Kvinnors upplevelse att leva med depression : En litteraturöversikt / Women´s experience of living with depression : A literature review

Liljegren, Emmi, Andersson, Madeleine January 2021 (has links)
Background: One in two women is depressed at some point in their lives, this can be explained by different perceptions and experiences. Through explanations of women's perceptions and experiences, one can gain a deeper understanding of how women experience their depression. Because depression is an individual disease, it means that women do not always perceive and experience depression in the same way. This means that depression is something unique and can sometimes be difficult to diagnose. Aim: The aim of this literature review is to explore women´s experiences of living with depression. Method: The method that is used is a literature review. The educational perspective is in a nursing related area. Results: Ten articles were chosen and had to meet our inclusion criteria.Ten articles were chosen and were put in three categories and two subcategories. The three categories were experiences of treatment with depression, experiences of support from relative parties and experiences from support from healthcare staff. The subcategories were experiences of self medication and pharmacology at depression and experiences of depression at violence in close relations. Conclusion: Depression in women is a major problem in our society and it needs to be addressed. The women have described that with the right aids, depression is manageable, but there are certain obstacles in their everyday lives. The obstacles that can occur can be financial and/or emotional. Depression can come about in women everywhere and depression is something that needs to be unstigmatized.
