Michael Kácha a česká literatura / Michael Kácha and Czech LiteratureMachková, Barbora January 2015 (has links)
This thesis presents the personality of Michael Kácha, anarchist editor and publisher. Biographical sketch shows not only his editorial activity and journalism (for instance in journals Práce, Zádruha, Mladý průkopník, Klíčení) and his work as a publisher (Družstvo Kniha, Kacha Verlag), but pays attention also to his activities within workers' and anarchist, respectively anarcho-communist organizations, which is inextricably connected with his literary activity. A bibliography of texts of Michael Kácha and a list of books published with his participation is the part of this thesis.

Lack Of Gender Bias In Citation Rates Of Publications By Dendrochronologists: What is Unique About This Discipline?Copenheaver, Carolyn A., Goldbeck, Kyrille, Cherubini, Paolo 07 1900 (has links)
Most academic disciplines have a gender bias that exists in the recognition of research
publications: women’s publications are cited at lower rates than men’s publications. In this paper, we examined whether a similar gender bias existed for publications by dendrochronologists. Tree-ring research is a fairly small field where males outnumber females, and therefore the sample size was limited to 20 female dendrochronologists and 20 male dendrochronologists. It was determined that native language (English or non-native English speaker), current employment (government or academic), and gender of the first-author do not significantly influence a paper’s probability of being cited. However, years since dissertation completion was a good predictor of a paper’s citation rate. We suggest that the high productivity of female dendrochronologists and a pattern of co-authoring with male colleagues bring the work of females to the attention of their male colleagues and thus eliminate the gender bias in citation of women’s work common to other disciplines.

Vykazování cenných papírů / Accounting for securitiesIbehej, Jan January 2009 (has links)
My work focuses on legal and accounting definition of securities distributed according to the type, form and other factors. It will focus in particular on simplification of stocks and bonds, their measurement and reporting. Work also includes a simlified example, which compares the methods of valuation of securities in accordance with IFRS applicable to their different impacts on basic finacial indicators. At the conclusion I tried to briefly compare the international financial system IAS/IFRS and US GAAP, and I added some informations from the securities trading and publishing.

An assessment of the marketing capabilities of trade book publishers in South AfricaWillis, Catherine Jean January 2016 (has links)
A research report submitted to the Faculty of Humanities, School of Literature, Language and Media in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of M.A Publishing Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand, 2016 / The purpose of this study is to investigate the current marketing capabilities of trade book publishers in South Africa. In addition, this study ascertains how these marketing capabilities impact on trade book publishers' sales and brand performance. There are currently several gaps in the literature on both marketing capabilities within the global publishing industry as well as gaps in the literature on the South African trade publishing industry.
The main research problem is the lack of understanding of the marketing capabilities of trade book publishers in South Africa and how these capabilities can impact on the sales performance of these trade book publishers. This study is a qualitative, case study that examined four marketing capabilities within trade publishing houses in South Africa. Four propositions (on marketing communications, pricing, product innovation and channel management) were developed and tested in the study. The Resource-based view (RBV) theory as the main theoretical lens for this study is examined. The research was gathered through interviews over a 2 month period that were conducted at the publishers’ offices. 5 publishing companies took part in the study and a total of 15 interviews were conducted. The interviews were recorded and then transcribed. The transcriptions were loaded on to an analysis software tool called MaxQDA which allowed easy analysis by the researcher.
All four propositions established were supported by the research. These marketing capabilities exist within all five trade publishing houses but that they are not being utilised as they should be. There is definite room for improvement in the publishing industr. The most significant capability for the trade publishing industry is the marketing communications capability as this is the most widely used.
The originality of this research is that it is a case study in South African trade publishing houses and that it is looking at the marketing capabilities of trade publishing houses through the RBV approach. The implications for the industry are mostly in-house implication as the models generated require an organizational change within the publishing houses. Limitations of this study as well as suggestions for future research are outlined in this study. / GR2017

Literary businesses : the British publishing industry and its business practices 1843-1900Joseph, Marrisa Dominique January 2016 (has links)
The Victorian publishing industry has been frequently analysed, debated and discussed within the fields of book history, publishing history, media studies and literary studies, yet there is a gap within academic business research on the publishing industry from the approach of organisational studies, in particular from the perspective of new institutionalism. This research examines how the business practices of organisations in the British publishing industry - which I refer to as literary businesses - developed in the Victorian era, by exploring the formation of these practices in relation to wider societal influences. My research analyses how authors, publishers and literary agents instigated and reproduced business practices in the industry, examining why these practices became accepted and legitimised. This historically oriented research is constructed around primary and archival sources, in particular trade periodicals, personal letters and business documents.

The rise of independent bookselling in ChinaLiu, Zheng January 2018 (has links)
This thesis is concerned with the rise of independent booksellers in China since the late 2000s. Drawing on the findings of a qualitative study I conducted with 55 independent booksellers between 2014 and 2015, I argue that independent bookselling in China is an economic activity politicized, and the emergence and development of independent booksellers has been a process shaped by both economic and socio-political factors stemming from both inside and outside the book industry. Studying independent bookselling, a significant change in the Chinese book industry in recent years, my thesis advances our understanding of the transformation of the book industry in China. The notion of ‘politicization’ provides a useful analytical framework for understanding bookselling and publishing in parallel contexts. Finally, by elucidating the distinctive relationship between the evolution of the book industry and some wider social, political and economic processes in China, my thesis adds to the political economy of the media industry in non-Western societies and contributes to the de-Westernization of this long-dominant and yet problematic approach to the study of the media and media industries.

Similarity and comparison of academic ranking algorithms. / 學術排名算法的相似性比較 / Xue shu pai ming suan fa de xiang si xing bi jiaoJanuary 2013 (has links)
In recent years, some of the publications database become more publically accessible, and are starting to provide additional information users can query (this is specially the case with Libra). This allows us to study the author community as a social network, analyzing not only the statistics about papers published by an author, individually at a time, but also an author’s choice and extent in connecting to other authors (co-authoring), and an author’s influence on other authors. Our approach is todesign various social network type of metrics to measure the traits defined above. / The main algorithm Author Influence Ranking (AIR), which is analogous to PageRank algorithm, is defined by taking all three relationships into consideration. Other algorithms, based on a single relationship or combination of different relationships, include: Connection, ranking algorithm using coauthor-ship; Follower Count, ranking algorithm using the number of authors who cite papers of a particular author; Follower, ranking algorithm using citation-ship; Balanced Citation Count, ranking algorithm using citation counts normalized by coauthors. / To show properties of different algorithms and do comparison among them, we design and study primitive cases. For some algorithms, the teleportation vector leads to the deviation at certain extent. Therefore, we study different teleportation vectors by tuning a parameter β(details discussed in Chapter 4) from 0 (uniformly distributed) to 1 (proportional to authors’ productivity). With different β, we define Distance to measure the changes in results of these algorithms. / Furthermore, comparisons among these algorithms are conducted by using different publication dataset and we choose Spearman Footrule Distance in our experiment to do comparison for pair of algorithms. Rank value and cumulative value are used in the comparisons: based on the comparisons using rank value, we conclude several observations regarding these algorithms. While the comparisons based on cumulative value help us confirm the "efficiency" of AIR. For using AIR metric, we can find out those really influential researchers who may not be ranked high by other metrics. We study the influence of Turing award winners and all the Turing Award winners scored at least "B", from which we can see AIR’s "accuracy". We also apply AIR metric in the real situation. We study researchers who have Grade "A"(the grade will be discussed in Chapter 6) in Influence and find most of them have good positions in reality, which help us justify the validity of AIR.("efficiency", "accuracy" and "validity" will be discussed more in Chapter 6.) / Detailed summary in vernacular field only. / Detailed summary in vernacular field only. / Detailed summary in vernacular field only. / Detailed summary in vernacular field only. / Song, Qianqian. / Thesis (M.Phil.)--Chinese University of Hong Kong, 2013. / Includes bibliographical references (leaves 78-82). / Abstracts also in Chinese. / Abstract --- p.i / Acknowledgement --- p.iv / Chapter 1 --- Introduction --- p.1 / Chapter 1.1 --- Motivation --- p.1 / Chapter 1.2 --- Background --- p.2 / Chapter 1.3 --- Our Contribution and Organization --- p.5 / Chapter 2 --- Academic Ranking Algorithms --- p.8 / Chapter 2.1 --- Publication Statistics Algorithms --- p.10 / Chapter 2.1.1 --- Citation Count --- p.10 / Chapter 2.1.2 --- Balanced Citation Count --- p.11 / Chapter 2.1.3 --- Follower Count --- p.12 / Chapter 2.2 --- PageRank-like Algorithms --- p.13 / Chapter 2.2.1 --- The PageRank Algorithm --- p.13 / Chapter 2.2.2 --- Author Influence Ranking --- p.15 / Chapter 2.2.3 --- Science Author Rank Algorithm --- p.17 / Chapter 2.2.4 --- Connection --- p.20 / Chapter 2.2.5 --- Follower --- p.21 / Chapter 3 --- Analysis of Metrics Based on Primitive Cases --- p.22 / Chapter 3.1 --- The Original Case --- p.23 / Chapter 3.2 --- Case for Three General Authors --- p.24 / Chapter 3.3 --- Case for Productive Authors --- p.26 / Chapter 3.4 --- Cases for Productive Author and Coauthor-ship --- p.28 / Chapter 3.4.1 --- Type i --- p.28 / Chapter 3.4.2 --- Type ii --- p.30 / Chapter 3.5 --- Case for Coauthor-ship --- p.32 / Chapter 3.6 --- Cases for Citation Count and Balanced Citation Count --- p.34 / Chapter 3.6.1 --- Type i --- p.34 / Chapter 3.6.2 --- Type ii --- p.36 / Chapter 4 --- Key Parameter in PageRank-like Algorithms --- p.39 / Chapter 4.1 --- The Key Parameter β --- p.39 / Chapter 4.2 --- Comparison Based on β --- p.40 / Chapter 4.3 --- Discussion --- p.43 / Chapter 5 --- Algorithms Comparison --- p.46 / Chapter 5.1 --- The Description of Our Comparisons --- p.46 / Chapter 5.2 --- Similarity Between Different Metrics --- p.47 / Chapter 5.3 --- Two Dimensions Comparison --- p.51 / Chapter 5.3.1 --- Comparison in Algorithms Dimension --- p.51 / Chapter 5.3.2 --- Comparison in Time Dimension --- p.54 / Chapter 6 --- Case Study and Validation --- p.56 / Chapter 6.1 --- AIR v.s Other Metrics --- p.57 / Chapter 6.1.1 --- AIR v.s Citation Count --- p.58 / Chapter 6.1.2 --- AIR v.s Follower Count --- p.59 / Chapter 6.1.3 --- AIR v.s Follower --- p.61 / Chapter 6.1.4 --- AIR v.s Connection --- p.62 / Chapter 6.1.5 --- AIR v.s the First Active Year --- p.64 / Chapter 6.2 --- AIR v.s Rank in Reality --- p.65 / Chapter 6.2.1 --- Ranking Award Recipients --- p.65 / Chapter 6.2.2 --- Top AIR Ranking in Society --- p.65 / Chapter 7 --- Conclusion --- p.76 / Bibliography --- p.78
