2007 (has links)
Computational Grids are large infrastructures composed of several components such as clusters, or massively parallel machines, generally spread across a country or the world, linked together through some network such as Internet, and allowing a transparent access to any resource. Grids have become unavoidable for a large part of the scientific community requiring computational power such as high-energy physics, bioinformatics or earth observation. Large projects are emerging, often at an international level, but even if Grids are on the way of being efficient and user-friendly systems, computer scientists and engineers still have a huge amount of work to do in order to improve their efficiency. Amongst a large number of problems to solve or to improve upon, the problem of scheduling the work and balancing the load is of first importance.

This work concentrates on the way the work is dispatched on such systems, and mainly on how the first level of scheduling – generally name brokering, or meta-sheduling – is performed. We deeply analyze the behavior of popular strategies, compare their efficiency, and propose a new very efficient brokering policy providing notable performances, attested by the large number of simulations we performed and provided in the document.

The work is mainly split in two parts. After introducing the mathematical framework on which the following of the manuscript is based, we study systems where the grid brokering is done without any feed-back information, i.e. without knowing the current state of the clusters when the resource broker – the grid component receiving jobs from clients and performing the brokering – makes its decision. We show here how a computational grid behaves if the brokering is done is such a way that each cluster receives a quantity of work proportional to its computational capacity.

The second part of this work is rather independent from the first one, and consists in the presentation of a brokering strategy, based on Whittle's indices, trying to minimize as much as possible the average sojourn time of jobs. We show how efficient the proposed strategy is for computational grids, compared to the ones popular in production systems. We also show its robustness to several parameter changes, and provide several very efficient algorithms allowing to make the required computations for this index policy. We finally extend our model in several directions.

Li, Yuan 15 March 2017 (has links)
In carrier collaboration, multiple carriers form an alliance to exchange their delivery requests for the purpose of improving profitability. In this thesis, we have studied the collaborative transportation planning (CTP) among less-than-truckload (LTL) carriers. More concretely, we have studied three sub-problems raised in this collaborative planning: the pickup and delivery problem with time windows, profits, and reserved requests (PDPTWPR), the winner determination problem (WDP) in carrier collaboration via combinatorial exchange (CE), and the bid generation problem (BGP).These sub-problems are the key issues for collaborative transportation planning among carriers, and they are rarely studied in the literature. We have established new mathematical programming models for these problems and developed efficient heuristics to find solutions close to their optimums in a reasonable computational time. The heuristics proposed are more efficient than commercial solvers (GUROBI, CPLEX) not only in terms of solution quality, but also in terms of computation time.

Mathematical programming approaches to pricing problems

Violin, Alessia 18 December 2014 (has links)
There are many real cases where a company needs to determine the price of its products so as to maximise its revenue or profit.
To do so, the company must consider customers' reactions to these prices, as they may refuse to buy a given product or service if its price is too high. This is commonly known in literature as a pricing problem.
This class of problems, which is typically bilevel, was first studied in the 1990s and is NP-hard, although polynomial algorithms do exist for some particular cases. Many questions are still open on this subject.

The aim of this thesis is to investigate mathematical properties of pricing problems, in order to find structural properties, formulations and solution methods that are as efficient as possible. In particular, we focus our attention on pricing problems over a network. In this framework, an authority owns a subset of arcs and imposes tolls on them, in an attempt to maximise his/her revenue, while users travel on the network, seeking for their minimum cost path.

First, we provide a detailed review of the state of the art on bilevel pricing problems.
Then, we consider a particular case where the authority is using an unit toll scheme on his/her subset of arcs, imposing either the same toll on all of them, or a toll proportional to a given parameter particular to each arc (for instance a per kilometre toll). We show that if tolls are all equal then the complexity of the problem is polynomial, whereas in case of proportional tolls it is pseudo-polynomial.
We then address a robust approach taking into account uncertainty on parameters. We solve some polynomial cases of the pricing problem where uncertainty is considered using an interval representation.

Finally, we focus on another particular case where toll arcs are connected such that they constitute a path, as occurs on highways. We develop a Dantzig-Wolfe reformulation and present a Branch-and-Cut-and-Price algorithm to solve it. Several improvements are proposed, both for the column generation algorithm used to solve the linear relaxation and for the branching part used to find integer solutions. Numerical results are also presented to highlight the efficiency of the proposed strategies. This problem is proved to be APX-hard and a theoretical comparison between our model and another one from the literature is carried out.

Neamatian Monemi, Rahimeh 02 December 2014 (has links)
Linear Ordering Problem (LOP) has receive significant attention in different areas of application, ranging from transportation and scheduling to economics and even archeology and mathematical psychology. It is classified as a NP-hard problem. Assume a complete weighted directed graph on V n , |V n |= n. A permutation of the elements of this finite set of vertices is a linear order. Now let p be a given fixed integer number, 0 ≤ p ≤ n. The p-Fixed Cardinality Linear Ordering Problem (FCLOP) is looking for a subset of vertices containing p nodes and a linear order on the nodes in S. Graphically, there exists exactly one directed arc between every pair of vertices in an LOP feasible solution, which is also a complete cycle-free digraph and the objective is to maximize the sum of the weights of all the arcs in a feasible solution. In the FCLOP, we are looking for a subset S ⊆ V n such that |S|= p and an LOP on these S nodes. Hence the objective is to find the best subset of the nodes and an LOP over these p nodes that maximize the sum of the weights of all the arcs in the solution. Graphically, a feasible solution of the FCLOP is a complete cycle-free digraph on S plus a set of n − p vertices that are not connected to any of the other vertices. There are several studies available in the literature focused on polyhedral aspects of the linear ordering problem as well as various exact and heuristic solution methods. The fixed cardinality linear ordering problem is presented for the first time in this PhD study, so as far as we know, there is no other study in the literature that has studied this problem. The linear ordering problem is already known as a NP-hard problem. However one sees that there exist many instances in the literature that can be solved by CPLEX in less than 10 seconds (when p = n), but once the cardinality number is limited to p (p < n), the instance is not anymore solvable due to the memory issue. We have studied the polytope corresponding to the FCLOP for different cardinality values. We have identified dimension of the polytope, proposed several classes of valid inequalities and showed that among these sets of valid inequalities, some of them are defining facets for the FCLOP polytope for different cardinality values. We have then introduced a Relax-and-Cut algorithm based on these results to solve instances of the FCLOP. To solve the instances of the problem, in the beginning, we have applied the Lagrangian relaxation algorithm. We have studied different relaxation strategies and compared the dual bound obtained from each case to detect the most suitable subproblem. Numerical results show that some of the relaxation strategies result better dual bound and some other contribute more in reducing the computational time and provide a relatively good dual bound in a shorter time. We have also implemented a Lagrangian decomposition algorithm, decom-6 posing the FCLOP model to three subproblems (instead of only two subproblems). The interest of decomposing the FCLOP model to three subproblems comes mostly from the nature of the three subproblems, which are relatively quite easier to solve compared to the initial FCLOP model. Numerical results show a significant improvement in the quality of dual bounds for several instances. We could also obtain relatively quite better dual bounds in a shorter time comparing to the other relaxation strategies. We have proposed a cutting plane algorithm based on the pure relaxation strategy. In this algorithm, we firstly relax a subset of constraints that due to the problem structure, a very few number of them are active. Then in the course of the branch-and-bound tree we verify if there exist any violated constraint among the relaxed constraints or. Then the characterized violated constraints will be globally added to the model. (...)
