Magistrantų psichologinis pasirengimas tolesnei akademinei karjerai / Psychological readiness of Master’s degree students for further academic career

Leonavičiūtė, Inga 29 June 2006 (has links)
Inga Leonavičiūtė Paper for Master’s degree Psychological readiness of Master’s degree students for further academic career Psychological career readiness includes obtaining of personal, professional, educational and social competence, ability to assume responsibility for one’s activity and to purposefully act in changing situation, i.e. it determines the further career development. Career readiness assessment is important for a person while choosing occupational activities and making choice in favour or prejudice of a career since it allows better understanding of one’s intentions and thus facilitates the decision-making process. The aim of investigations was to analyse the psychological readiness for academic career of students doing their Master’s degree in Psychology. The objectives of the investigations were as follows: 1. To reveal the approach to studies of the students doing their Master’s degree in psychology. 2. To analyse students’ attitudes towards their professional future. 3. To compare the assessment of readiness for academic career of the students doing their Master’s degree in Vilnius Pedagogical University, Vilnius University and Mykolas Riomeris University. 4. To elucidate how the students conceive the academic career. 5. To compare the peculiarities of the approach to academic career readiness of the full-timers to that of the external students. 6. To assess the interdependence between the satisfaction from the studies and the self-assessment of the... [to full text]

Readiness, resilience, and readjustment: a psychological investigation of human factors across the deployment cycle of contemporary peace support operations

Murphy, Peter Joseph January 2008 (has links)
Contemporary peacekeeping missions are complex, demanding, and potentially hazardous. There is general agreement that psychological factors are crucial to effective individual and collective performance of the military personnel deployed in support of these missions. This research has examined the human dimensions associated with capability, functioning, and health across the deployment cycle. The aim of this research was to increase understanding of the psychological issues associated with peace support operations at the individual, group, and organisational levels. The study applied precepts of the transactional model of stress (Lazarus & Folkman, 1984) to the context of military deployment on peace support operations. The overarching Human Dimensions of Operations model for this research incorporated stressor, buffer, and outcome components within the multi-level structure of the military organisation and across the stages (pre, peri, post) of deployment. Participants were Canadian and Australian military personnel deployed on Peace Support Operations. The dissertation comprised seven chapters. Chapter One provided an introduction to the psychological challenges posed by peace support operations and the research opportunities these missions afford. The second chapter detailed the methodology and psychometric evaluation of several measurement scales that were developed as part of this research in order to address the unique characteristics of peace support operations. Each of the six scales examined proved to have a meaningful component structure and adequate subscale reliabilities. The third chapter was devoted to an examination of the psychometric properties of a measure of psychological climate factors, the Unit Climate Profile (UCP), which was the cornerstone instrument of this research. The UCP demonstrated a robust, multi-dimensional structure that was conceptually concordant with its theoretical development and design. In addition, the component structure of the UCP changed in meaningful ways according to its level of analysis - individual or group. The next three chapters examined human dimension constructs at different stages of deployment, notably psychological readiness for operations, psychological resilience during deployment, and readjustment following return from deployment. In Chapter Four, the most compelling structural model that examined collective psychological readiness demonstrated that perceptions of readiness at the group level, along with effective senior leadership, could significantly impact morale. The results in Chapter Five revealed that leadership both buffered the immediate impact of stressors, and also fostered meaning and morale, thereby reducing strain. Positive aspects of deployment and the personal meaning assumed to be derived from these experiences were also found to bolster morale significantly during deployment. In Chapter Six, the stressors specific to the postdeployment transition phase, rather than stressors encountered during deployment, had the strongest impact on postdeployment adjustment. Social support and a positive psychological climate in the unit (particularly evidenced by cohesiveness and caring behaviour by proximal leaders) moderated the impact of homecoming stressors. A concluding chapter summarised the dissertation and discussed its practical significance and avenues for the dissemination of its findings. Broadly, the outcomes demonstrated that an understanding of the human factors in military units within the context of the stressors-strain relationship can provide potentially useful information to commanders who want to enhance the well-being, performance, and commitment of Service members deployed on peace support operations. / http://proxy.library.adelaide.edu.au/login?url= http://library.adelaide.edu.au/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?BBID=1331630 / Thesis (Ph.D.) -- School of Psychology, 2008

Research of psychological readiness of young people for family life

В., Prikhodko, A. V. January 2020 (has links)
Theoretical, psychodiagnostic and statistical methods were used in this work. The following methods were used: questionnaire «Moral readiness for marriage» (E. K. Pogodina); questionnaire «measuring attitudes in a married couple» (Yu. E.Aleshina); methodology «Role expectations and claims in marriage (ROP)» by A. N. Volkov; test-questionnaire of marriage satisfaction by V. V. Stolin. In the result, it was found that psychological readiness for family life is sex-specific, in particular women are more ready for marriage than men, experience in seed life is not the main factor that affects the psychological readiness for family life.

Lassman, Matthew 11 1900 (has links)
Athletes returning to sport following a concussion are deemed ‘ready’ once they have completed a six-step process that increases in physical and cognitive exertion. However, this process largely overlooks psychosocial factors involved in returning to sport following a concussion. This qualitative study used a narrative methodology underpinned by a constructivist philosophical position to understand 12 (n = 6 females) formerly concussed Canadian university student-athletes’ perceptions of the factors they believed were involved in feeling psychologically ready to return to sport. Participants were aged 18 to 25 years during their concussion and experienced a minimum of one-month absence from sports. Each athlete participated in two Zoom interviews (interview 1: M = 103 min; interview 2: M = 88 min). The data was analyzed using creative non-fiction. Six themes were interpreted from the data: confidence, fear, identity, pressure, support, and case-by-case. Two composite narratives were written to depict the themes involved in psychological readiness. Pierre-Olivier’s story portrays the thoughts, emotions, and interactions of a second-year university men’s ice hockey player who was ready to return to sport and experienced successful outcomes. Pierre-Olivier’s story focuses on his growing readiness leading up to his first game following his medical clearance. Andrea’s story portrays a women’s rugby captain who was not ready to return to sport and experienced an unsuccessful return to sport. Andrea’s story depicts a flashback to a conversation with her doctor during her medical clearance and her interactions with a former teammate seeking advice. This study is among the first to examine psychological readiness among concussed athletes. These results indicate a need for a more holistic assessment of concussed athletes to help identify who is (and who is not) ready to return to sport following a concussion.
