A measurement of the fraction, f⁺, of right-handed W bosons produced in top quark decays is presented. This analysis is based on a sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 370 pb⁻¹, collected by the D⊘ detector at the Fermilab Tevatron pp Collider at √s = 1.96 TeV. The helicity angle, θ*, is reconstructed for each lepton. f⁺ is determined by comparing the cos θ* distribution from the data with that for the expected background and signal for various values of f⁺. The fraction of longitudinal W bosons, f⁰, is assumed to be 0.7 as predicted by the standard model. This yields f⁺ = 0.109 ± 0.094 (stat) ± 0.063 (syst), consistent with the standard model prediction of f⁺ = 3.6× 10⁻⁴. The possibility that both f⁺ and f⁰ stray from standard model values is also investigated. In this case cos θ* distributions for each possible W helicity state, along with the backgrounds, are fit to the cos θ* distribution for the data. The best fit values are f⁺ = 0.82 ± 0.30(stat) and f⁰ = −0.58 ± 0.50(stat).

The main issue that this thesis deals with is the interaction between the Supreme Court of Canada’s recent decision in ESA vs. SOCAN and the new making available right introduced in Canada’s Copyright Modernization Act. The thesis analyzes the approach of the Supreme Court of Canada in ESA vs. SOCAN and examines the legislative history of the making available right on both global and domestic levels. A conclusion drawn by this thesis is that, the scope of the communication right in Canada’s Copyright Act should be expanded after the introduction of the making available right in order to cover a variety of digital transmissions including downloading, P2P file sharing and other interactive transmissions.

This thesis aims to give a reflection on the doctrine of the right of resistance in the Czech Republic, its liberal democratic system and legal order. The first part of the thesis presents a short description of the background and the development of the doctrine. It also deals with Article 23 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Basic Freedoms as an attempt of embedment the right of resistance in the Czech law. The subject matter of the second part are the transformation processes taking place in the current world that have an impact and threaten liberal democracies including the Czech Republic. This part also gives examples of the application of right of resistance. The first chapter contains a short historical and a modern definition of the right of resistance. It also defines the following related notions - the revolution, the coup d'état and civil disobedience, that this thesis applies. The second chapter focuses on the history of the right of resistance. It goes back to its roots in Ancient Israel, looks upon the Enlightment authors dealing with the theory of Social contract and concludes with the post-war development.
