L'évolution des compétences liées à l'exploitation du frêt ferroviaire. / The evolution of the skills to the exploitation of the railroad freight

Rolland, Yves 27 September 2013 (has links)
The opening to compétition of rail freight in Europe leads to significant changes in structures. The SNCF, incumbent, must commit unprecedented change. New operators setting up in France and need to recruit and train staff. At first, these new operators mainly use SNCF retired staff. Furthermore, Short Lines establishing are observed. These entities, generally small, complement the work of railway undertakings for the last kilometres. Short Lines also need skills rail. Our research focuses on necessary means to acquire skills rail in accordance with safety principles and by working according to Short Lines specific operating. Virtual structure creation can help skills rail identification and définition.

Impacts of light rail in job accessibility in Phoenix

January 2014 (has links)
abstract: It has been identified in the literature that there exists a "spatial mismatch" between geographical concentrations of lower-income or minority people who have relatively lower rates of car ownership, lower skills or educational attainment and who mainly rely on public transit for their travel, and low-skilled jobs for which they more easily qualify. Given this situation, various types of transportation projects have been constructed to improve public transit services and, alongside other goals, improve the connection between low-skilled workers and jobs. As indicators of performance, measures of job accessibility are commonly used in to gauge how such improvements have facilitated job access. Following this approach, this study investigates the impact of the Phoenix Metro Light Rail on job accessibility for the transit users, by calculating job accessibility before and after the opening of the system. Moreover, it also investigates the demographic profile of those who have benefited from improvements in job accessibility----both by income and by ethnicity. Job accessibility is measured using the cumulative opportunity approach which quantifies the job accessibility within different travel time limits, such as 30 and 45 minutes. ArcGIS is used for data processing and results visualization. Results show that the Phoenix light rail has improved job accessibility of the traffic analysis zones that are along the light rail line and Hispanic and lower-income groups have benefited more than their counterparts. / Dissertation/Thesis / M.U.E.P. Big wheels keep on rolling : the Canadian Museum of Rail Travel

Thorkelsson, Paul Hunter 05 1900 (has links)
The project under investigation here is a museum facility to house the full collection of historic Canadian trains currently on display at the existing Canadian Museum of Rail Travel located in Cranbrook, British Columbia. The site of the proposed museum is on a narrow strip of vacant land bordered along one edge by an operating railway yard and on the other by Highway 3/21 the major transportation route through Southern British Columbia. The intention of this siting is to allow the proposed museum to act as a backdrop to the city providing both a buffer between it and the industrial developments beyond the rail yards, as well as a reconnection of the City to the railway on which its history and development has been so dependant. The building itself is organized as two buildings (or layers) lying along side each other like rail cars on a series of tracks. The first building (entry building) houses the public activities of the museum including entry and information, gift shop, tea room/ cafe, temporary gallery, administration offices, archives, shipping/receiving and entrance to the orientation theatre. The second building (the train shed) houses the body of the collection and museum including the restored train sets and cars, elevated discussion space, orientation theatre, and restoration workshops. These two main buildings are connected by a long narrow spine which provides circulation from the entry building through the orientation theatre into the train shed and the collection itself. The spine also houses display areas and visible archives along its length which provide the passing viewer with further explanation of particular aspects of the museum's collection. / Applied Science, Faculty of / Architecture and Landscape Architecture (SALA), School of / Graduate
