Syftet med denna uppsats var att identifiera vilka möjligheter för SMEs att få intäkter med sina produktioner via internet. Syftet var även att undersöka vad SMEs tänker kring hur man kan använda olika intäktsmodeller. För att undersöka detta använde vi oss av en kartläggning av intäktsmodeller och gruppintervju. Kartläggningen baserades på tidigare forskning och användes för att få en överblick på vilka intäktsmodeller som används av företag idag. Gruppintervjun användes för att låta företag diskutera med varandra hur olika intäktsmodeller kan användas, och hur de tycker om användning av alternativa betalningsmetoder. Vi fann i vår studie flera olika intäktsmodeller och att företag använder ofta mer än en intäktsmodell. Intervjun visade på att SMEs ofta ser mer negativa aspekter på olika intäktsmodeller än vad de ser de positiva aspekterna. Studien visar på att det finns ett antal olika intäktsmodeller som SMEs kan använda sig av på internet, men att de måste vara innovativa och hitta vägar för att kombinera olika intäktsmodeller för att blomstra på internet. / The purpose of this paper was to identifying the opportunities for SMEs to obtain revenue with their productions online. The aim was also to investigate what SMEs think about how they can use the different revenue models. To investigate this, we used a mapping of revenue models and a group interview. The mapping was based on previous research and was used to obtain an overview of the revenue models used by companies today. The group interview was used to allow the company's to discuss with each other how different revenue models can be used, and how they feel about the use of alternative payment methods. In our study we found several different revenue models and that companies often use more than one revenue model. The interview showed us that SMEs often see more negative aspects of different revenue models than what they find the positive aspects. The study shows that there are a number of different revenue models that SMEs can make use of the internet, but they must be innovative and find ways to combine different revenue models to thrive online.

History and Demise of The University Foundation in St. Augustine, Florida: An Institutional Autopsy

This is an historical study of an institution of higher education that existed in St. Augustine, Florida from 1942-1949. The name of the institution was The University Foundation, founded by George J. Apel, Jr. This institution had several higher education divisions functioning under its umbrella. These divisions were the St. Augustine Junior College, the Graduate Division, the American Theological Seminary and the University Extension College with evening courses and Home Study courses for vacation study. The information collected for this study was accomplished primarily by the process of studying archives and conducting personal interviews. Since this is a qualitative research study, the collected information was processed through the use of multiple data-collection methods, data sources and analyses which insured the validity of the findings of the study. This process is known as information triangulation. The results of this study provide answers to the circumstances and identities of the key players which led to the formation of The University Foundation. Issues relating to the mission, revenue streams, faculty, curricula, and the ultimate demise of The University Foundation were also addressed in this study. Recommendations are included for higher education administrators, faculty, researchers, fund-raisers, and others whose efforts may be directed toward the launching and operation of new Christian institutions of higher learning.

Teknologiska framsteg inom webbteknologier, virtualisering samt ökad bandbredd har gett upphov till cloud computing, en disruptiv innovation som leder till tjänstefiering av IT-industrin där produkter som hårdvaror och mjukvaror omvandlas till tjänster och som görs tillgängliga för kunder via Internet. Software-as-a-service är en del av cloud computing och avser applikationer som är installerade och körs på en molninfrastruktur och som tillgängliggörs som en tjänst för kunder via en webbläsare eller ett tunt klientgränssnitt. Att leverera mjukvara som en tjänst är en trend som under de senaste åren har vuxit och som förväntas fortsätta växa och som har inneburit att nya intäktsströmmar för mjukvara har möjliggjorts.    Tidigare studier har visat att det finns flera olika intäktsströmmar för software-as-a-service som kan fungera hållbart och att valet bör ske genom att ta hänsyn till en mängd olika variabler. Många av studierna inom området är dock konceptuella och bygger inte på primärdata. Dessutom är de flesta studier äldre än fyra år. Vidare finns det enligt vår vetskap inte några studier som undersöker hur affärsmodellen som helhet påverkas av valet av intäktsströmmar för software-as-a-service.     Studien har syftat till att skapa förståelse för vad som påverkar mjukvaruföretags val av intäktsströmmar. Detta har betraktats utifrån ett affärsmodellsperspektiv med hjälp av verktyget Business Model Canvas.   En kvalitativ små-N-studie har genomförts. Empiri har samlats in genom att utföra fem intervjuer med olika företag inom mjukvarubranschen som levererar mjukvara enligt software-as-a-service. En kvalitativ innehållsanalys i kombination med ramverket Business Model Canvas har använts för att analysera insamlad empiri. Studien resulterade i ett flertal faktorer som påverkar företags val av intäktsströmmar. Dessa är:  Mjukvarans komplexitet, varumärket, behov av återkommande intäkter, leverans, kundernas inflytande, förväntat användarmönster, marknadsacceptanssamtlagar och regleringar.Vissa av de identifierade faktorerna bekräftar upptäckter som gjorts i tidigare forskning medan andra faktorer, utifrån vår kännedom, tillför ny kunskap inom området. Analysen av de identifierade faktorernas inverkan på affärsmodellen med hjälp av Business Model Canvas visade att det fanns en komplex koppling mellan faktorerna och affärsmodellens byggstenar. Varje identifierad faktor kan ha en direkt inverkan på en eller flera byggstenar i affärsmodellen. Detta tyder på att valet av intäktsströmmar för mjukvara är en komplicerad process och att valet bör baseras utifrån affärsmodellens övriga byggstenar. / Technological advances in web technologies, virtualization and increased bandwidth have given rise to cloud computing, a disruptive innovation that has led to the servitization of the IT-industry where products such as hardware and software have transformed to services which are made available to customers through the internet. Software-as-a-service is a part of cloud computing and refers to applications that are installed and executed on cloud infrastructure and made available as a service to the customers through a web browser or thin client interface. Delivering software-as-a-service has been an increasing trend that is predicted to continue to grow. It has enabled new revenue streams for software.    Previous studies have shown that an array of revenue streams can work sustainably, but when choosing revenue streams, there are many variables to consider. This thesis examines aspects of these implications which have not been fully covered empirically and in recent years. Moreover, we examine how the business model is affected as a whole in the choice of revenue streams for software-as-a-service, an aspect which has been overlooked in the literature.    The purpose of the study has been to create an understanding of what affects the software companies’ choice of revenue streams. This has been viewed from a business model perspective through the Business Model Canvas framework.   A qualitative small-N-study has been undertaken. The empirical data were collected by five interviews at five different companies in the software industry who deliver their software according to the software-as-a-service model. A qualitative content analysis in combination with the Business Model Canvas framework has been applied to analyze the empirical data.   The outcome of the study resulted in identification of several factors which affected the companies choice in revenue streams These factors are: The complexity of the software, the need for recurring revenues, delivery, the customers’ influence, expected usage patterns, market acceptance and rules and regulations.Some of the factors have confirmed findings from previous studies while other factors according to our awareness have contributed to new knowledge in the field. The analysis of the identified factors on the business model by the Business Model Canvas has shown that there is a complex connection between the factors and the building blocks of the business model. This suggests that the choice of revenue streams for software is a complex process and should be grounded in the business model as a whole.

Applying the business model canvas to develop business models for SMEs in Namibia : a case of the Khomas Region

There have been tremendous economic developments in all parts of the world including developing nations. One of the major drivers of these developments has been from the Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs). These businesses have enabled many nations to create employment, resulting in an increase in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In as much as SMEs have well documented benefits, they also require many support, capital and business skills. This has led to the establishment of SME incubation centres where start-ups are hosted and trained to have the business skills. However, despite the incubation initiatives, SMEs still fail to grow and always have challenges. At times, the challenges are not finance related but lack of proper business strategies. This could be addressed by considering business models. This dissertation considers the initiatives that have been taking place on SMEs. A case study of SMEs in Namibia within the Khomas region is used. A mixed research approach was adopted. Specific research methods used were interviews and observations with questionnaires being used as the instruments to gather the required information. SMEs from the Bokamoso Entrepreneurial Centre in Windhoek were selected for the research population. One of the popular Business Model Canvas tools was used as a sample of a guide in data collection, where SMEs engaged were to indicate how they apply certain categories of the canvas. Results show that SMEs engaged do not have specific business models they are applying. However, there were many elements and understanding of the categories from the business model canvas. At the same time, SMEs mentioned incorporating technologies in their businesses and using ICTs to reach customers and make an effort to cut on the cost of bringing in stock. It was also clear that SMEs work independently and have long working hours when they are to meet specific orders. It was concluded that SMEs’ needs are different and that it may be difficult to use one business model. However, a mixture of a few business models could be combined to cater for the changing environment and address business needs. The Business Model Canvas could be applied for the Namibian SMEs but there is need to consider some other business models such as cutting out the middleman, business partnership models and bricks and clicks models. / Business Management / M.
