At the beginning, a background of Amazonian history and its close relationship with vegetable extraction is evidently noted. Next, we verify the political, economic and social changes that took place in the Federal Territory of the Rio Branco – Roraima, which was the result of a geopolitical and development programme. The results of this research showed that in the smaller areas in the south of Roraima, a significant change took place, from the human physical-spacial, economic and social aspects. Outstanding features were new building, increase in the population and the resurgence of cities and towns, the end of the rubber industry and the beginning of the timber industry. The rubber extracter gave way to the settler, as the new supplier of forest products. Finally, the problems regarding the repercussion, due to the social environment showing deforestation was the main social problem. In this context, a viable development plan emerged as the alternative for possible social and economic planning for the above mentioned region. / Esse trabalho tem como objetivo analisar o processo histórico relacionado ao extrativismo vegetal na mesorregião sul de Roraima. Apresenta-se inicialmente um pano de fundo da história da Amazônia, evidenciando a sua relação estreita com o extrativismo vegetal. A seguir, verifica-se as transformações políticas, econômicas e sociais que foi palco o Território Federal do Rio Branco – Roraima, resultante de um planejamento geopolítico e desenvolvimentista. Os resultados da pesquisa permitiram demonstrar que na mesorregião sul de Roraima houve uma mudança significativa do ponto de vista humano, físico-espacial, econômico e social. Destaca-se novas estruturas, aumento populacional, surgimento de várias cidades e vilarejos, passou-se do extrativismo da borracha para madeira. Deixou de existir a figura social do seringueiro e entrou em cena o colono como o novo fornecedor dos produtos florestais. Finalmente, foram discutidos os problemas relacionados às repercussões socioambientais, sendo o desmatamento apontado como o principal problema social. Nesse contexto, o desenvolvimento sustentável surge na prática como alternativa de viabilizar o desenvolvimento socioeconômico da referida mesorregião.

Partindo de um projeto formulado no início da década de 90, e orientado para a documentação de temas ambientais e sociais, a escrita dos diários levou a novas questões que se evidenciam quando percorremos as respostas particulares dos escritores e a construção desses textos no tempo. Permeados por um discurso sobre conservação do ambiente, sobre aspectos da vida social e sobre o trabalho extrativo e agrícola, os diários também carregam uma linguagem que é a da experiência de seus escritores e seu olhar diferenciado sobre esses temas. Neste texto, percorremos esse diálogo entre temas propostos e olhares personalizados tomando o tempo enquanto fio condutor que orienta a discussão das questões colocadas por esse fragmento de história de escrita. / Abstract: This dissertation provides an ethnographically oriented reading of diaries written by forest dwellers at the Reserva Extrativista do Alto Jurua, Acre. Starting early in the 1990s, with the goal of documenting aspects of the daily life related to the environment and work, the writing of diaries led to new questions as the writers responded to the proposed task and as their texts were constructed along the time. Permeated by the environmental discourse, as well as by the discourse of social life and work in extractive and agricultural activities, the diaries also carry the language of their author's personal experience and express their ways of looking to these themes. In the present text, we traverse the dialogue between the proposed themes and the personalized outlook of diaries, taking time as a conducting thread which orients our discussion of some of the issues suggested by this fragment of a history of writing. / Mestrado / Territorialidades e Processos Sociais / Mestre em Antropologia Social
