Previous issue date: 2012-03-29 / Literary journalism narratives began gaining momentum with New Journalism at the end of the Nineteen-fifties and the beginning of the Sixties, modifying information's textual construction, especially in newspapers and magazines. The formula caught on with a legion of journalists all over the world, who sought and still seek support for their nonfiction narratives in the world of literature though New Journalism often combines fact and fiction, making this writing a hybrid of the two. Many Brazilian journalists also use New Journalism as the foundation for their extended reportage. This work intends to identify the fiction of New Journalism in book-length reports by two highly respected Brazilian journalists, Caco Barcellos and Fernando Morais. Based on this, the study seeks to question what genre we are dealing with, influenced as it is by the fiction of New Journalism; that works with tools of historical research like exhaustive investigation of documents and an approach that focuses on real events; that structures its narrative using literary techniques like the novel format and detailed description of scenes and, at the same time, presents itself as a textual narrative built solidly on the foundations of journalism, in other words, as a reflection of reality, of truth. / A narrativa jornal?stica liter?ria ganhou impulso a partir do Novo Jornalismo, no final dos anos 50, in?cio dos 60, alterando a constru??o textual da informa??o em jornais e revistas, especialmente. A f?rmula contagiou uma legi?o de jornalistas no mundo inteiro que buscaram no universo da literatura o suporte para suas narrativas n?o-ficcionais, embora o Novo Jornalismo misture com frequ?ncia fato e fic??o, tornando o texto h?brido. Muitos jornalistas brasileiros tamb?m utilizam o Novo Jornalismo como pilares de suas grandes reportagens. Este trabalho pretende identificar a fic??o do Novo Jornalismo nos livrosreportagem de dois conceituados jornalistas brasileiros, Caco Barcellos e Fernando Morais. A partir disso, a pesquisa busca questionar que g?nero ? esse que, influenciado pela fic??o do Novo Jornalismo, trabalha com ferramentas t?picas da hist?ria, como a exaustiva investiga??o de documentos e a abordagem sobre acontecimentos reais, que estrutura sua narrativa com recursos da literatura, como a fic??o do romance e a descri??o detalhada de cenas, e, ao mesmo tempo, se apresenta como produ??o textual erguida sobre os alicerces do jornalismo, ou seja, como sendo o reflexo da realidade, da verdade.

Previous issue date: 2013-01-28 / This thesis seeks to establish a connection between the Brazilian nonfiction novel from the seventies and the contemporary book-length work of literary journalism. The former was condemned as a spurious literary form by literary criticism, for its referentiality and its intention to expose the truth about social reality were considered a mere consequence of censorship and political repression by the military dictatorship; it would have no place in a democratic regime. The latter continues to attract reporters who crave to escape from the "dictatorship of objectivity" they are subjected to when working for newspapers; it is described by Journalism researchers as a successful combination of reporting techniques and stylistic resources borrowed from literature. Through the analysis of the books Aracelli, meu amor (Jos? Louzeiro, 1976), Cora??es sujos (Fernando Morais, 2000) and Abusado: o dono do morro Dona Marta (Caco Barcellos, 2003), this study intends to show that both the nonfiction novel from the seventies and the new pieces of narrative reportage rely on fictionalising reality . For this purpose, it adopts a concept of mimesis as narrative configuration or the creation of a fictional time experience, proposed by authors such as Paul Ricoeur, K?te Hamburger, and Mikhail Bakhtin, among others. / Esta tese busca estabelecer uma rela??o entre o romance-reportagem brasileiro da d?cada de 1970 e o chamado livro-reportagem. O primeiro foi considerado um tipo esp?rio de literatura e teve sua morte decretada pela cr?tica liter?ria, pois sua referencialidade e seu car?ter de den?ncia seriam consequ?ncia direta da censura e da repress?o exercidas pela ditadura militar; o segundo n?o cessa de atrair rep?rteres que desejam escapar ? ditadura da objetividade a que s?o submetidos nos jornais, e ? descrito por pesquisadores da ?rea do Jornalismo como uma feliz combina??o de t?cnicas de apura??o jornal?stica e recursos estil?sticos tomados de empr?stimo ? literatura. Por meio da an?lise das obras Aracelli, meu amor (Jos? Louzeiro, 1976), Cora??es sujos (Fernando Morais, 2000) e Abusado: o dono do morro Dona Marta (Caco Barcellos, 2003), pretende-se mostrar que tanto o romance-reportagem quanto o livro-reportagem empreendem uma ficcionaliza??o do real. Para isso, adota-se uma concep??o de mimesis enquanto configura??o narrativa ou cria??o de uma experi?ncia temporal fict?cia, proposta por autores como Paul Ricoeur, K?te Hamburger e Mikhail Bakhtin, entre outros.
