A study on form error compensation method for aspheric surface polishing

Liu, Yu-Zhong 22 August 2009 (has links)
A strategy was proposed to make machining rate stable and the machining precision achieved by properly tool dwelling time when surface still has form error after previously machining. Using computer simulation to plan tool dwelling time and to estimate practicability of this strategy. As a result of curvatures are different on the every points of the work piece surface. Normal vectors that between tool and work pieces surface are not stable in polishing process.HDP conditions and film thickness will be changed by curvature radius of work pieces. So HDP conditions must be controlled when the planning of tool motion. Analyzing all of different aspheric surfaces to make sure this strategy can be used. The different thing that between axially symmetric and axially non-symmetric is tool dwelling time should be a linear function the product of the depth function of profile and the radius for symmetric work pieces, but that of axially non-symmetric work pieces only should be linearly proportional to the depth function of profile.

Svensson, Tommy January 2010 (has links)

Friedel, Andre 10 March 2011 (has links) (PDF)

A Biomechanical Investigation of a Novel Implant for the Stabilization of Distal Radius Fractures

Allan, Andrew 15 August 2012 (has links)
Distal radius fractures are the single most common type of fracture suffered among the adult population. Presently, clinical decision making regarding optimal treatment is inconclusive. The goal of this thesis was to design, develop, and biomechanically test a novel implant for the stabilization of distal radius fractures. The novel implant is intended to provide a minimally invasive, low cost alternative to locked volar plates, while still permitting an earlier return to function. The implant consists of an angled bar with a sharp cutting edge and is inserted using a minimally invasive approach through the radial styloid. Surgical instrumentation was designed to facilitate the procedure in a controlled manner. To determine whether the implant would be capable of providing an early return to function, biomechanical tests were conducted both experimentally and numerically. Biomechanical testing showed that mechanical fixation with the novel implant does not support and early return to function.

Persistence of Discrete Dynamical Systems in Infinite Dimensional State Spaces

January 2014 (has links)
abstract: Persistence theory provides a mathematically rigorous answer to the question of population survival by establishing an initial-condition- independent positive lower bound for the long-term value of the population size. This study focuses on the persistence of discrete semiflows in infinite-dimensional state spaces that model the year-to-year dynamics of structured populations. The map which encapsulates the population development from one year to the next is approximated at the origin (the extinction state) by a linear or homogeneous map. The (cone) spectral radius of this approximating map is the threshold between extinction and persistence. General persistence results are applied to three particular models: a size-structured plant population model, a diffusion model (with both Neumann and Dirichlet boundary conditions) for a dispersing population of males and females that only mate and reproduce once during a very short season, and a rank-structured model for a population of males and females. / Dissertation/Thesis / Ph.D. Mathematics 2014

Wallin, Erik January 2023 (has links)
The goal of this project was to identify which AAA server would be the best fit for the company to implement in its network environment. This has been done through an investigation of three AAA protocols RADIUS, TACACS+ and Diameter. The method for carrying out the project has been to produce a list of requirements with the company with goals and milestones during the course of the work. Information about the work has mostly been gathered from previous course literature and from publications of the Internet Engineering Task Force. With this knowledge, a comparison was created between these three mentioned AAA protocols and a topology of how login to network equipment changes. A test environment with the selected AAA protocol was set up to evaluate its functionality. The result of this is reported in the form of login attempts against three switches with different makes. A discussion of the project's results, the project method, ethical and environmental aspects, as well as economic aspects are discussed at the end of the report.

The asphericity, curvature and tilt of the human cornea measured using a videokeratoscope

Douthwaite, William A. January 2003 (has links)
No / The EyeSys videokeratoscope (VK) measurements of the principal corneal meridians of 98 subjects already analysed by Douthwaite et al. [Ophthal. Physiol. Opt. (1999)19:467¿474] were re-analysed in order to revise the assessment of asphericity, to derive information on corneal tilt and to assess the degree to which the corneal section approximates to that of a conic section. The range of normality for the revised p-value (asphericity) was from 0.57 to 0.97 for the near horizontal and from 0.56 to 1.08 in the near vertical principal meridians. The approximate corneal tilt angles ranged from ¿3.95 to +8.13 degrees in the horizontal and from ¿8.99 to +9.33 degrees in the vertical meridian. A tilted conicoidal surface will display a linear relationship (r = 1) when a scatterplot is drawn of the perpendicular distance squared vs radius squared, after first averaging the two semimeridian results for each VK ring. Analysing the results from the human cornea in the same way allows an assessment of the degree to which the corneal section approximates to that of the conic section.

Effects of Electrically-Stimulated Silver-Coated Implants and Bacterial Contamination in a Canine Radius Fracture Gap Model

Wright, Russell Eric 25 August 1999 (has links)
The purpose of this project was to study the effects of anodic electrically stimulated silver-coated stainless steel implants and bacterial contamination in a canine radius fracture gap model. Twelve skeletally mature canines weighing 19.2-23.2 kg were used. Dogs were randomly assigned to into control and contaminated groups. A 5 mm ostectomy gap was made in both radii of each dog. One radius of each dog was stabilized with a silver-coated stainless steel bone plate and the other with an uncoated stainless steel bone plate. The ostectomy sites were inoculated with sterile PBS in 6 dogs and S. intermedius in the other 6 dogs. Each implant set was electrically stimulated with direct current for 20 minutes daily, for 10 days. Animals were treated with Cephalexin orally for 10 days. Radiographs were obtained at two week intervals. Animals were euthanized at 12 weeks and each plate was cultured. Radiographic, histologic and bacteriologic evaluations of each radius were performed. The difference in bone healing between silver-coated and stainless steel treated radii was determined for each dog by subjective radiographic evaluation and quantitative analysis of radiographic density using commercial software. At week 12, a significant decrease in bone healing was found on radiographic evaluations and quantitative bone area analysis of contaminated radii that were treated with electrically stimulated silver-coated implants (p-value 0.025 and 0.018 respectively). Inoculum or implant treatment type showed no significant difference on radiographic evaluations or quantitative bone area analysis. No significant differences were detected in radiographic evaluations of osteomyelitis or histologic evaluations of bone healing, inflammation and peri-implant resorption. Culture results were not indicative of S. intermedius inoculated osteomyelitis. The use of a bilateral radial ostectomy model allowed comparison of electrically stimulated silver-coated and uncoated implants within each dog. Bone healing in the stable 5 mm fracture gap radial ostectomy model, was progressive in both contaminated and non-contaminated situations. Our study found a negative effect on bone healing when electrically-stimulated silver stearate coated implant were used in S. intermedius contaminated radius ostectomies. This trend became apparent at 6 weeks post-operatively, but was not statistically evident until 12 weeks. Further studies are warranted to evaluate the appropriate protocol, the effects of, and indicated use of this treatment modality in contaminated fractures and clinical osteomyelitis situations. / Master of Science
