Depois disso, procuraremos evidenciar, ainda através dos documentos, que as relações estabelecidas entre os nativos e os brancos também foram pautadas pelos interesses, vontades e acordos propostos pelos indígenas, assim, somos levados a repensar a inclusão desses índios na história colonial brasileira não mais como vítimas apáticas e desprovidas de anseios, mas sim como sujeitos que produziram e viveram suas próprias histórias. Os documentos aos quais fazemos referência foram produzidos, majoritariamente, de meados do século XVI, mais especificamente a partir de 1549, o ano da chegada dos jesuítas na jovem colônia portuguesa, até 1615, quando o projeto francês que visava instalar uma colônia no litoral maranhense, a França Equinocial, foi desfeito / Abstract: Our main goal is to map the reports made by Portuguese and French explorers who devoted themselves to presenting and describing the native inhabitants of the Brazilian coast and their habits to the Europeans, aiming at analyzing the possible connections and differences among these reports concerning the descriptions of such people. Afterwards, we expose, still through these documents, the fact that the relationships established between the native and foreign people were also motivated by the interests, desires, and arguments presented by the indigenous Brazilians. Thus, we are led to reconsider the inclusion of these natives in the Brazilian colonial history no longer as listless and wishless victims, but now as the subject and creators of their own stories.
