Rendezvous for cognitive radio networks

Yu, Lu 28 August 2015 (has links)
With the traditional static spectrum management, a significant portion of the licensed spectrum is underutilized in most of time while the unlicensed spectrum is over-crowded due to the growing demand for wireless radio spectrum from exponential growth of various wireless devices. Dynamic Spectrum Access utilizes the wireless spectrum in a more intelligent and flexible way. Cognitive radios are a promising enabler for Dynamic Spectrum Access because they can sense and access the idle channels. With cognitive radios, the unlicensed users (SUs) can opportunistically identify and access the vacant portions of the spectrum of the licensed users (PUs). In cognitive radio networks (CRNs), multiple idle channels may be available to SUs. If two or more SUs want to communicate with each other, they must select a channel which is available to all of them. The process of two or more SUs to meet and establish a link on a commonly-available channel is known as rendezvous. 1) Multiple Radios for Fast Rendezvous in CRNs: The existing works on rendezvous implicitly assume that each cognitive user is equipped with one radio (i.e., one wireless transceiver). As the cost of wireless transceivers is dropping, this feature can be exploited to significantly improve the rendezvous performance at low cost. We investigate the rendezvous problem in CRNs where cognitive users are equipped with multiple radios and different users may have different numbers of radios. We first study how the existing rendezvous algorithms can be generalized to use multiple radios for faster rendezvous. We then propose a new rendezvous algorithm, called role-based parallel sequence (RPS), which specifically exploits multiple radios for more efficient rendezvous. Our basic idea is to let the cognitive users stay in a specific channel in one dedicated radio and hop on the available channels with parallel sequences in the remaining general radios. We prove that RPS provides guaranteed rendezvous (i.e., rendezvous can be completed within a finite time) and derive the upper bounds on the maximum time-to-rendezvous (TTR) and the expected TTR. The simulation results show that i) multiple radios can cost-effectively improve the rendezvous performance, and ii) the proposed RPS algorithm performs better than the ones generalized from the existing algorithms. 2) Efficient Channel-Hopping Rendezvous Algorithm Based on Available Channel Set: All the existing rendezvous algorithms that provide guaranteed rendezvous (i.e., rendezvous can be achieved within finite time) generate channel-hopping (CH) sequences based on the whole channel set. However, some channels may be unavailable (e.g., being used by the licensed users) and these existing algorithms would randomly replace the unavailable channels by the available ones in the CH sequence. This random replacement is not effective, especially when the number of unavailable channels is large. We design a new rendezvous algorithm, called Interleaved Sequences based on Available Channel set (ISAC), that attempts rendezvous on the available channels only for faster rendezvous. ISAC constructs an odd subsequence and an even subsequence and interleaves these two subsequences to compose a CH sequence. We prove that ISAC provides guaranteed rendezvous. We derive the upper bounds on the maximum time-to-rendezvous to be O(

Zvuková stavba reklamních spotů z hlediska percepčního hodnocení / The Phonetics of Advertising in Terms of Perception Assessment

Göttlichová, Marcela January 2012 (has links)
v anglickém jazyce Abstract The theoretical part of the dissertation thesis dealing with the "Phonetics of Advertising in terms of Perception Assessment" studies literature sources focusing on spoken utterances, namely on language elements of various Czech pronunciation styles and characterizes both radio as a medium and basic principles of the theory and practical aspects of radio advertising. It outlines the grounds for description of phonetic aspects at both segmental and suprasegmental level. It provides basic features describing phonetic characteristics of the Czech language in light of its orthoepic standard. Based on the results of a quantitative survey and namely the perception tests, the goal of the paper is to show potential applicability of phonetics in marketing communications, specifically concerning the variability of the verbal part of commercials reflecting different products and target consumer groups, i.e. to show the potential the Czech language is offering at present and ways of making the most of this potential in radio advertising.

Vývoj rozhlasového zpravodajství po 2. světové válce / Development of the radio broadcast news after the World War II.

Ludwicki, Antoni January 2017 (has links)
Antoni Ludwicki Development of the radio broadcast news after the World War II Abstract The aim of this thesis is the analysis of changes in style of radio broadcast news in the second half of the 20th century. The main source for this research is the Archive of Czech radio. Theoretical part of this work contains scientific literature and the determination what a radio broadcast news should be like. This part contains also a description of radio broadcasking in Czechoslovakia before the World War II. A significant part of this work contains transcriptions and analyses of recording of radio news. The analysis begins with records from 1968 as no data was found on the research in the Archive of Czech radio before that date. The research was divided into chapters based on historical events. Last part of the analysis of style is the comparison between theoretical and practical research and conclusions. The purpose of this thesis is the analysis of style in radio broadcast news and changes of this style within chosen decades.

Fortschrittliche Technologie im Dienste eines Antimodernisten. Heinrich Schenker und der österreichische Rundfunk

Deisinger, Marko 29 October 2020 (has links)
The Viennese music theoretician Heinrich Schenker opposed modernity during his entire life. At first, this opposition applied to new technologies as well. Despite his skepticism, he purchased a radio shortly after the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (RAVAG) started broadcasting in October 1924 and soon became an avid radio listener. Schenker quickly grasped the advantages of this new transmission medium and used it to further his own interests, aided by personal contacts with the RAVAG. In 1928, his associate Otto Erich Deutsch delivered a radio lecture co-authored with Schenker about the goals of the “Archive for Photograms of Musical Master Manuscripts” which was founded at Schenker’s instigation. In 1934, the RAVAG sponsored a competition, awarding the best text to a song fragment by Franz Schubert which in turn was discovered by Deutsch. Since the textless fragment lacks the final measures, Schenker had previously composed an ending for the song which was also performed on the radio.

Radio Stalin jako příklad českého pirátského rozhlasového vysílání / Radio Stalin as an example of the Czech pirate radio

Prágrová, Šárka January 2017 (has links)
Diploma thesis "Radio Stalin as an example of Czech piracy radio broadcast" is aimed to complexly present radio station Radio Stalin which was broadcasting in October 1990 in Prague. Radio Stalin is presented in the context of events of that time and related changes in politics, economy, society and media and in the context of piracy radio broadcast. First of all the emphasis is put on media transformation and changes in legislative framework of radio broadcasting after 1989. Radio Stalin is described through the method of oral history when interviews were held with its several cofounders. This method was chosen because of absence or unavailability of other sources. However, press is used partly. In this thesis is created overall picture of Radio Stalin. It is possible to imagine the situation and conditions in which was this radio created, the period before the start of broadcasting, the broadcasting process, the end of its broadcasting and the continuation of it. The benefit of thesis is the reminder of this often neglected radio which has its own place in the history of Czech radio broadcasting. Radio Stalin is the first private radio station in Czechoslovakia which story is an interplay of many happy coincidences. This radio goal was to fill the missing gap and it enriched in long-term the...
