Com o objetivo de contribuir para a compreensão desta heterogeneidade, esta pesquisa visa caracterizar as explorações agropecuárias familiares e as políticas públicas pertinentes ao segmento da agricultura familiar, em duas Microrregiões do Noroeste Paulista: na Microrregião de Jales, em que predomina a agricultura familiar tradicional e na Microrregião de Andradina, cuja agricultura familiar é, prinicpalmente, originária de projetos de assentamentos e reassentamentos rurais. E por meio desta caracterização, realizar uma análise comparativa entre as duas Microrregiões, a fim de se verificar as diferenças e semelhanças presentes nas atividades agropecuárias, nas estratégias utilizadas pelos agricultores familiares e nas principais políticas públicas voltadas para agricultura familiar na região. A pesquisa realizada caracterizou-se pela combinação de uma abordagem quantitativa e qualitativa. Os instrumentos utilizados na coleta de dados consistiram, principalmente, em questionários e observação direta no trabalho de campo. A aplicação dos questionários foi realizada em visitas individualizadas aos estabelecimentos, cujos dados foram fornecidos por profissionais de assistência técnica e extensão rural que atuam nas Microrregiões, com base em levantamento inicial das principais explorações agropecuárias obtidas por meio dos dados do último Censo Agropecuário. As duas microrregiões ocupam áreas contíguas no noroeste do Estado de São Paulo, no entanto apresentam diferenças importantes, em parte construídas já durante o período de formação histórica, em termos de estrutura fundiária, forma como foi constituída as unidades familiares, tipo de explorações... Aiming to contribute to the understanding of this heterogeneity, this study aims to characterize the family agricultural holdings and public policies pertinent to the family farm in Northwest Microregions two Paulista, in the micro region of Jales, that are mostly traditional and family agriculture in Microregion Andradina, whose family farm is mainly originating from settlement and resettlement projects in rural areas. And through this characterization to establish a comparative analysis between the two Microregions, in order to verify the differences and similarities present in agricultural activities, the strategies used by farmers and the main public policies for family farming in the region. The survey was characterized by a combination of quantitative and qualitative approach. The instruments used in data collection consisted mainly of questionnaires and direct observation in field work. The questionnaires were conducted in individual visits to establishments whose data were provided by professional technical assistance and rural extension work in Microregions that, based on initial survey of the main agricultural holdings obtained through the data from the last Census of Agriculture. The two micro occupy contiguous areas in the northwest of São Paulo, but have important differences, in part already built during the period of historical development in terms of land ownership, as it was constituted family units, type of farm and strategies of family farmers, despite these differences, the comparison between the characteristics of producers surveyed pointed out several similarities to amazing coincidences.
