JANEČKOVÁ, Pavlína January 2018 (has links)
Objective: The aim of the research section is to map the awareness and professional approach of non-medical healthcare workers to mothers who have experienced psychological changes after childbirth. The first objective was to determine the knowledge of non-medical healthcare workers in the area of mental changes in mothers. The second objective concerned the professional experience of the interviewed mothers with psychological changes. The third objective was to map out the professional approach to these mothers. The ultimate goal was to focus on the professional experience of non-medical psychiatrists in the care of children. The way of achieving the objective: For research, we have chosen a qualitative research strategy. We used the data collection method using a semi-structured interview. The interviews provided were recorded on the dictaphone, overwritten, and the pencil and paper coding techniques were organized into categories. 4 categories were interviewed with psychiatric nurses, 5 categories were interviewed with midwives interviews and 5 interviews with nurses. The selection of respondents was intentional. The research was conducted in two health facilities between February and March 2018. We were given 15 interviews in total. The knowledges gained and their conclusions: Research has shown that knowledge, along with the professional approach of the nurses surveyed, is sufficient to be able to detect the onset of postpartum depression or other mental disorders. Certain uncertainty was expressed by nurses in the field of access to mothers. More seminars on psychological change in mothers after delivery would be appreciated. Scientific benefits: The paper maps the knowledge of non-medical healthcare professionals and areas that should be improved in practice. This is an area of communication and work with mothers with psychic changes. The work can be used in the field of neonatology and psychiatry.

Social support as psychological mediator among African black women who have recently given birth

Mbatha, Khonzanani 11 1900 (has links)
Women’s procreative capacities and the appreciation of birth experiences have always been recognised in civil society and the early days of psychology. Given that our culture is one that emphasises a woman’s capacity to bear children as one of the greatest social achievements, the social responsibility to procreate and ensure collective survival becomes a potent mandate, especially so for Black African women. To fulfil this social responsibility, traditional African culture dictates a very specific process of pregnancy which involves a series of watershed moments, each of which requires that social support, of whatever form, should be available. This study explored the role that social support from significant others and health professionals play in mediating psychological issues during pregnancy, childbirth and postnatally among Black African women in Madadeni Township in KwaZulu-Natal. The study was rooted in the interpretive, qualitative paradigm and a phenomenological research design was used. Purposive sampling was used to select participants who were aged from 18 to 25 years with a baby older than two weeks but less than six months. Semi structured interviews were conducted in the mother tongue of the participants until the point of saturation where no new information arose from the six participants interviewed. Thematic content analysis was used to extract recurrent themes across participants. The results indicate that social support, especially from parents and partners, plays a defining role in helping women to cope with the stress experienced during pregnancy, childbirth and postnatally. / Psychology / M.A. (Psychology: Research Consultation)
