STATE EVALUATION OF TELEMETRY SYSTEM

Cheng, Miao Liu 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 25-28, 1999 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / The telemetry system has been used in many important fields. Generally speaking, it’s easy to judge whether the system operation is successful or not. But when it is running normally, it is not easy to evaluate the medium state (between success and fail) of the telemetry system, likes a man’s spirit state. In this paper, a method with fuzzy theory is brought forward to evaluate the “Spirit State” of the telemetry system. This method can be used to evaluate the telemetry system, or to evaluate other important system states. By this method, the estimation to the mission will be very exact and reliable.

Advanced Test Range Verification at RF Without Flights

Williams, Steve 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2010 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Sixth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 25-28, 2010 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California / Flight and weapons test ranges typically include multiple Telemetry Sites (TM Sites) that receive telemetry from platforms being flown on the range. Received telemetry is processed and forwarded by them to a Range Control Center (RCC) which is responsible for flight safety, and for delivering captured best source telemetry to those responsible for the platform being flown. When range equipment or operations are impaired in their ability to receive telemetry or process it correctly, expensive and/or one-of-a-kind platforms may have to be destroyed in flight to maintain safety margins, resulting in substantial monetary loss, valuable data loss, schedule disruption and potential safety concerns. Less severe telemetry disruptions can also result in missing or garbled telemetry data, negatively impacting platform test, analysis and design modification cycles. This paper provides a high level overview of a physics-compliant Range Test System (RTS) built upon Radio Frequency (RF) Channel Simulator technology. The system is useful in verifying range operation with most range equipment configured to function as in an actual mission. The system generates RF signals with appropriate RF link effects associated with range and range rate between the flight platform and multiple telemetry tracking stations. It also emulates flight and RF characteristics of the platform, to include signal parameters, antenna modeling, body shielding and accurate flight parameters. The system is useful for hardware, software, firmware and process testing, regression testing, and fault detection test, as well as range customer assurance, and range personnel training against nominal and worst-case conditions.

NEXT GENERATION MOBILE TELEMETRY SYSTEM

Padilla, Frank Jr 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 28-31, 1996 / Town and Country Hotel and Convention Center, San Diego, California / White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) is developing a new transportable telemetry system that consolidates various telemetry data collection functions currently being performed by separate instrumentation. The new system will provide higher data rate handling capability, reduced labor requirements, and more efficient operations support which will result in a reduction of mission support costs. Seven new systems are planned for procurement through Requirements Contracts. They will replace current mobile systems which are over 25 years old on a one-on-one basis. Regulation allows for a sixty-five percent overage on the contract and WSMR plans to make this contract available for use by other Major Range Test Facility Bases (MRTFBs). Separate line items in the contracts make it possible to vary the design to meet a specific system configuration. This paper describes both current and replacement mobile telemetry system

The application of sediment source fingerprinting techniques to river floodplain cores, to examine recent changes in sediment sources in selected UK river basins

Haley, Stephen Mark January 2010 (has links)
In recent years there has been an increasing awareness of the detrimental influence of diffuse sources of pollution on aquatic systems and of the integral role played by sediment in the mobilisation and transport of pollutants. The recognition of the environmental, societal and economic importance of the ecological health of aquatic environments has led to a change in emphasis regarding agricultural and environmental policy. To implement successful delivery of emerging policy requirements, there is a current need to have an enhanced understanding of the relationship between different forms of land use and sources of diffuse pollution, particularly sources of fine sediment. To understand the potential impacts of future land use changes, including environmental conservation measures on sources of sediment, it is useful to consider them within a longer-term context. This study has successfully applied the sediment source fingerprinting technique to floodplain overbank sediment cores in a retrospective study of six diverse UK river catchments with identified sediment problems. The varying estimates of relative sediment contributions from differing sources have been compared to known land use change in the study catchments over concurrent time periods, to explore any associations which might be apparent. Over the last 40 years, the increased cultivation of high erosion risk crops, such as those which are harvested late in the season (e.g. maize) and those which are sown in the autumn (e.g. winter wheat), has contributed disproportionately to the total sediment load relative to the area of land occupied by such cultivation. Increased stocking densities have resulted in increased relative sediment contributions from grassland sources, particularly intensively managed temporary grassland, but can have an even greater impact on sediment contributions derived from channel bank sources. The installation and maintenance of drainage for agriculture or for flood risk management has resulted in increased relative sediment loads from channel bank and associated sub-surface sources. Through the further development of such research, the efficacy of mitigation measures can be tested against evidence-based historic trends and those management approaches which provide identifiable improvements can be developed as best practice options for future land management targeted at reducing the negative impacts of excessive sediment ingress to river systems. The design of the source fingerprinting methodology used in this work was based on an established successful approach and this was developed further through the incorporation of a number of refinements designed to improve the robustness of the technique and expedite its implementation.

Franke, Johannes 01 October 2009 (has links)
This paper was written as a cumulative doctoral thesis based on appraised publications. Its objective was to study the temporal spectrum of precipitation under already changed or possible future climate conditions in order to derive effects on the water budget which are fraught with risks. Based on seasonal trends as established for Saxony and Central Germany for precipitation in the period of 1951-2000, the focus was on the behaviour of heavy precipitation in the catchment area of the Weißeritz (eastern Ore Mountains) during the growing season. Using distributions of extreme values, the local heavy precipitation behaviour in the reference period of 1961-2000 was described from a statistical point of view for event durations of 1-24 hours and their return periods of 5-100 years. Statistical downscaling based on weather patterns was used to project possible changes in the level of the high temporal resolution spectrum of precipitation, compared with the reference spectrum, to the time slices around 2025 (2011-2040) and 2050 (2036-2065). The IPCC A1B emission scenario was assumed for expected climate conditions for this purpose. Using a regionalisation algorithm adapted to the problem made it possible to achieve a transformation of local information into areal information. In doing so, distribution-relevant orographic effects on precipitation were taken into consideration in a manner true to scale. Significant decreases in precipitation in summer and during the growing season are combined with an increase and intensification of heavy precipitation in Saxony. This gives rise to a potential for conflict between the need for flood protection, on the one hand, and the supply of (drinking) water, on the other hand. For the expected climate conditions of the time slices around 2025 and 2050, increasingly positive, non-linear shifts in the level of the high temporal resolution spectrum of heavy precipitation were calculated for the catchment of the Weißeritz. Higher amounts of rain were found if the return periods were kept constant, and shorter return periods were found if the rain amounts were kept constant. It may be concluded from the change signal obtained that the continuing general warming trend is accompanied by an intensification of the primarily thermally induced convective behaviour of heavy precipitation. In Saxony, this is associated with an increasingly frequent occurrence of heavy precipitation events of short duration and with an additional orographic intensification of events of long duration. Using the Ellenberg climate quotient, effects of the recent climate trend on the distribution of potential natural vegetation in Central Germany were studied by way of example. Underlying climatological conditions subject to a trend, in particular the negative trend of precipitation in summer, were taken into consideration by a modification of the calculation rule. All in all, it was found that regional effects of global climate change bring about massive changes in the spatiotemporal structure of precipitation in Saxony, which inevitably leads to a complex chain of impact on the regional water budget and is fraught with risks.
