Komparace mytologických rámců titulních stran tištěných periodik Reflex a Respekt v roce 2018 / Comparison of mythology framing of Reflex and Respekt cover pages in 2018

Janouch, Filip January 2020 (has links)
Based on the semiotic analysis, this diploma thesis analyses mythological frameworks of chosen magazines. It consists of two parts, a theoretical and a practical one. The theoretical part is focused on semiotics as science, examines a sign and its historical development, describes myth, its history and research, as well as defines a theoretical starting points leading to definition of mythological framework. This definition is built on the theory of decoding and encoding of Stuart Hall, as well as his representation acknowledgements, as well as on the works of Claude Lévi-Strauss and Roland Barthes examining the myth. The practical part consists of definition of research-subject and semiotic analysis of mythological frameworks in front pages of Reflex and Respekt magazines. Findings of this analysis are then compared. This comparison leads to confirmation or disproval of hypotheses the author articulated prior to the analysis.

Teorie Ronalda Ingleharta a jejich přínos historické sociologii se zřetelem na publikace od roku 2000. / Ronald Inglehart's theories and their contribution to historical sociology with regard to the publications since 2000.

Zelenka, Jakub January 2021 (has links)
This diploma thesis aims to map the work that Ronald Inglehart published after the year 2000 and to include it in the concept of historical sociology. In my work I deal with a total of seven books, which I subject to critical reflection and at the same time I compare with other authors who commented on the given topics. The work will touch on theories of modernization, democratization, secularization and to a lesser extent civilization analysis. I will also add remarks and observations from the point of view of quantitative methodology, as Inglehart's theories are based on a large amount of quantitative data based on questionnaire surveys. The first part of my work deals with modernization theory, the next part deals with secularization and the third part focuses on the analysis of civilization. In modernization and secularization, I will first introduce versions of the theories that Inglehart and co-authors published during the first decade of the 21st century. After that, I will always reflect on recent work (2017- 2021). In the civilization part, which is the shortest, I will summarize his findings across his work. At the end of his work, Inglehart also makes predictions about future society. I also intend to analyze these findings in my diploma thesis. At the end of the work I evaluate the...

Provider practices in the management of primary hypothyroidism due to autoimmune thyroiditis

Pardamean, Carissa Ikka 22 January 2016 (has links)
Thyroid hormone is a master regulator of growth and development in all vertebrates. Thus, disruption of its synthesis and activity can lead to profound consequences. Past decade studies on thyroid function tests have established an efficient guideline for monitoring thyroid diseases, yet a significant proportion of healthcare providers do not defer to it in their practice. The aim of this study is to assess provider practices in the diagnosis and treatment of primary hypothyroidism due to autoimmunity at Boston Children's Hospital (CHB) for a primarily pediatric patient population. Commonly known as Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT), this is the most common thyroid disease in the world as well as the most common manifestation of human autoimmune endocrine disease. Through CHB's bioinformatics institute, a rich data set was collected to assess the manner in which healthcare providers utilized relevant thyroid function tests (TFTs). This work assessed and confirmed the superior sensitivity of thyroid peroxidase autoantibodies (TPO) relative to thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb) for diagnosing HT in children. We also verified proper utilization of thyroid stimulating hormone tests to monitor HT but concluded that there is a low utilization efficiency with regards to measurements of thyroid hormones (thyroxine and triiodothyronine). Based upon the observation of unnecessary monetary loss caused by improper TFTs utilization, it can be concluded that reflex testing at CHB may improve provider practices' efficiency for HT monitoring.

Prediction of Hearing Thresholds by Means of the Acoustic Reflex with Autistic and Normal Subjects

Hutchison, Edward N. 08 1900 (has links)
This study concerns audiometric evaluation and prediction of hearing loss in the autistic child based on information derived from acoustic reflex thresholds. Two groups (autistic males and normal children) of five subjects each were utilized. Results indicated that the acoustic reflex method consistently predicted significantly higher hearing thresholds for autistic subjects than operant pure-tone audiometric procedures. Furthermore, the acoustic reflex thresholds were significantly less sensitive in the autistic group than in the normal group, suggesting that the acoustic reflex response is somehow altered in autistic individuals. These findings are consistent with earlier work which hypothesized that autistics, manifest an organic brain lesion which interferes with the propagation of auditory information.

Vliv Vojtovy reflexní lokomoce na hodnoty plicních funkcí / Effects of Vojta's reflex locomotion on lung function

Drábková, Lenka January 2011 (has links)
Introduction: The aim of this thesis is to answer a question if it is possible to influence ventilation parameters with an application of Vojta's reflex locomotion, which is one of the neurophysiologic techniques. The thesis confronts actual knowledge and relation between respiratory and postural function of "respiratory" muscles and the diaphragm and possibility of its reflex affection. Methods: With a spirometry we assess the impact of short-time activation of Reflex locomotion on the lung functions in a group of 21 healthy subjects in age 18 - 33 years. The study evaluates the effect of activation in two situations. First, it is instantaneous effect of Vojta's method on lung function. Second situation is the assessment of the time duration of evoked effect of activation and make out, if the changes are seen also after 25 minutes over the end of Vojta's stimulation. Results: Based on the interpretation of the both monitored situations, we set up an observation that short time activation of Vojta's reflex therapy has an effect on respiratory mechanics and thus on the spirometric values. At the other side we realize that not all of the changes were significant and some of them were unadvisable. Moreover all of them had very short persistency, after 25 minute none of the observed changes of lung...

Stimulace zón používaných při reflexní lokomoci pomocí proudu TENS / Stimulation of the zones used during reflex locomotion by TENS

Vodňanská, Markéta January 2011 (has links)
Thesis title: Stimulation of the zones used during reflex lokomotion by the TENS Name: Markéta Vodňanská The aim of the thesis: The aim of this thesis is to determine, whether is activated the appropriate locomotor pattern during Vojta reflex locomotion - reflexive crawling, when TENS is used for a stimulation of trigger zones, as it is during manual stimulation of trigger zones for reflexive crawling. Method: The essence of this study is the stimulation of trigger zones used in the reflex locomotion manually and by transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) at a frequency of 30 Hz and 182 Hz. Six probands participated in this experiment. During the manual and TENS stimulation was scanned electrical activity in selected muscles by surface electromyography. First, it was evaluated the order of activation of selected muscles, using "standard timing" analysis by MyoResearch XP Master program. Second, it was evaluated the crawling reflex locomotion pattern visually. Results: It was confirmed, that the crawling reflex locomotion pattern, which is provoked by manual stimulation of trigger zones, is provoked by TENS stimulation as well, using the same trigger zones. It follows that the vector of direction and pressure during manual stimulation of trigger zones is not necessary for recall of the...
