Vliv typu bydlení na třídění odpadu - modelová studie Písecko / Impact of type of housing on waste recycling - case study of the Písek region

VACKOVÁ, Jana January 2018 (has links)
My thesis aims to clarify issues regarding waste sorting and the willingness of the population according to the type of their residence to sort waste. The theoretical part focuses on waste management in the Czech Republic and neighbouring countries. The main objective was to describe the waste management in the Písek region. I concentrated on the description of particular technologies, especially recycling. Another chapter describes the relationship of the population to waste sorting, as human behaviour and lifestyle are the main causes of environmental damage. Recycling may be the right way to decrease the negative impact of human society on the environment. The practical part presents the results of the quantitative research conducted by means of a questionnaire. According to the respondents´ answers, I was able to conclude the differences of waste separation between the town and village. From the total of 247 respondents, 80 % sort the waste, 16 % sometimes sort it, and 4 % never do so. The categories of respondents differ in the amount of waste sorting, however, the difference is not statistically significant (Chi Squared test = 2,075; s. v. = 4; p = 0,722). Depending on the type of residence, the highest percentage 87 % - of waste sorting occurs in the housing estate category and zero percentage of respondents in this category never sorts. I was also concerned with the difference in the degree of sorting of individual commodities depending on the type of residence. It is significant only in the amount of sorting hazardous waste (Chi Squared test = 18,5; s. v. = 4; p = 0,001). In the case of other commodities, the type of residence does not affect the amount of their separation. It is obvious that the type of build-up area affects the way of life of the population and thus the amount of waste they produce. In general, the degree of diversity in respondents´ waste sorting depends on their education, experience, life priorities and public awareness of waste management.

Využití a zneužití ionizujícího a neionizujícího záření / The use and misuse of ionizing and non- ionizing radiation

MAJEROVÁ, Natálie January 2018 (has links)
This dissertation is divided in two parts: a theoretical, and a practical one. The purpose of the theoretical part is to introduce the reader to the elementary terms of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, their types, sources, influence on humans, as well as possible manners of their use and abuse. The goal of the thesis is to evaluate possible use and abuse of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. In the interest of clarity, the gathered information was included in the results chapter as a chart. The practical part deals primarily with the first research question whose aim was to establish the level of public awareness about ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. To get answers, the method of data collection by means of a questionnaire survey was employed. The questionnaire consisted of 19 questions in total. The first 3 questions split the respondents into categories based on their gender, age, and educational attainment. The main part of the questionnaire involved 12 closed-ended questions, evaluated by a test. The survey was concluded by 4 opened-ended questions. The questionnaire survey provided a multitude of findings, most importantly that the average public awareness of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation is 57.7%. Finally, the discussion part answers the second research question which sought to determine whether there's a greater danger of ionizing radiation sources being abused.

Informationsspridning om invasiva främmande arter : En enkätstudie om fastighetsägares kunskap om invasiva arter och hur man når ut med information / Information dissemination of invasive alien species : A study on Swedish property owners’ knowledge of invasive species and how to reach out with information

Nilsson, Sara January 2023 (has links)
Invasive alien species are a growing threat globally that causes negative effects on the environment, economy and human health. Part of the solution is to involve the public to help reduce the spread. The aim of this study was to examine the public knowledge and to analyze people's reactions when they receive information about invasive species. Further I analyze the information dissemination method used by the county board of Västerbotten and examine whether there was any difference between the property owner’s responses depending on what type of invasive species they had on their property. A survey was designed to acquire information from property owners in Västerbotten county who had an information letter by the Swedish authorities in 2021 about invasive species on their property. The survey was sent to 123 property owners and the response rate was 49%. The survey didn’t show any significant difference between the property owner’s responses depending on what kind of invasive species they had. Results showed that the majority of the respondents considered the information letter helpful and a large percentage had taken action to combat the invasive species after receiving the letter. The results showed that the property owner's knowledge increased after receiving the information letter. In conclusion, the study shows that information letters are an effective method for property owners to take action and increase their knowledge of invasive species.

Cine-med-ucation and dementia: Whatever happened to representation theory?

Capstick, Andrea, Ludwin, Katherine January 2009 (has links)
This paper is concerned with a variety of contemporary representations of dementia in both mainstream made-for-box-office cinema and in TV soap and drama. Such representations frequently draw on familiar tropes of global memory loss, violence and aggression, extreme dependency on heroic carers, catastrophic prognosis, and early death. Whilst such narrative devices may be excusable to some extent in film made for purposes of entertainment, the producers have considerable responsibility for public awareness and understandings of dementia, which, we would argue, should be discharged in a socially responsible way, rather than purely in order to achieve dramatic effect. Moreover, it has been widely argued in recent years (eg Alexander et al 2005) that film of this nature can be used ¿as it stands¿ in the education of health and social care practitioners. Instead, we would argue that students and practitioners need to learn the basic principles of representation theory, in order to understand and critique how film works to influence and socially construct views of health, illness and regimes of truth around them, paying central attention always to the question of whose interests are served by the representation in question.

Role of Limpopo Provincial Legislature in promoting public awareness activities in the Fetakgomo Local Municipality

Maruma, Johannes Matjiekane January 2011 (has links)
Thesis (MPA) -- University of Limpopo, 2011 / The study explores the role of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature in promoting public awareness activities at the Fetakgomo Local Municipality. The study reveals that lack of awareness about the activities of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature has been identified. The study critically analyzed method and models of public participation and the role of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature in terms promoting public awareness activities. The findings of the study will assist the Legislature with interventions that are necessary for the improvement of public awareness activities. The study concluded that the Limpopo Provincial Legislature had not created an enabling environment for meaningful community participation, and had consequently limited the impact of community engagement on the Legislature activities. As a result, guidelines and recommendations were proposed for public awareness activities.

Informovanost obyvatelstva o ropné nouzi na území Jihočeského kraje / Public awareness about the oil shortage in the South Bohemian region

VACEK, Jan January 2018 (has links)
The diploma thesis is focused on the assessment of the level of public awareness on the issue of oil shortage in the territory of the South Bohemian Region and the comparsion of the obtained data with the results obtained in the region of Pilsen. The results of this research are linked to the second objective of proposing measures to improve the information system on the given issue. For the needs of the thesis, quantitative research was chosen as a questionnaire survey. The questionnaire itself consists of 17 semi closed questions, with 3 filtering questions in the introduction, ranking respondents by sex, age and municipality, followed by 14 specific questions. The purpose of the research is to determine the level of public awareness of possible regulatory measures related to the declaration of the state of oil shortage, focusing on fuel shortages, powers of state administration and self-government authorities and a general overview of the oil security of the Czech Republic. The data obtained suggest that the average knowledge of the correct answers averages around 65 % on average, but succes rates vary from 30 to 94 %. Questions with a low average success of the right answers are potential topics for improving awareness, for example through short TV spots, training courses, or information brochures. The diploma thesis can be used for educational purposes as a starting material for follow-up research, or it can serve as an inspiration for finding a suitable way of communicating with the public in the field of crisis management.

Úroveň povědomí obyvatelstva o problematice rozsáhlých výpadků elektrické energie / The level of awareness of inhabitants about the problems of large-scale electrical power failures

HAJDAJOVÁ, Natálie January 2018 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with large-scale electrical power failures, in other words about blackouts. The work is then divided into two sections. The theoretical part describes the (critical) infrastructure, which is undoubtedly part of the electrical energy, further introduces the reader to the electricity system of the Czech Republic and also with blackout as such. The last chapter analyzes some important outages in the world and in total of eight blackouts and trying to point out how technical defects, control errors or extreme weather manifestation can negatively affect the lives of each of us. In the practical part are mentioned two objectives. The first, main aim of the diploma thesis is to find out and assess the level of knowledge of inhabitants about the problems of large-scale electrical power failures, with a hypothesis claims that awareness of the population in selected municipalities with extended competence does not reach 80 %. The exploration is carried out on two municipalities with extended competence Uherské Hradiště and České Budějovice. Obtained data are then evaluated by a comparative approach. Based on the results of the research, remedies are being suggested, purpose of the remedies is to improve the system of informing the population about the subject matter. This is the second objective. According to the objectives and for the needs of my thesis, I used the method of collecting data in the form of a questionnaire survey which carries elements of quantitative research. The thesis and its results can serve as a study material which could be further used for other research. Also it may be inspired by considering how to improve the awareness of the inhabitants.
