Towards a deeper understanding of current conversational frameworks through the design and development of a cognitive agent

Angara, Prashanti Priya 28 November 2018 (has links)
In this exciting era of cognitive computing, conversational agents have a promising utility and are the subject of this thesis. Conversational agents aim to offer an alternative to traditional methods for humans to engage with technology. This can mean to reduce human effort to complete a task using reasoning capabilities and by exploiting context, or allow voice interaction when traditional methods are not available or inconvenient. This thesis explores technologies that power conversational applications such as virtual assistants, chatbots and conversational agents to gain a deeper understanding of the frameworks used to build them. This thesis introduces Foodie, a conversational kitchen assistant built using IBM Watson technology. The aim of Foodie is to assist families in improving their eating habits through recipe recommendations taking into account personal contexts, such as allergies and dietary goals while helping reduce food waste and managing grocery budgets. This thesis discusses Foodie's architecture and derives a design methodology for building conversational agents. This thesis explores context-aware systems and their representation in conversational applications. Through Foodie, we characterize the contextual data and define its methods of interaction with the application. Foodie reasons using IBM Watson's conversational services to recognize users' intents and understand events related to the users and their context. This thesis discusses our experiences in building conversational agents with Watson, including features that may improve the development experience for creating rich conversations. / Graduate

Disserta??o (Mestrado) ? Programa de P?s-Gradua??o em Zootecnia, Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri, 2010. / ABSTRACT The experiment was conducted in a farm in Moura, Curvelo-MG, in the lamb area of Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri. 24 lambs of Santa In?s race were used under a diet ad libitum with two roughage (30 and 70 %), with or without fat source. They were slaughtered at about 37.3 ? 0.74 kg. The aim of this study was to determine nutrient intake, lambs performance, carcass traits, and the fatty acid profile of their loin intramuscular fat. Animals under 30% roughage diet showed higher alimentary efficience, feed conversion, weigh gain and confinement time (average: 18.9%; 5.38; 191g; 110 days; respectively). Animals under 30% roughage diet showed weigh and cold carcass (16.43 kg and 46.48%) superior to the ones under 70% roughage diet (15.27 kg and 43.17%). Besides diets did not affect most of the cuts, its effect on ham in emphasized by the averages 2.15 kg and 1.99 kg to 30 and 70% of roughage, respectively. 70% roughage diet to finishing lamb provided an increase of 19.5% on poliinsatured fatty acids (PUFAs). But there was a decrease of 49.6% of conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) on Long?ssimus, muscles. Using protected fatty, under calcium soap form, as fat source is more efficient than soy grain, providing higher PUFAs and CLA. Roughage on diet can upset proportions of fatty acid on lamb meat.

Analyse de l'émergence de Salmonella Senftenberg dans les productions avicoles / Analysis of salmonella Senftenberg emergence in poultry production

Boumart, Zineb 10 May 2012 (has links)
In poultry production, S. Senftenberg was associated to the hatchery, but has recently become morefrequent in poultry farms. The aim of our study is to explain the increased persistence of this serovar. Our findings suggest that the existence of persistent strains within the serovar Senftenberg could explain its recent emergence in poultry flocks. We identified strains showing different persistence phenotypes inchicken caeca. The persistent strains are able to induce an intestinal asymptomatic carrier state in chicks similar to S. Enteritidis. However, the in vivo analysis showed that S. Senftenberg strains, contrary to S.Enteritidis are unable to induce a strong systemic infection in infected mice and chickens which could be in part related to their low capacity to resist to immune cells. The comparison between persistent and nonpersistents trains showed no difference in their ability to grow in the caecal content and mucus. However, persistent strains are more able to colonize and persist in chickens and mice tissues, which could be a possible explanation for their increased persistence. This trait might thus present a human health risk as these bacteria could be present in animals before slaughter and during food processing.
