How care providers work with nursing on a rehabilitation center for children with disabilities in rural Peru : An observational study / Hur vårdgivare arbetar med omvårdnad vid ett rehabiliteringscenter för funktionshindrade barn på landsbygden i Peru : En observationsstudieStröm, Sofia January 2016 (has links)
Background: In Peru it is estimated that ten percent of the population suffers from a disability. Nursing in rehabilitation setting is when the nurse aims to maximize the quality of life for a patient suffering from disability or chronic disease. Aim: The aim is to describe nursing by care providers on a rehabilitation center in rural Peru. Method: The method in this thesis is observational study with ethnographic approach. The observations is performed on a rehabilitation center in rural Peru. Result: Two themes and four sub-themes were identified from the collected data. Nursing care with including sub-themes clinical investigation and family-centered care. Mobilization and independency with including sub themes improve the chance to mobilize and promote self-management. Conclusion: The Peruvian nursing care provided through a rehabilitation center in rural Peru shows that care providers are working with very basic equipment and limited instructions about how to maximize the patient outcome with very few recourses. Education methods are adjusted to their patient group to promote family centered care. Further research: Guidelines for rehabilitation nursing should be developed for settings without high technologized equipment as well as how to maximize the patient and family outcome through family centered care with limited resources.

Estudo retrospectivo sobre o perfil clínico e sociodemográfico dos pacientes submetidos à revisão de prótese de quadril no período de 2002 a 2006 / A retrospective study of the clinical and socio-demographic profile of patients submitted to hip prosthesis revision in the period from 2002 to 2006Leite, Cesar da Silva 05 June 2008 (has links)
Referente à escolaridade a maioria (58,1%) tinha fundamental completo. O estudo contribui para a estruturação de um cuidar multidisciplinar e especializado, pois possibilita o conhecimento da clientela, através de um perfil sociodemográfico e clínico, proporcionando mecanismos para intervenções de modo a transformar a assistência de Enfermagem em Ortopedia e Traumatologia e Reabilitação Física / This study was aimed at evaluating the clinical and epidemiological profile of patients submitted to hip prosthesis surgery who had complications related to it in the post-surgery period. The research was conducted between 2002 and 2006; the initial sample was comprised of 398 surgeries of patients submitted to Primary Hip Arthroplasty, performed at a specialized school hospital in the city of São Paulo. In 48 of those surgeries there were post-surgery complications, thus comprising the final sample of this study. There was a predominance of females (66.7%), with average age of 59, married or with a stable union (43.4%), living in the city of São Paulo (55.3%). Regarding education, most (58.1%) had finished primary school. As for occupation, the majority were retirees and patients that perform technical and occupational activities, both with 35.1%. Hip infection was the most common cause for hip prosthesis revision (33.3%). Vancomycin and ceftazydime, used together, were the most used antibiotics (58.1%). The study helps the development of a multidisciplinary, specialized care because it brings information about the clientele through a socio-demographic and clinical profile, thus providing mechanisms for interventions so as to transform care in Orthopedic and Traumatology Nursing and in Physical Rehabilitation Nursing

A grounded theory of nursing's contribution to inpatient rehabilitation.Pryor, Julie Anne, mikewood@deakin.edu.au January 2005 (has links)
There is growing awareness of the benefits of rehabilitation both in Australia and overseas. While the provision of rehabilitation services is not new, recognition of this type of health service as an integral part of health care has been linked to changes in the provision of acute care services, advances in medical technology, improvements in the management of trauma and an ageing population. Despite this, little attention has been paid to nursing's contribution to patient rehabilitation in Australia. The aim of this grounded theory study, therefore, was to collect and analyse nurses' reports of their contributions to patient rehabilitation and to describe and analyse contextual factors influencing that contribution.
Data were collected during interviews with registered and enrolled nurses working in five inpatient rehabilitation units in New South Wales and during observation of the nurses' everyday practice. A total of 53 nurses participated in the study, 35 registered nurses and 18 enrolled nurses. Grounded theory, informed by the theoretical perspective of symbolic interactionism, was used to guide data analysis, the ongoing collection of data and the generation of a substantive theory.
The findings revealed six major categories. One was an everyday problem labelled incongruence between nurses' and patients' understandings and expectations of rehabilitation. Another category, labelled coaching patients to self-care, described how nurses independently negotiated the everyday problem of incongruence. The remaining four categories captured conditions in the inpatient context which influenced how nurses could contribute to patient rehabilitation. Two categories, labelled segregation: divided and dividing work practices between nursing and allied health and role ambiguity, were powerful in shaping nursing's contribution as they acted individually and synergistically to constrain nursing's contribution to patient rehabilitation. The other two categories, labelled distancing to manage systemic constraints and grasping the nettle to realise nursing's potential, represent the mutually exclusive strategies nurses used in response to segregation and role ambiguity.
From exploration of the relationship between the six categories, the core category and an interactive grounded theory called opting in and opting out emerged. In turn, this grounded theory reveals nursing's contribution to inpatient rehabilitation as well as contextual conditions constraining that contribution. The significance of these findings is made manifest through their contribution to the advancement of nursing knowledge and through implications for nursing practice and education, rehabilitation service delivery and research.

Atuação do enfermeiro na reabilitação do paciente oncológico: revisão integrativa / The nurse\'s performance in the rehabilitation of the cancer patient: integrative reviewTeles, Priscila Alvarenga 22 March 2019 (has links)
A diversidade e complexidade do seu papel neste cenário demonstra claramente que suas ações são fundamentais, pois abordam todos os comprometimentos biopsicossociais impostos ao cliente pela doença, promovendo uma assistência de enfermagem individualizada, humanizada e holística / Objective: to evaluate the available evidences in the literature about the nurse\'s performance in the rehabilitation of the cancer patient. Method: it is an integrative review following the following steps: identification of the problem, research in the literature, extraction of data from the primary studies, evaluation of the primary studies and presentation of the integrative review. The search of the primary studies was performed in the databases CINAHL, LILACS and PubMed published in the period from June 30, 2008 to June 30, 2018. Results: the sample consisted of 32 primary studies, grouped into three categories: (1) interactional actions (n = 8); (2) educational actions (n = 10); and (3) care actions (n = 14) of the nurse in cancer rehabilitation. In category 1, the main subjects investigated were communication, spiritual and psychological support. In category 2, guidelines were found and given to the patient and elaboration of teaching strategies. In category 3, home care, nursing process, technical procedures and alternative practices were the main topics addressed. It was verified that the nurse involved in cancer rehabilitation should use dialogue and listening as resources to achieve his interactional actions, and that his skills allow an effective and therapeutic patient-nurse relationship, resulting in a better biopsychosocial and spiritual care. In addition, his educational actions have been proved important to the patient in order to motivate him to be responsible for his own care, which will help him in facing problems and reaching his autonomy. His care actions turned to health promotion in all aspects and were based on the systematization of care, which provides him scientific and human resources; they also demonstrated the importance of the insertion of alternative practices in the care of the cancer patient. Conclusion: all the evidences provided support to the nurse to understand his performance in cancer rehabilitation. The diversity and complexity of his role in this context clearly demonstrates that his actions are fundamental, as they address all the biopsychosocial commitments imposed on the client by the disease, promoting an individualized, humanized and holistic nursing care
