Changing risky behaviour through worldview transformation : a pastoral intervention to the spread of HIV/AIDS in Zambia

The study investigates how the church in Zambia can effectively facilitate change toward reducing HIV-risky behaviour. The researcher posits that an intricate connection exists between HIV-risky behaviour and the socio-cultural context of majority people groups in Zambia. He further argues that much risky behaviour is imbedded in pervasive socio-cultural norms and traditions propelled by a worldview which essentially resists transformation. From an insider’s perspective the researcher will design a praxis model for transforming Zambian worldview facets with regard to HIV/AIDS predisposing behaviours in order to achieve enduring HIV risk reduction. The study reviews current literature on HIV behavioural change theories and models to understand where the theories have taken all the stakeholders, including theological praxis. The study will demonstrate the link between Zambian cultural worldviews and trends in sexual behaviour which, arguably, facilitates the proliferation of HIV risky behaviour. Exploring adolescents' perceptions of risky behaviour using the mobile phone / N. Gois De Gouveia.

The aim of this study was to examine adolescent perceptions of risky behaviour using a mobile phone. This research may contribute to creating an awareness of risky and healthy adolescent uses of mobile phones. Anonymous sketches were collected from Grade 10 learners depicting their understanding of risky behaviour using the mobile phone. Thereafter, 12 learners agreed, through informed consent, to participate in semi-structured interviews. All participants considered the mobile phone an integral part of their social lives. Participants noted the benefits of using their mobile phones for their school work, such as searching the internet, taking photos of, and recordings of class work. Participants indicated that engaging in activities that allow for self-expression using the mobile phone, as well as knowing how much information to post, and using the mobile phone for what it was intended for (i.e. communication), was healthy behaviour. Participants indicated that sharing one’s address, phone number, and personal or intimate photographs and videos was risky behaviour. Participants did not extend their definitions of healthy behaviour to include moderate use of the mobile phone on a daily basis, and in fact reported spending an average of 4-5 hours daily on their mobile phones. Participants indicated numerous incidents of cyberbullying (although that term was not explicitly used), such as online racism, creating and distributing demeaning lists, and nude or offensive photographs of one another. Participants’ moral boundaries appeared to be negotiable, due to inconsistent opinions on what was considered acceptable or unacceptable behaviour on their mobile phones. Participants revealed a desire to be trusted with their mobile phones, yet indicated that they hid information from their parents. Rizikové chování mládeže v chudinské čtvrti Chibolya v Zambii / Youth risky behaviour in Chibolya compound in Zambia

The diploma thesis deals with risky behaviour of youth living in the Chibolya Slum, Zambia. The risky behaviour includes various forms of behaviour with negative impacts on health or social functioning of an individual and these may also threaten the surroundings of the young people. Examples of risky behaviour include use of tobacco, alcohol or other drugs and sexually risky behaviour. The tendencies to risky behaviour may appear at any time, but the most endangered group are the adolescents. The thesis is divided into theoretical part and practical part. The theoretical part specifies the basic terms of the thesis: risky behaviour, young people and the Republic of Zambia. The chapters of risky behaviour and Zambia are described in consideration of situation of young people. In the research part of the thesis, there was used the quantity research strategy, the method of questioning and the method of a questionnaire, distributed among the young people living in the Chibolya compound. The aim of the research included mapping of risky behaviour of youth in Chibolya compound, Zambia and establishing the factors affecting the occurrence of risky behaviour at young people in the location. In compliance with the aim of the thesis there were set the research questions: "Which forms of risky behaviour appear in the Chibolya slum most frequently?" and "Which factors affect the risky behaviour of young people?". The data was processed using the program Microsoft Office Excel 2007 and the program SPSS, release 16.0 and 23.0. The research showed that the most frequent forms of risky behaviour at respondents in the Chibolya compound is the addiction-related behaviour. It is most frequently related to abuse of illegal substances, specifically marijuana. Another proved form of addiction-related behaviour is the abuse of alcohol - 62% of respondents use it regularly. The research results also show the factors affecting risky behaviour of young people. These include biological features, specifically age and sex, peer pressure, easy accessibility of addictive drugs, family influences and unemployment. The research proved that unemployment is connected with a wide range of other risk factors and that is the reason for the unemployed to be the group facing maximal risks of risk behaviour.

College students and emerging adults have been found to be at risk for smoking cigarettes, drinking to excess, using illicit drugs, driving dangerously, and engaging in risky sexual and delinquent behaviour. Psychosocial correlates (Sensation Seeking, peer behaviour, parent behaviour, and peer and parent anti-substance use messages) from three domains of influence (personality, parent, and peer) were examined together to provide a greater context for the occurrence of such health-risk behaviours. The strongest predictor(s) of each behaviour were identified to better inform intervention practices. Three groups were compared— 1) those who never tried substances, 2) those who tried substances in the past, and 3) those who continue to use substances at present, in a population of emerging adults. Self-report data was gathered from 203 Collèges d'Enseignement Général Et Professionnel (CEGEP) students in the Montreal region. Measures included: Reckless Behaviour Questionnaire, Reckless Driving Measure, Health Behaviour Survey, Sensation Seeking Scale—Form V, and the Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale. Results revealed that peer behaviour was the most significant predictor of substance use in emerging adults, whereas parent behaviour was only a significant predictor of reckless driving. Sensation Seeking, specifically Disinhibition, was found to predict more global reckless behaviours, including illegal activities, such as stealing or using marijuana (p < .01). Neither peer nor parent anti-substance messages were significantly related to any of the health-risk behaviours measured in this study. It would appear that health-risk behaviours tend to be related to the same underlying factors but to varying degrees. Intervention implications are discussed.

In the theoretical section acquaints readers with important informations of bullying and substance of drama in education, which are the basis for a comprehensive understanding of this issue. The theoretical part is also the basis for creating bullying prevention project using the methods and strategies of drama education, presented and reflected in the practical part. The practical part is also the result of a questionnaire, which is focused on opinion surveys of teachers of primary schools to prevent bullying and the use of methods and techniques of drama in this issue.
