Avalia??o da atividade tur?stica sobre a composi??o e a distribui??o das macroalgas marinhas nos recifes de Pirangi (Rio Grande do Norte, Brasil)

In order to evaluate these effects, surveys on seaweeds were conducted at nine stations located over the fringing reef. Benthic community (seaweeds/corals) were identified using the photoquadrat method, with 50 meters random transects located paralleled to the coast. The general categories evaluated in each transect were: rock, sand, seaweeds, corals and mollusks. Data achieved were processed at Coral Point Count with Excel Extensions software. A total of 30 seaweed species, 5 coral species and 1 mollusk species were identified. There was a high dominance of short algae at stations with high tourism pressure, whereas frondose algae usually occurred at places without human interference. Seaweeds with the highest percent cover were composed by Sargassum vulgare (59%), Caulerpa racemosa (47%) and Dictyopteris delicatula (33%). Cluster analyses considering benthic organisms revealed five benthic features: (1) submersed area characterized by a diversified marine flora; (2) area with dominance of Caulerpa racemosa and presence of Millepora alcicornis; (3) area with high cover of Sargassum vulgare; (4) trampling area characterized by bare rocks, short algae and Zoanthus sociatus and (5) area with high coverage of Palythoa caribaeroum. Obtained data suggest that the studied area has been damaged by tourism activities. Furthermore, observed differences in algal communities may be a good indicator of ecosystem health of Pirangi reefs / A ?rea recifal da praia de Pirangi tem sofrido a??es antr?picas, principalmente aquelas relacionadas ? explora??o tur?stica. Para avaliar esses efeitos, amostragens de macroalgas foram realizadas em nove esta??es, distribu?das em ?reas distintas (presen?a e aus?ncia de turistas), ao longo da franja recifal. A comunidade macrobent?nica (algas/corais) foi identificada com uso do m?todo do fotoquadrado, ao longo de transectos de 50 metros, distribu?dos aleatoriamente e paralelos ? linha de costa. As seguintes categorias gerais foram examinadas em cada transecto: rocha, areia, algas, corais e moluscos. Os dados obtidos no campo foram analisados atrav?s do software Coral Point Count with Excel extensions. Um total de 30 esp?cies de macroalgas e 5 esp?cies de corais e uma de molusco foi identificado. Nos locais onde a atividade tur?stica era mais intensa, foi observada uma domin?ncia de algas de pequeno porte, enquanto que nos locais sem interfer?ncia humana ocorria a predomin?ncia de algas foliosas. As macroalgas com maior cobertura percentual foram Sargassum vulgare (59%), Caulerpa racemosa (47%) e Dictyopteris delicatula (33%), em diferentes esta??es de coleta. A an?lise de agrupamento dos organismos bent?nicos indicadores revelou um padr?o na distribui??o espacial com cinco faixas: (1) ?rea totalmente submersa caracterizada por apresentar uma flora bastante diversificada; (2) ?rea com predom?nio de Caulerpa racemosa e presen?a de coral de fogo (Millepora alcicornis), (3) ?rea com elevada cobertura de Sargassum vulgare, (4) ?rea de pisoteio caracterizada por espa?os vazios, algas de pequeno porte e Zoanthus sociatus e (5) ?rea caracterizada pela presen?a marcante do coral Palythoa caribaeroum. De acordo com os dados obtidos, n?s pudemos inferir que a ?rea estudada vem sofrendo altera??es resultantes da atividade tur?stica e que as diferen?as observadas na comunidade algal podem ser um indicador importante da sa?de da ?rea recifal de Pirangi
