Context-free adaptive grammars with appearance checking.

Bravo Pariente, César Alberto 22 January 2004 (has links)
This work introduces and describes the formalism of the context-free adaptive grammar with appearance checking. Such gramatical devices have as its kernel a subjacent context-free grammar and, as mechanism of self-modification, one or several adaptive functions which determines the productions able to be applied at each step of a derivation. The appearance checking refers to a special way to apply some productions, choosen by the designer of the grammar, without changing the sentential form in this application. It is proved that this formalism has Turing Machine power, proving, by construction, its equivalence with four grammatical formalisms based on context-free grammars and with control mechanisms, with such power. Two parsers have been developed for context-dependent languages from one of these four formalisms. One of them is based on stack-automata, and operates in a bottom-up fashion.

Regulated rewriting in formal language theory

Taha, Mohamed A. M. S 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MSc (Mathematical Sciences))--University of Stellenbosch, 2008. / Context-free grammars are well-studied and well-behaved in terms of decidability, but many real-world problems cannot be described with context-free grammars. Grammars with regulated rewriting are grammars with mechanisms to regulate the applications of rules, so that certain derivations are avoided. Thus, with context-free rules and regulated rewriting mechanisms, one can often generate languages that are not context-free. In this thesis we study grammars with regulated rewriting mechanisms. We consider problems in which context-free grammars are insufficient and in which more descriptive grammars are required. We compare bag context grammars with other well-known classes of grammars with regulated rewriting mechanisms. We also discuss the relation between bag context grammars and recognizing devices such as counter automata and Petri net automata. We show that regular bag context grammars can generate any recursively enumerable language. We reformulate the pumping lemma for random permitting context languages with context-free rules, as introduced by Ewert and Van der Walt, by using the concept of a string homomorphism. We conclude the thesis with decidability and complexity properties of grammars with regulated rewriting.

Synchronní formální systémy založené na gramatikách a převodnících / Synchronous Formal Systems Based on Grammars and Transducers

Horáček, Petr January 2014 (has links)
Práce prezentuje nové teoretické výsledky ohledně generativní a přijímajicí síly. Poslední část práce zkoumá možnosti lingvisticky orientovaných aplikací se zameřením na překlad přirozeného jazyka. Diskutuje a srovnává hlavní výhody nových modelů s využitím vybraných případových studií z českého, anglického a japonského jazyka pro ilustraci.

The control system in formal language theory and the model monitoring approach for reliability and safety / Systèmes de contrôle dans la théorie des langages et approche par monitoring des modèles pour la sécurité

Chen, Zhe 09 July 2010 (has links)
This thesis contributes to the study of reliability and safety of computer and software systems which are modeled as discrete event systems. The major contributions include the theory of Control Systems (C Systems) and the model monitoring approach. In the first part of the thesis, we study the theory of control systems which combines and significantly extends regulated rewriting in formal languages theory and supervisory control. The control system is a generic framework, and contains two components: the controlled component and the controlling component that restricts the behavior of the controlled component. The two components are expressed using the same formalism, e.g., automata or grammars. We consider various classes of control systems based on different formalisms, for example, automaton control systems, grammar control systems, and their infinite versions and concurrent variants. After that, an application of the theory is presented. The Büchi automata based control system is used to model and check correctness properties on execution traces specified by nevertrace claims. In the second part of the thesis, we investigate the model monitoring approach whose theoretical foundation is the theory of control systems. The key principle of the approach is “property specifications as controllers”. In other words, the functional requirements and property specification of a system are separately modeled and implemented, and the latter one controls the behavior of the former one. The model monitoring approach contains two alternative techniques, namely model monitoring and model generating. The approach can be applied in several ways to improve reliability and safety of various classes of systems. We present some typical applications to show its strong power. First, the approach provides better support for the change and evolution of property specifications. Second, it provides the theoretical foundation of safety-related systems in the standard IEC 61508 for ensuring the functional validity. Third, it is used to formalize and check guidelines and consistency rules of UML.These results lay out the foundations for further study of more advanced control mechanisms, and provide a new way for ensuring reliability and safety

Gramatiky s omezenými derivačními stromy / Grammars with Restricted Derivation Trees

Koutný, Jiří January 2012 (has links)
