<p> The purpose of this grant proposal was to develop and fund a wellness program incorporating yoga for at-risk youth in Los Angeles County, California. Operation Jump Start and United Dream factory were the agencies selected as the potential hosts of this project. </p><p> A thorough review of the literature indicated that youth are particularly vulnerable to issues that may negatively affect their healthy development and well-being (physical, psychological, social and environmental). Previous research also indicated that the best way to address the issues of adolescent health include collaborative approaches that address a variety of factors. Therefore, the grant writer designed a comprehensive wellness program that incorporates yoga, physical activity, mindfulness training and nutrition education; Mindful Active Teens Stretching, Practicing Awareness and Cultivating Ease or MAT SPACE. Private and public potential funding sources were researched and The Give Back Yoga Foundation was identified, as their goals are similar to the goals of MAT SPACE. </p><p> Actual submission and/or funding of the grant were not required for the successful completion of this project.</p>

<p> The purpose of this project was to partner with a host agency, locate a potential funding source, and write a grant to fund Better Parents in Control or Mejores Padres en Control. This will target Latino families who are at-risk of child maltreatment and to obtain information on preventions from having a future case within Department of Children and Family Services. The services will be delivered at Olive Crest in Los Angeles. The literature review was developed to support Latino families and their parenting styles, prevention services, and how to break the cycle amongst child maltreatment. The purpose of Better Parents in Control or in Spanish Mejores Padres en Control is to educate Latino families on cultural awareness, child abuse laws, and parenting techniques and be able to reduce child welfare service encounters. The actual funding or submission of this grant was not necessary for the successful of this project.</p>

<p> Child welfare workers (CWWs) experience high levels of stress related to the nature of their job that, if left unaddressed, can lead to burnout. Often stress and burnout are not addressed in the child welfare field. The purpose of this project was to create a mindfulness&ndash;based training program to help address and decrease stress and burnout for CWWs in Orange County, California, who work in Children and Family Services. The goal for this program is to educate CWWs and give them skills and abilities to use long term to recognize and reduce stress levels and burnout. The potential funding source for this grant is the Annenberg Foundation, whose purpose is to serve local communities by improving human health and wellness. The actual submission and/or funding of this grant was not required for the successful completion of this thesis.</p>

<p> The purpose of this project was to partner with a local community agency and locate funding sources for a grant to fund a teenage pregnancy prevention program. The goal of the program is to prevent, educate and reduce teenage pregnancy among foster care youth through comprehensive education. The goal will be accomplished through an evidence-based program that focuses on the strengths and struggles of the foster care youth. Foster care youth will benefit from having accurate sexual health information through peer advisors. This grant project seeks funding for the teenage prevention program for foster youth through The Office of Adolescent Health (OAH). The host agency is Human Services Association (HSA) a non-profit community based agency serving residents of Bell Gardens, California. Human Services Association will partner with the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family services to provide education for the foster youth in the prevention of teenage pregnancy. The submission and/or funding of this grant was not a requirement for the successful completion of this project.</p>

<p> The field of evolutionary psychology focuses on many human behaviors; mate selection and value being some of the issues under examination. Mate value is an important concept for explaining mating strategies. Self-perceived mate value is a component of mate value that explains how one views himself or herself as a potential mating partner. The utilization of theories including the triangular theory of love and social exchange aid in explaining the variables under review. The three variables under review include level of confidence in maintaining a relationship, level of commitment to the relationship, and length of time in the relationship, which impact one&rsquo;s level of self-perceived mate value. This study used one demographic measurement and three questionnaires: Relationship Contingent Self-Esteem Scale, Commitment to Relationship Scale, and the Mate Value Inventory. Further, this research distributed surveys to 114 students at a 2-year technical college in central Wisconsin to test a model through multiple regression. Using multiple regression, this study found that two of the variables (level of confidence in maintaining a relationship, the level of commitment to the relationship) aided in explaining self-perceived mate value, while time spent in a commitment relationship was not statistically significant in relation to self-perceived mate value.</p>

<p> The purpose of this thesis was to present a policy analysis of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) of 2000. Specifically, this analysis examined the impact the TVPA had on the victims of sex trafficking. This project utilized David Gil&rsquo;s (1992) analytic framework to evaluate the strengths and limitations of this policy. This analysis found that there have been some improvements in the prosecution of traffickers as a result of the passage of the TVPA. However, the analysis also suggests that there remain many issues and unintended consequences for victims of sex trafficking. For example, the requirement of the TVPA to involve the victim in the prosecution of their trafficker makes it difficult for some victims to come forward. Also, the return of victims of sex trafficking to their home country against their will continues to be a problem that the TVPA did not solve. The recommendations for social work practice, policy, and research are discussed.</p>

<p> Child abuse and neglect often leads to a child's removal, necessitating the intervention of the Juvenile Dependency Court. Parents are provided with services aimed at mitigating the risk factors leading to the removal and safely facilitating reunification. Therefore, the purpose of this project was to develop a grant to fund a Safety Organized Practice training program focusing on family engagement for service providers contracted with Ventura County Children and Family Services. The proposed training program would provide specialized training to child welfare professionals in order to increase the quality of interventions provided by child welfare professionals, enhance the quality of their visitations with families, and help promote improved reunification rates. The potential funding source for this grant was the W.K. Kellogg Foundation as this program coincides with the foundation's focal beneficiaries. The actual submission and/or funding of this grant was not required for the successful completion of the project.</p>
