A Novel Method for 3D Printing High Conductivity Alloys for UHF ApplicationsBishop, Craig, Armstrong, Ian, Navarette, Rolando 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2014 Conference Proceedings / The Fiftieth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 20-23, 2014 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, CA / Traditional approaches to constructing 3D structural electronics with conductive and dielectric materials include ink-jet printed, silver-bearing ink and fine copper wire meshes. One approach combines stereo-lithographic 3D-printed photo-polymers with direct-printed silver-bearing conductive inks. Results have shown 3D conductive structures with conductivities in the range 2x10⁶ to 1x10⁷ S/m using annealing temperatures ranging from 110°C to 150°C for 10 to 15 minutes. However, the stereo-lithographic approach suffers from the high cost of the printer and structural deformation during annealing. This paper presents a new method for 3d printing high conductivity metal alloys using consumer-grade 3D printer. The design and construction of the necessary modification will be presented in addition to the new 3D design process. The method yields metal structures with expected conductivities exceeding 2.6x10⁶ S/m. The process is performed without an annealing step, so the polymeric structural material is not exposed to high temperatures for any prolonged time. A UHF ISM band antenna is constructed for an RFID application using this method, the antenna performance is measured, and the results are compared simulations in Ansys HFSS. This new method can reduce total cost, and several low melting-point alloys could raise the conductivity.

RFID's Perceived Influence on the Marketing Mix in the Logistics Industry : An exploratory studyHansson, Caroline, Andersson, Frida, Dyvelås, Sophie January 2015 (has links)
The logistics industry is known to be one of the main players for integrating Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) into their supply chain. By reflecting radio waves, RFID allows any item to become an intelligent part of an organization’s information infrastructure. RFID can create greater efficiency and effectiveness as it provides real-time information, and thus has the possibility to heavily increase logistics companies’ performance. RFID is also suggested to create marketing opportunities for companies as it facilitates customer value creation. However, little is known of RFID’s true influence on marketing. To fully understand what influence RFID has on marketing, companies must seek insight into what influence RFID has on the four P’s; Product, Price, Place and Promotion. By understanding this, companies can gain an increased knowledge of how to utilize RFID to increase their customer value and hence increase their competitive advantage in the targeted market. This study investigates what perceived influence RFID has on the four P’s within the logistics industry in Scandinavia. This was achieved by performing an exploratory research, and both primary and secondary data was collected in order ensure the validity and reliability of the study. The primary data was gathered by conducting in-depth interviews together with eight logistics companies located in Scandinavia. The findings from the interviews conducted suggested that the perception of RFID’s influence on the logistics industry’s offered product is positive. According to the findings, the use of RFID technology improved the logistic solution offered which also resulted in an increased perceived customer value. The findings also show that RFID has a positive perceived influence on price as well as promotion and place. In conclusion, the authors suggest that for RFID to have positive influence on the four P’s it must not only be successfully implemented into the logistics process, but it also requires the implementing company to reach a certain economy of scale, as well as hold a certain level of expertise about the technology to see the full potential of RFID. If these criteria are met there are several benefits to gain from use of RFID in marketing purposes in the logistics industry.

Novel wireless sensor configurations incorporating isotropic radiators on conformal artificial magnetic conductorsCooper, James Roger 27 August 2014 (has links)
The objective of the presented research is to develop a novel, ink-jet printed, chipless, passive, wireless sensor topology, which can radiate in a near isotropic pattern without interference from embedded devices, for use in dispersed sensor networks. This objective includes the development of a hardware based, uniquely identifiable, collision avoidance communication method, and an integrated sensor system that is easily integrated into the topology.
Wireless sensor networks can be and are used in military, medical and industrial applications; and the demand for them is ever growing. However, current sensor networks have various trade-offs and limitations, including cost, number of distinguishable nodes, and ease of manufacturing. These trade-offs lead to unique sensors needing to be designed for each situation. To develop a widely used module, a topology must be developed that can meet as many demands as possible with fair tradeoffs.
Many of the above proposed criteria for the topology are already integrated into RFID technology. Therefore, much of the research is the application and advancement of current RFID technology for the purpose of designing the topology. The research begins with the theory and design of conformal artificial magnetic conductors, which is used in the design of a near isotropic radiator and isolated core for device embedding. Then, novel fabrication techniques will be investigated and deployed in the fabrication of the topology. Next, a novel "smart skin" sensor is developed which is easily integrated into the desired fabrication technique. Finally, an anti-collision RFID circuit for on-tag placement, which is based on frequency-doubling transceivers, is designed, which can also be easily integrated into the final topology.
This module is designed for use with a variety of different sensors. This versatility gives it ruggedness for use in many different environments. For proof of concept, this topology is fabricated and tested against current commercially sold tags.
Through the design and testing of the radiator, circuitry, and embedded sensors, it is shown that this design is a suitable topology for use in many different environments and applications.

Godsspårningssystem för landstinget i Östergötland / Cargo tracking system LiÖAltkvist, Therese, Hultman, Hanna January 2014 (has links)
